Today, February 5, marks the sixth anniversary of Colin Powell's speech to the United Nations in favor of a pre-emptive attack on Iraq. No other testimony had such impact; the mainstream media relied on Powell's reputation and integrity, and, well, you know how it has turned out.
Some might argue that with a new administration inheriting this war we should put this behind us. Powell certainly argues that point:
And so, my concern was not my past or what happened in Iraq, but where we're going in the future. My sole concern was where are we going after January 20 of 2009, not what happened in 2003.
What happened in 2003, and Powell's essential part in that, is why we are still in Iraq in 2009.
