C&L's Late Nite Music Club With Van Der Graaf Generator

This one's off of Van der Graaf's Generator's first album, which would set the tone for their sound throughout their career.

Named for an electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate very high amounts of potential on a metal globe on top of a stand, the band is led by Peter Hammill, who is known for his abstract lyrics and forward-thinking compositional style. Hammill has also been known for being highly prolific, having released 35 studio albums since 1971 and 12 with VDGG. Considering the complexity and detail that is present in his work, that is basically round-the-clock touring and recording. In much of their works, VDGG will employ strange timbres from synths, guitars, and a variety of other instruments to compliment Hammill's unique vocal style. Along with his recognizable already vocal tone, Hammill will often sing with different accents ranging from Afrikaner to Cockney in styles that go from smooth and peaceful to borderline screaming. Throw his huge amount of knowledge about literature and history in along with that as lyrics and you've got some pretty interesting music on your hands.

Know any especially prolific artists?
