After a ton of self-released and micro-label cassettes, singles and CD-R's, Omaha's David Nance's first "real" album, More Than Enough, dropped on people's ears last year. It's was quite a great listen too. Classic rock in the sense that he uses the standard instruments and approach to write a really good song but also a bit twisted and steeped in the stranger fringes of "rock music." Something like Tom Petty befriends Pere Ubu or the Swell Maps take the place of the E Street band to back up Bruce Springsteen are a couple of the impressions me and a few friends had when first hearing him.

His latest record, Negative Boogie, sticks with the same sort of thing. The main difference is that instead of a recording it all on some rickety 4-track Tascam cassette tape machine like what he's done in the past, him and his band went into a big time recording studio to lay it all down. It makes the sound even bolder than before.
