A day not short on controversy. Starting with the Reagan Administration imposing further sanctions on the Syrians for aiding and abetting terrorists. The previous night, President Reagan went before cameras and microphones to do a "oh yeah, now I remember" speech regarding our actual aid to the Contras in the way of arms and our somewhat clandestine dealings with Iran, which Reagan was quick to point out had nothing to do with tampering of the 1980 election. The news wasn't greeted with enthusiasm on Capitol Hill with calls for an investigation getting louder by the minute. LIkewise, news around the rest of the world was met with equal incredulity. Reagan did go on to say at a dinner that evening that he felt the Iran-Contra fiasco was really a good thing and, eventually the American people would rejoice. Still waiting.

And there was more nuclear testing in the Nevada desert and threatened protests springing up.
