Pot Meet Kettle: Fiorina Accuses Ted Cruz Of Saying 'Whatever' Just To Get Elected
Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina argued on Sunday that GOP voters should select her over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) because he would say "whatever" to get elected.
Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina argued on Sunday that GOP voters should select her over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) because he would say "whatever" to get elected.
Speaking to CNN's Dana Bash, Fiorina defended her criticism of Cruz for shutting down the government in 2013 over President Barack Obama's health care reform law.
"Ted Cruz is just like any other politician," Fiorina told Bash. "He says one thing in Manhattan, he says another thing in Iowa."
"He says whatever he needs to say to get elected, and then he's going to do as he pleases," she insisted. "I think the American people are tired of the political class that promises much and delivers much of the same."
Over the course of her presidential campaign, Fiorina has also repeatedly been accused of lying and pandering to gain an advantage. In fact, only 27 percent of Fiorina's statements examined by Politifact were found to be true or mostly true.
CNN host Dana Bash noted on Sunday that Fiorina had even thrown her alma mater, Stanford University, under the bus so she could tell Iowa voters that she was rooting for the Hawkeyes in the Rose Bowl.
"For heaven's sake. Can't a girl ever have a little bit of fun?" Fiorina shot back. "That was a tongue in cheek tweet which the people of Iowa understand, because I was asked over and over again in Iowa, having attended a Hawkeye tailgate, I was asked, they knew that my heart was torn."
"Let's just say if the biggest mistake I make is a tongue in cheek Tweet about a Rose Bowl, the American people will sleep safely when I am President of the United States," she added. "It was tongue in cheek, for heaven's sake. A girl needs to have a little fun sometimes. I guess it was a slow news day in the media."
