Days after the Japanese accepted the Allied surrender terms, the process of bringing the parties together to hammer out the details began. There was the matter of dismantling Japan's war machine, restructuring Japan's government, making sure everyone was on the same page.

So it was big news when the first planeload of Japanese envoys touched down on Ia Shima Island on their way to Manila and a waiting General MacArthur.
