C&L's Late Nite Music Club With Eddie Palmieri

This great pianist is best known as one of the pioneers of Latin jazz, due to his incorporation of many Latin styles into jazz compositions.

Like many talented Latin musicians of Caribbean descent living in New York during the '60s, Palmieri's eclectic style would be thrown under the umbrella term "salsa music," as a convenience for the record labels. Nonetheless, its a very complex sound, bringing together elements of different genres around the world. A lot of the time, you'll see African-influenced Latin rhythms like mozambique supporting jazz chord structures, combining to form a style all its own. Regardless of the label he was given, his talent for mixing and matching different sounds would make him a strong influence for his contemporaries and those who came after him from which to draw inspiration.
