Thinly Veiled Blue Line
A cartoon for February 5, 2023
From Karoli:
Good morning from beautiful downtown Crooklyn*, where another Sunday cartoon is here to greet you in lieu of the old bobblehead threads. If you're interested in who is bloviating today, the lineup is here. If you'd just rather that we watched so you don't have to, then you're in the right place.
Tuesday, we get Biden's State of the Union address, following on a monster jobs report and news that we are not, in fact, heading for a dreadful recession, no matter how much the financial pundits want one. It's an employee's market right now, and one where jobs are being created in places that haven't seen jobs for years, thanks to the infrastructure bill and Inflation Reduction Act. All in all, Dems and President Biden have done a pretty good job.
So of course, that means Republicans need a real sad sack to respond, and who better than a culture warrior and the new Governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders? Expect to hear a lot of whining about critical race theory and gas stoves. It should be unworthy of anyone's time, if she lives up to her previous standards.
Kevin McCarthy said he's not going after the social safety net, but Republicans lie a lot so don't believe a word he says. I do think President Biden had a word with him the other day about how, if he wants to look like a winner, he should ditch the MAGAs and work with Democrats. We shall see.
The Chinese Spy Balloon is in the ocean, all's right with the world.
What's giving you joy this morning?
