Oh Noes! Jim VandeHei Says Trump Debt Ceiling Deal Will Upset His Voters
Someone's not paying attention.
This was pretty amusing. Jim VandeHei, Axios CEO and founder of Politico, seems to have missed the prime directive for Republicans -- "It's okay if you're a Republican."
He tries to explain to Joe Scarborough how Trump's debt-ceiling deal with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi is actually a mistake.
"Based on everything I've seen, that Democrats are going to work with the guy they consider Kryptonite, he could not be more radioactive with Democrats, the only way it would work is if he really moved radically to the far left, which I don't think he's prepared to do," VandeHei said, clutching his pearls.
He insisted that when you have all party rule, "to me you're still in a much better position figuring you run the whole stinking government and you were put there with a mandate to change government..."
Scarborough is having none of it. He points out that Republicans don't actually have control of their own caucuses, Mitch McConnell can't deliver votes, Paul Ryan is held hostage by the Freedumb Caucus, and voters want to see government working again.
"Everybody's a free agent there," he said.
He says Americans will be glad that the deal got done. He's right.
