I can relate to this story because it happened to someone who is a lot like me. Plus, it happened literally down the street, in my hometown of Las Vegas. This is something you'd expect perhaps near the L.V. Strip, but this was in Summerlin, a place many of us call home. Ammosexuals and road rage are a deadly combination.

It's very stressful to teach your teenager how to drive, anyone who's done it can attest to this fact. It is far more terrifying if you know you could be killed if another driver loses their patience with you and targets you, armed and dangerous. A woman will likely lose her life because there was a gun in someone's car who targeted her after she gave a driving lesson to her daughter.

The shooting occurred just after 11:20 p.m. Thursday near Alta and Cimarron, according to Metro Lt. Eric Lloyd. Meyers was giving her teenage daughter a driving lesson in a parking lot at a nearby high school. The woman took over driving to get back home.

At some point, they got into an altercation with a driver of another vehicle. She started driving home slowly and was being followed. She allowed the vehicle to pass, but the car slammed its brakes. Meyers went around the vehicle and headed home.

Her daughter went into the residence before the shooting occurred. Robert Meyers said his son came out with a shotgun and fired back at the suspect vehicle, which had three occupants.

In wake of proposed Assembly Bill AB2, where Republican Nevada lawmakers are pushing to allow guns in cars on school property, this story really drives home the scary reality that guns and cars do not go well together. If there hadn't been a gun, the end result could have been someone flipping off another driver, not shooting them in the head.

I have driven on that street more times than I can remember. The speed limit is very low, and when I abide by the 25 mph limit, I am tailgated by angry drivers who are in a hurry. This poses a new quandary. Should I risk getting a ticket and drive faster (cops are always on this street), or do I risk getting shot instead? Adding lethal weapons to a society with horrible anger management issues can create avoidable and tragic situations.
