Want To Feel Old? The Last VCR Is Being Made This Month

Last VCR ever to be made this month. Get your Top Gun and Princess Bride VHS tapes out of the closet.

Are you ready to feel old? Yeah, me neither. But it is happening.

It was just announced that the last VHS player will be made this month! 40 years after hitting the market, Japanese company Funai Electric ha decided to cease production Arstechnica reports. So dust off your old Princess Bride, Top Gun and Goodfellas DVD's and plan a bingewatching day.

Funai states that "declining sales" was the problem. Honestly, do studios even produce movie on VHS anymore? I haven't seen one for sale in at least 10 years, outside of yard sales and Goodwill bargain bins.

At the height of production, Finai reports that they sold as many as 15 million VCRs per year, which is astronomical. Even more shocking - they report that just last year they sold 750,000 units. Who the heck was buying VCR's in 2015?

You want to feel even older? Here are other more things that kids don't use or really know about (or care about!):

8mm handheld cameras
Betamax
Floppy disks
Blockbuster Video
Tower Records
Mix tapes
Dial up internet
The Encyclopedia
Atari
Answering machines
Landline phones

Excuse me while I go cry into my metamucil and get some bengay on my aching joints.
