Stephen Colbert: The Word Of The Year 'Post-Truth' Is A Rip-Off Of 'Truthiness'

Colbert confesses all: "It is funny because it's true."

I gotta agree with Stephen Colbert. The Oxford "Word of the Year" for 2016, Post-Truth, is pretty lame, and not just because it has a hyphen. (I also take points off because the term has been embraced by CNN panelists, but I digress.)

Post-Truth is a surrender for the media and Trump voters. "Truthiness" looked at the Bush Administration with a wink, that it was just them doing the wishing for what was true and pretending facts didn't matter. All of US knew better.

"Post-Truth" convicts all of those who enabled and supported Donald Trump. Those who obviously don't care what is true or not anymore, so long as Trump and his paid surrogates lie "good" lies, ones that make certain voters/consumers feel good, so for-profit media can keep on selling them reverse mortgages and penis pills, that's what matters.

Comedy is tragedy plus time. Stephen Colbert's mime of what it feels like to lose is for all of us. We're out of time for laughing about Trump. Time to fight.

And don't forget Stephen Colbert's own riff on "Trumpiness" from July.
