Chris Cuomo, Darryl Issa Fight Over Trump's 'Illegals' Lie

A shouting match over "millions" of "illegals" voting.

It's clear that the entire Republican establishment will now circle the wagons anytime Donald Trump tweets something, stupid, false, or blatantly dishonest.

This morning on CNN's Good Day, it was Congressman Darrell Issa's turn. It's not a "lie" when a Republican President-elect says 'millions of illegals' voted against him. . Even if it has already been proven false.

DARRELL ISSA: We do have huge problems in getting elections accurate and quickly and getting them believed by the American people,

CHRIS CUOMO, CNN: So you believe that millions of people voted illegally? You believe that?

ISSA: I'm going to hold you to your facts. You said dozens or handfuls. We all know out of 320 million Americans, it wasn't dozens or handfuls.

CUOMO: We know that there have been many studies done, Congressman, and that's an exaggeration, what I just said. They came up with smaller numbers than that, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt in this analysis.

ISSA: Chris, I love you, but you're in fact talking about dozens and saying, out of 320 million Americans, it is a lot more than dozens. In my own state, in my own election, I had a pair of ballots where obviously a spouse voted for their dead husband. The fact is, illegal voting goes on. The question really is, are we going to restore confidence?

CUOMO: But then why would you say millions of people voted illegally?

ISSA: We need to get a system that the American people believe in. ....We need to modernize the system. We need to make it accurate and believed by the American people. And that's all Donald Trump is getting America thinking about. And I think that's a good thing.

CUOMO: I will send you several studies on this because I will return the love that you have for me by giving you the information. Because if we want accuracy in the system, we should start with how we describe that system as well.

Yeah that's a real nice effort there, Chris Cuomo. It's obvious that the Republican establishment is repeating Donald Trump's dishonest description of the voting system precisely so that they can push for "modernizing" elections. We have seen how that looks on the state level -- Voter ID, limited voting hours, targeted restrictions for people of color, students, and other traditionally Democratic voters.

This whole "millions of illegals" lie from Trump is being used as a propaganda tool to push national voter legislation to ensure a permanent Republican majority, and also to delegitimize the entire California result. As a California Congressman, Darrell Issa is a traitor to his state. But as a Republican, he's just being a good soldier.
