Nights At The Roundtable - Big Country - 1983

Nights at The Roundtable with Big Country and a track off The Crossing, their debut album from 1983 with "Fields Of Fire".

Big Country - synonymous with the 80's.

Big Country were when they first appeared in late 1982. Almost from the start they managed to get a large and loyal following due, in no small part, to their heavy emphasis on guitars and drums. They put Celtic Rock on the map (the band were from Scotland) and their reliance on guitar licks, rather than synthesizers made them a popular alternative to the electronics laden New Wave and New Romantic bands who were dominating the airwaves at the time.

But their massive popularity wasn't to carry over into the 90's when Grunge and Madchester took over, even though arguably they could have morphed into a successful quasi-Grunge outfit without too much effort.

Tonight it's a track off their debut album The Crossing and a track which was initially issued as their second single, Fields Of Fire.

Sadly, Big Country were marred with tragedy in later years, but they are still together with a different lineup (for the most part), performing and recording.

In case you missed the 80's the first time around - here's a reminder.
