The Rats Takes The Bait...and Run With It

It took what, less than 48 hours for the first major leak of the material the FBI turned over to Congress? That must be a record.

And the bait was taken. Not only taken, but gleefully tossed about, like a rat-sized balloon.

Less than 48 hours after the FBI turned over the Clinton investigation material to Congress, the first major leak found its way to the press. Supposedly, it was Colin Powell who recommended that Clinton use a private email system, according to the unnamed sources (otherwise known as Congressional members with access to the FBI material that they promised, cross their little hearts, that they wouldn't release to the media).

Frankly, I couldn't care less whose idea it was for Clinton to use private email, because, as has been demonstrated in the last few years, it wasn't a good idea. That the Press keeps beating how much this wasn't a good idea is more a comment on the quality of the Press this election, than something that's actually news.

What I care more about is that FBI Director Comey played directly into the GOP hands in his effort to be the Amazing Comey, World's Best Civil Servant.

Comey's interest is demonstrating to one and all, as often as he can, how he's above the political fray in his search for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. But his actions have unnecessary and potentially dangerous consequences on a Presidential election. He's also undermined the FBI's own investigative capabilities, by setting a precedent that Congress can access investigative materials, including interview notes, for a closed FBI investigation.

What made Comey's action worse was that he responded to a request that was purely political in nature...and he knew it. Oh, and by the way, Comey? Good luck with getting people to voluntarily submit to interviews in the future.

Now, Congressional members want the FBI to remove the redactions and other restrictions it has placed on the documents. If Comey bows to this demand, he should be fired on the spot.

As it is, when Clinton wins the Presidency, she should kick his can to the curb. I adore President Obama, but Comey was not a good choice for FBI Director. We saw that with his absurd demand that Apple provide a hack into iPhones, as well as his unhappiness over viral videos of the police shootings that have rocked this country. We're seeing it again with his actions related to the Clinton emails.
