Latest Fox Freakout: President Obama Is Giving Away The Internet
The pundits over at Faux "news" with their latest excuse accuse the President of the United States of having a "strategy of appeasement and pandering.”
Here's the latest excuse for the talking heads over at Faux "news" to hyperventilate and call the President of the United States names ad nauseum. It seems the pundits are up in arms over there because he's decided to do something that's been in the works since 1998, but you won't hear any mention of that in segments like the one above.
From Fox's blog: Brad Blakeman: Ceding Control of Internet ‘Part of President’s Strategy of Appeasement & Pandering’:
The U.S. government plans to open up the body that manages Internet names and addresses to the global Internet community.
This would mean giving up control of a system developed in the U.S.
Brad Blakeman, former deputy assistant to President George W. Bush, explained the plan to Harris Faulkner on “Fox Report.” He said the Department of Commerce currently keeps track of and doles out all domains and IP addresses. Now, the Obama administration wants to cede that authority to an international body.
“I think it’s part of the president’s strategy of appeasement and pandering,” Blakeman said.
According to Blakeman, the move could raise access fees for domains and IP addresses.
“We should control it. We made it, we paid for it, it’s ours,” he said.
Here's more on their latest fake "scandal" from our friends over at Media Matters: Fox News Falsely Claims Obama Is Giving The Internet Away:
Fox News falsely claimed that a plan in place since 1998 to govern control of Internet domain names means President Obama is giving away the Internet.
U.S. Announces Intent To Transition Internet Domain Name Functions
In a March 14 press release, the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA), an Executive Branch agency that advises the President on telecommunications and information policy issues, announced the administration's plan to transition internet domain name functions:
To support and enhance the multistakeholder model of Internet policymaking and governance, the U.S. Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) today announces its intent to transition key Internet domain name functions to the global multistakeholder community.

From the inception of ICANN, the U.S. Government and Internet stakeholders envisioned that the U.S. role in the IANA functions would be temporary. The Commerce Department's June 10, 1998 Statement of Policy stated that the U.S. Government "is committed to a transition that will allow the private sector to take leadership for DNS management." They've got a lot more examples of the yappers on Fox freaking out over this issue. I guess they decided they needed something new to yell and scream about other than Benghazi and the IRS. They also have more info on how this has been in the works for a very long time now.
