Thunderclap Newman was put together by Pete Townshend as a way to showcase the singing/writing talent of his roadie, John 'Speedy' Keen. Townshend produced and played bass on this song under the pseudonym Bijou Drains, and the original title -'Revolution'- was changed to avoid conflict with the Beatles song of the same name. It went to number one in the UK for 3 weeks in 1969, but the band never achieved further success, putting them forever in the category of 'one-hit wonder'. Nevertheless, the song has had a long shelf life, appearing on many movie soundtracks and covered by various artists over the years. What is your favorite 'one hit wonder'?
