Televangelist Pat Robertson on Tuesday warned parents of gay and lesbian children that there was a good chance that school officials may have "molested" their kids to recruit them to be homosexuals.

Responding to a viewer who asked what to do about a 16-year-old gay son, Robertson first recommended that the parent "pray for him."

"Is there really a biological thing going on?" the TV preacher opined. "Or has he been influenced, has a coach molested him?"

"These kids are in a formative state," he continued. "And sure, they may have some attractions to people of the same sex. I mean, they don't know what they're doing, they're teenagers. So, they go for the opposite sex. Some are attracted to one another. But there are a lot of things that happen."

In conclusion, Robertson encouraged the parent not to "write him off" and to "be understanding."
