Nights At The Roundtable - Nat Shilkret - 1927

Nights At The Roundtable with early recording pioneer Nat Shilkret and his Orchestra play the standard "Me And My Shadow" recorded for RCA-Victor in 1927.

Nat Shilkret (center with Baton) and His Orchestra, circa 1927 - overdubs and sampling were Science Fiction.

Nat Shilkret before. But in the 1920's when the music business was just coming into its own, he was a household name and everyone knew who he was and probably had an armload of his records sitting in their living room.

Nathaniel Shilkret was a composer and bandleader who was very active, and very popular from the early 1920's to the late 1930's. Because he was so popular and was such a big seller at the time, his label (RCA-Victor) gave him carte blanche to do just about anything he wanted. And he used that freedom to great advantage by cultivating a wide range of talents and musical genres and introducing them to an eager and appreciative audience.

Tonights track, Me And My Shadow is a standard done hundreds of times over the years. This one was recorded on May 12, 1927.

Just remember, this was popular music 83 years ago and millions of people were listening to it. Even if you think it sounds strange. They would probably think the same thing about what you've been listening to lately.
