Libya and the brutal regime of Muammar Gaddafi are now coming under the gaze of the rest of the world as waves of peaceful protests are met with hostile repression. Only this time it's different and the protests are growing in speed and intensity.

How it ends at this point is anyone's guess. But for the moment it's moving fast and gaining ground. Here is a re-cap of news via the BBC from both their African Service and the World Service from the morning of February 21st to this afternoon (as of 2:00 pm PST), February 23rd.

It's interesting that no one has brought into question Gaddafi's sanity - that his strange and erratic behavior are almost his trademarks. But his sheer hysteria must beg a few raised eyebrows here and there.
