FL GOPers Seek To Change Law To Pave Way For DeSantis 2024 Run
This isn't going to go down well with the big guy.
Even though he hasn't thrown his hat in the 2024 presidential ring, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is a potential contender to face off with Former President Donald Trump. Trump, of course, recently announced his run, probably thinking it would keep him from being indicted (It won't). Trump has already taken public shots at the Florida Republican, but it's about to get worse.
Florida's top Republican leaders say they are willing to change a law in Florida to pave the way for DeSantis to run for President in 2024.
Via Politico:
Both House Speaker Paul Renner (R-Palm Coast) and Senate President Kathleen Passidomo (R-Naples), both of whom were sworn into their new posts on Tuesday, agreed it would be a "good idea" to make it clear that DeSantis would not have to resign if he wound up becoming the GOP nominee.
DeSantis was reelected to a second four-year term earlier this month after he defeated his Democratic rival by roughly 20 points.
"If an individual who is Florida governor is running for president, I think he should be allowed to do it," Passidomo told reporters. "I really do. That's a big honor and a privilege, so it is a good idea."
Be prepared for a massive Trumper tantrum and possibly some hamberders being thrown against the walls of Mar-a-Lago. It doesn't look like Desantis will have to resign as Governor if he runs for President in 2024. How I'm reading this news: DeSantis is going to run in 2024, and he's already made up his mind.
When asked to choose between Trump or DeSantis, a smiling Passidomo said, “What?” Asked a second time, “Trump or DeSantis,” she again said, “what?” and then returned to her office.
Yeah, he's running, and he has support from Republicans.
