Universal Healthcare, there is a bizarre echo of arguments and situations almost identical to today, this week - the past six months.

As is evidenced by this report from NPR's Weekend Edition from April 23, 1994 and then-Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Dan Rostenkowski:

Dan Rostenkowski (Chairman: House Ways and Means Committee): “We do have a Truth in Legislating standard to meet, and that requires me to remind you that we still haven’t found the Health Fairy. And we’re not terribly optimistic that we will.”

Even then - and still today. All good intentions, shot down by the Party of No. Sandbags, sleights-of-hand, smokescreens. Seventy years and counting.

Is it ever going to change?
