In the interest of full disclosure, I have known Janet Protosiewicz on both a professional and personal level for more than 25 years.

On Tuesday, Wisconsin had their spring primary election. Easily, the biggest race was the one for an open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. At the risk of sounding cliche or hyperbolic, it is easily the biggest race the state has seen in years and could radically change the state's direction. This election will determine if the Supreme Court will have a left-leaning majority or a radically right wing majority.

This election will have a major impact on cases that could and probably would come before the Supreme Court in upcoming years, such as abortion rights, gerrymandering issues, workers rights, voters rights and so much more.

If Tuesday is any indication of the future, Wisconsin, and the country in whole, could have a very bright future.

There were four candidates going into the primary. On the progressive side, there was Milwaukee Circuit Court Janet Protosiewicz and Dane County Circuit Court Judge Everett Mitchell. On the conservative side, there was former Justice Dan Kelly and Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Dorow.

The undeniable winner of the primary was Protosiewicz, who is running a juggernaut of a campaign. During the campaign, she raised more money than the other three candidates combined. She dominated in the polling booth, winning more votes than the two conservative candidates combined. She even outpolled Dan Kelly, the runner up in the primary, in the extremely red Waukesha County, once former Republican stronghold.

And the GOP are terrified of her.

While it is illegal for a judicial candidate to state how they would vote on a specific case that may appear before them, they can express what their values are. And Protosiewicz has been doing so with great conviction and confidence. She has said that she believes women have a right to determine their own health care. She said that she believes in the right of collective bargaining. She has said that she believes in equality and fairness. She has said that the gerrymandering is out of control and does not allow the voters' voices to be heard. And these values are shared by many Wisconsinites as the poll numbers reflect.
