To answer this guy's question, it began with Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, and the tea party. Then Trump permitted his supporters to be the very worst in society.

I used to facilitate anger management groups. If he walked in, I'd throw my arms in the air and walk out. You might think it's unfair to judge Republican voters by this one man's meltdown, but venture over to Trump's social site, Truth Social, and you'll feel like you need a shower within the first ten minutes.

There are a lot of screamy rage-y people over there. And they were mad before Trump was elected, angry after he was elected, and pissed off after he lost the election.
