The Searchers. They had several hits early on and they had all the earmarks of a band destined to make a lasting impression on the music buying public.

Sadly, it wasn't the case and it wasn't that their music or the production was bad or a lack of trying. It was a simple case of timing and the incredible number of records being released over the average week, all struggling for airplay and all vying for audience attention. Some records, worthy and good records, records which became classics years later, were often ignored, given scant airplay or lost in the shuffle.

One record by The Searchers that proved to be a moderate hit, although by all rights it should have been a smash, was the Melvina Reynolds classic What Have They Done To The Rain, from 1964. This has always been one of my favorite records by them and it is a timeless piece of music on top of that. I suppose especially for this week.

If you've never heard this track before, please take the two minutes and thirty-two seconds out to give it a shot.

I promise you, it'll be worth it.
