2nd Amendment Rally: Our Guns Today, Our Bible Next?

The ammosexuals are out in full force to protect their guns, but who is coming for them?

The right to keep and bear arms is never under siege, yet many Americans don't buy it. The NRA-ILA reports:

Tuesday, May 12, on the Capitol steps in Harrisburg, Second Amendment supporters, state lawmakers and pro-gun organizations will be holding the annual Second Amendment action day at 10 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Sheriff Richard Mack, former sheriff of Graham County, Arizona.

Remember Sheriff Mack? Richard Mack was the anti-Obamacare advocate who suddenly needed help paying his medical bills.

Former Arizona county sheriff Richard Mack, a fierce opponent of Obamacare and a leader in the "constitutional sheriff" movement, is struggling to pay his medical bills after he and his wife each faced serious illnesses...But he can still thank the ACA for being able to buy insurance. Without it, he and his wife would have pre-existing conditions that wouldn't be covered by any pre-ACA policy. And annual limits. And lifetime limits.

This Second Amendment rally features Mack as their keynote speaker, because by the high standards of rural Pennsylvania, he's a real patriot. Mack's courageous patriotism was demonstrated a year ago at the Bundy Ranch standoff in Bunkerville, Nevada. He vowed to put women on the frontline if federal agents started shooting during the ridiculous standoff. Bundy has yet to pay his $1.1 million in grazing fees to the federal government, more than one year later.

Sheriff Mack personifies the right-wing mindset that dominates rural America: people who are dependent on the government but unwilling to admit it; combined with a love of firearms, Jesus and an irrational mistrust of science. I suppose Sheriff Mack has to make a living somehow and these are just the people who want to hear his opinions.

The signs displayed at the rally show frightening levels of hysteria and paranoia over an imagined war on their religious manifesto and their right to bear arms.

More guns is always the answer

These fervent ammosexuals are the same people who believe that when then Senator Obama proclaimed that many Americans cling to their guns and Bibles, he set out to take away their guns and religious freedom. Perhaps because Senator Obama made that comment about rural Pennsylvania during the 2008 campaign, they take it a little too literally.

Since 2006, this gathering has been heralded as an annual event that celebrates their belief that "gun control has no place in our Commonwealth." They claim that the gathering grows every year. It's hard to differentiate this gathering from any Tea Party-type protest where right-wingers show their disdain for paying taxes (like Cliven Bundy) and our first Black President.

To date, not one single law has been passed to afford this paranoid mindset any legitimacy. The NRA has capitalized on this imagined threat and has been very successful at blocking most laws seeking to increase government control over gun sales.

The NRA continues to fear-monger gun enthusiasts despite their immense success. Each year, the pro-gun death lobby produces increasingly more paranoid advertisements that create the fervency for rallies like the one in Harrisburg today. So grab your "Sandy Hook was a hoax" signs, head on out to Pennsyltucky Harrisburg, and stand up for free-dumb. If you're lucky, you can win an AR-15.
