'Pro-white' Rally Forces Georgia High School Prom To Move For Safety Of Students

A Georgia high school said this week that it will move its April 23 prom from Stone Mountain Park to avoid a "pro-white" rally that was scheduled for the same day.

A Georgia high school said this week that it will move its April 23 prom from Stone Mountain Park to avoid a "pro-white" rally that was scheduled for the same day.

Earlier this month, Peachtree Ridge High School notified parents that a so-called Confederate Heritage group had scheduled a rally at Stone Mountain -- which is considered to be the birthplace of the modern Ku Klux Klan -- on the same day as the school's prom.

Although the school was given assurances that the self-proclaimed "pro-white" group would end its rally two hours before the prom was set to begin, the school said this week that parents expressed concern for the safety of their children.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Thursday that the decision had been made to move the prom to Westin Buckhead Atlanta.

Several groups have said that they were planning to protest the pro-white rally.
