Wins Last Night For Justice; Black Lives Matter

Two prosecutors embroiled in police shooting cases lose re-elections.

The headline should read "a night when citizens stood up." It's also seen as a major win for Black Lives Matter, as former Cuyahoga County assistant prosecutor Michael O’Malley won the Democratic nomination for County Prosecutor in the Cleveland area, and Kim Foxx won the Democratic primary for Cook County state's attorney Tuesday night,

Prosecutors in the Tamir Rice and Laquan McDonald shootings, both of whom were judged friendlier to police shooters than to citizens, lost their re-election bids last night. Buzzfeed:

Cuyahoga County prosecutor Timothy McGinty, who was criticized for his office’s handling of the Tamir Rice shooting and not recommending charges against the officers involved, lost his seat during Tuesday’s primaries....

Likewise, Chicago prosecutor Anita Alvarez, who was under pressure after city officials waited 400 days to release video of a police officer fatally shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, was also defeated on Tuesday.

Foxx faces Republican candidate Christopher Pfannkuche in the November general election. O'Malley does not have Republican opposition.

Prosecutors nationwide should pay attention. Siding with the cops if they shoot unarmed citizens will lose you your job.
