Maher Slams Rand Paul For Caving To The Crazies In The Republican Base

There was a time when Rand Paul had what looked like the full support of Real Time host Bill Maher, but now thanks to Paul's flip flopping and pandering in order to appease the Republican base, that time has long passed.

There was a time when Rand Paul had what looked like the full support of Real Time host Bill Maher, which was a kind of a "What the hell?" moment for a lot of us on the left. But now, thanks to Paul's flip flopping and pandering in order to appease the Republican base, that time has long passed.

Color those of us who have been more cynical about Rand Paul for a very long time now not surprised. Thanks to Paul flip flopping on everything from military spending, gay marriage, pandering to Evangelicals and giving speeches in front of aircraft carriers, Maher has finally had a belly full and he let Paul have it during his New Rules segment this Friday night.

Here's how Maher summed up the pandering after going through a list of Paul's flip flops.

MAHER: It's all just proof that to be competitive Republican candidates must say to their base, to paraphrase Bill Clinton, "I feel your crazy."

And that's no matter how crazy it is.

Maher went onto slam the GOP for their latest conspiracy theory, Jade Helm 15, and opined over the current political environment when it comes to dealing with these nuts.

MAHER: But here's the thing. In today's Republican party, you can't call out nutty people for being nutty because they're not a small group. In the Republican party, crazy is a constituency. So what happens is the governor of Texas indulges them and says he will be ordering the Texas State Guard to keep an eye on the United States military... you know, our former allies?

And Rand Paul, former sane person says Jade Helm 15, yeah, I'm going to look into that too. Look into what??!!

Whether Obama's planning to invade Texas?

He wasn't done with them yet. Just go watch the rest for his last shot at the crazies in the Lone Star state.
