Fun. -- Some Nights
I have consistently rejected the framing of the 'fiscal cliff.' I hate the hyperbole and the fear mongering of the "Thelma and Louise go off the cliff" images that the traditional media use to freak out too many Americans. I actually heard from a financial advisor--not an unintelligent man by any means--who told me to reconsider my stock and retirement accounts before my taxes were raised next year. Not that I'm in that in the top 2 percent, he was worried that all of us would be looking at higher taxes because of the fiscal cliff. I just rolled my eyes and then launched into my "You really need to stop getting your news from 24 hour cable news, because they lie. All of them." rant.
But for as dismissive as I am about going off that cliff, I am very clear that we are approaching a major crossroads. We need to decide what we stand for in this country. What do we stand for? Will we be a country by, of and for the people? Or will we be by, of and for the oligarchs? Some nights, I don't know any more.
