Nights At The Roundtable - Les McCann And Gerald Wilson - 1965

Nights at the Roundtable with Les McCann and Gerald Wilson and his Orchestra from their 1965 collaboration "Les McCann And The Gerald Wilson Orchestra" for Pacific Jazz Records.

Les McCann with Gerald Wilson - one of the great collaborations.

Les McCann with The Gerald Wilson Orchestra. This was the outcome of a series of sessions from 1964 with release of the album on the Pacific Jazz label in 1965. I have always felt Gerald Wilson to be one of the most brilliant and under-appreciated bandleader/arranger/composers in the world of Jazz. I have been a fan of his ever since hearing his first batch of 78 rpm sessions for the legendary Swingtime label (the label that gave us early Charles Mingus and Ray Charles). Both Wilson and McCann have been such staples of West Coast Jazz that this collaboration seemed long overdue.

Tonight's track is off that album, Pacific Jazz #91 and the opening track on side 1, Could Be.

Nice way to start the week.
