C&L's Sat Nite Chiller Theater: The Chase (1946)
This one's a gem...
This little gem comes with a terrific pedigree. Based the 1944 novel, The Black Path of Fear, by the inimitable Cornell Woolrich. Directed in the best noir tradition by Arthur Ripley. Starring Robert Cummings and Michele Morgan, with standout performances by Steve Cochran as the psycho gangster and Peter Lorre as his henchman.
The Film Noir: An Encyclopedic Reference to the American Style entry for "The Chase" says: "Phantom Lady excepted, The Chase is the best cinematic equivalent of the dark, oppressive atmosphere that characterizes most of Cornell Woolrich's best fiction."
Enjoy!
