Vice President Joe Biden made his prime time debut Thursday night with a cameo appearance on the popular NBC sitcom "Parks and Recreation."

Biden's scene is at the opening of the show as Leslie, the character played by Amy Poehler, is brought to visit his ceremonial office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building by her fiance, Ben, played by Adam Scott.

Highlights include Poehler's character offering to take on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's job, calling the vice president "very handsome" and telling a Secret Service agent to protect Biden because he's "precious cargo."

A partial transcript:

"You must be Leslie Knope," Biden says. "Welcome."

"You're...my name just came out of your mouth," Poehler's character says breathlessly.

"Well, yeah, it did," says Biden.

Poehler's character stammers "This isn't happening. This isn't real."

"No, it's happening, and I'm delighted to have you here. On behalf of the president and myself, I wanted to..." Biden continues, before being cut off again.

"Oh, Mr. Vice President, I am deeply flattered, but there's no way that I could take over Madam Secretary Clinton's position," Poehler's immodest character says.

"I'm confident you could do that job or any other," Biden responds.

"OK, I will," she says.

"Well, the reason you're here is, I'm told, you've done such a great job in your town and in the state of Indiana, and I just want to say congratulations for your public service."

"I just want to say thank you," Poehler's character says, patting Biden's face as the camera pans to show some of the vice president's real-life advisers.

"You're very welcome, you're very welcome. Hey, you're very welcome," he responds and she grips onto his arms.

"You're very handsome, by the way," she adds.

"You're very nice," Biden responds as Scott's character begins leading Poehler out of the room.

"Thank you very much. We'll see you tomorrow," she says.

"Oh, well, you will?" Biden asks with a shrug toward press secretary Kendra Barkoff, one of the Biden staffers who makes a cameo.

"Thank you, Mr. Vice President," Poehler's character says as she walks out before turning to a Secret Service agent and sternly adds: "Don't let anything happen to him, you understand me? He is precious cargo."
