The U.S. pharmaceutical company Viatris, which manufactures Viagra, had informed the Russian government last year that it would stop selling the drug in tablet form.

On Wednesday, Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry told the Interfax newswire that while the medication used in Viagra, sildenafil, is not currently produced in Russia, Russian companies have the “technological possibility” to manufacture it, and that 36 companies had been issued registration certificates to do so.

And for whatever reasons, demand for erectile dysfunction medication is way up in Russia.

According to a study by the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies, from July to September 2022, Russians purchased 88% more packages of drugs to increase potency (2.7 million) compared to the same period last year. During these three months, Russians spent 2.1 billion rubles on funds for erectile dysfunction. Compared to last year, their costs increased by 75%. The experts found that, on average, 558 packages of medicines to increase potency was used per 10,000 adult men living in Russia.

Luckily, Stephen Colbert helps solve this vexing problem.

And of course.
