Big Wins In Two PA Special Elections, Cementing Dem Majority

The two Democratic winners cruised to an easy victory, outperforming Kamala Harris's 2024 lead.

The wins aren't surprising, the victory margins are. Always a good sign to turn out PA Democratic voters in two special elections.

Jennifer Mazzocco cruised to victory in the special election to represent a number of South Hills suburbs in the state House this year.

The Associated Press called the race for Mazzocco shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, with 45 percent of votes counted.

Democrat Ana Tiburcio also locked up a special election for Pennsylvania's 22nd state House District, a victory that would secure her party's slim majority in the state House of Representatives for the rest of the year.

Looks like we're gonna have some pretty chonky overperformances in PA tonight—and unlike in Maine, we can calculate the presidential results by district with great confidence. Got 'em here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Final numbers appear to be in in PA #HD42, and we're looking at a +35 Dem overperformance.

In other news, Maine Democrats also held on to a pivotal House seat today in a special election. Scott Harriman will join the legislature. They will also hang on to a narrow majority.

Democrats probably underperformed in the Maine special election, which they won by 6% in a district that @the-downballot.com estimates (though Maine math can be iffy) Harris won by 13%.
