House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi placed at least some of the blame for the CIA's "interrogation methods" squarely on former Vice President Dick Cheney during an interview with CNN's Candy Crowley this Sunday: Pelosi On CIA Interrogation: 'Cheney Set A Tone' And 'He's Proud Of It':
"I mean I do believe that during the Bush-Cheney administration, that Vice President Cheney set a tone and an attitude for the CIA. Many people in the CIA are so patriotic, they -- they protect our country in a way to avoid conflict and -- and, -- violence, et cetera," she said on CNN's "State of the Union" when host Candy Crowley asked about blame for the CIA's "misrepresentation" about its enhanced interrogation techniques.
"I think he's proud of it," Pelosi added when Crowley asked if there could be proof that Cheney did give the CIA orders on interrogation.
Maybe if Rep. Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats hadn't decided that putting the war crimes of the Bush administration behind us instead of prosecuting them was the way to go, Cheney wouldn't be quite so "proud" of their torture program.
You've got to love the way Crowley framed the question as well, pretending there is a question on whether the torture occurred or not, "depending on who is describing it." Sorry Candy, but calling waterboarding "enhanced interrogation" doesn't mean it's no longer torture.
