Newstalgia Backstage Weekend - Cream Live In Detroit - 1967

Newstalgia Backstage Weekend with Cream, live at The Grande Ballroom in Detroit on October 15, 1967.

Cream - wore the mantle of Supergroup rather well.

Since we're knee-deep in Fundraising (hint-hint!) - I thought I would run something special this weekend which you may or may not have heard before. I'm sure it's been all over the place several times and Cream mavens will no doubt know this concert backwards and forwards.

But if you don't and are rather new to the 60's phenomenon of Cream, here is a rather good sounding recording of a concert they did in Detroit on October 15, 1967. It's a long one so it's spread out over two players (Part One is up top and Part Two is below the Donate button). The sound is, for the most part quite good, but with the odd distortion and drop out. Let's face it, technology at the time was primitive at best (I know, my first gig mixing a concert was in 1966 and it was a miracle any sound came out at all) not to mention the tape itself being 44 years old.

So with those caveats in mind, it's still a memorable concert. A little self-indulgent in places, as was the custom during those somewhat pioneering days (navel-gazing was a recent art), but it's enough to give you an idea of what all the fuss was about.

Here's the rundown of what's being played:
1.Tales of Brave Ulysses
2. N.S.U.
3. Sitting On Top Of The World
4. Sweet Wine
5. Rollin' And Tumblin'
6. Spoonful
7.Steppin' Out
8. Traintime
9. Toad
10. I'm So Glad

Enjoy. Enjoy the holiday and help out with some money - we need it!
