Another Republiscum jumps ship. Fred Thompson defends lobbying, even though it led to him supporting the kinds of de-regulations which led to us paying for Charles Keating's corruption. Fast food chains refuse to follow requirements listing calories for their products. More CIA chicanery.

BaScOmBe's picture

(It must be noted that, although they try to be somewhat subtler about these detestable dynamics and their meaning, the Democrats drink deeply at this same trough of moral iniquity. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both advocate a militantly aggressive interventionism, and they make frequent threatening noises in Iran's direction. And Hillary Clinton also refuses all national -- and not insignificantly, personal -- responsibility for the catastrophe in Iraq: "[Our troops] gave the Iraqi people a chance for elections and to have a government. It is the Iraqis who have failed to take advantage of that opportunity." We have been failed by "our little brown brothers," still one more time. Our burdens are immeasurable.]

Poll: GOP support for Iraq war beginning to waver
POSTED: 11:14 p.m. EDT, June 26, 2007

Story Highlights
• Support for Iraq war at all-time low of 30 percent, according to latest CNN poll
• Sixty-nine percent of Americans believe the war is going badly
• GOP opposition growing and 42 percent support some form of troop withdrawal
• Sen. Lugar, a prominent foreign policy voice, says war needs to change course

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Public support for the war in Iraq has fallen to a new low. Not only that, but Republican support is beginning to waver.

President Bush's troop buildup, or "surge," meant to quell the sectarian violence is now in place.

"The final surge was just completed in the last 10 days," Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott said Sunday.

What happens now? "Come September, we'll have to see how they're doing and we'll have to make an assessment," Lott said. (Watch Schneider report the poll results Video)

But the public is already making an assessment, and it's not good. In the latest CNN-Opinion Research Corporation poll released Tuesday, 69 percent of those polled believe things are going badly in Iraq. Seventeen percent think the situation is improving. (View the latest poll results)

I usually hate those that grumble about taxes because in some ways taxes are good, but you know our government waste so much. Anderson Cooper had a great story about that guy at the Smithsonian who was really out of control. Big government is bad when you don't have oversight and accountability.

LIke - it's not FEMA that is bad because we need something like that to handle emergencies - what was the problem is who Bush put in charge of it

and i hate that right wing line that "i'm from the government and i'm here to help" is an oxymoron...

a government that helps the people is not bad what is bad is what America has and that is a government that cares only about the richest of the rich and the big corporations

Anybody know of a down-loadable copy of CIA's Family Jewels? Documents are available at www.foia.cia.gov but only one bloody page at a time. I've only got the first 50 of 702.

A 702-page CIA dossier known as the "Family Jewels" compiled at the behest of then agency director James Schlesinger in 1973. According to a memo written at the time, the purpose of the dossier was to identify all current and past CIA activities that "conflict with the provisions of the National Security Act of 1947" - and were, in other words, illegal. -- guardian.

There was a time, not so long ago, when the average American would instantly recognize an evil thing when they saw it and would find that thing repulsive and completely repugnant. And, not all that long ago a person like Joshua Muravchik would have been shunned as a twisted, sick-minded extremist. How low we have collectively sunk that a man like him, and the ideas and poison he promotes, would be given serious consideration by anybody other than the smallest handful of maladjusted fringers like himself. Our consciences have been gradually dumbed down, I suspect in part, by our collective, long-term television addiction.

Powell’s wife is on Today talking about what a shame that so many U.S. children don’t have health insurance and how our country does such a poor job funding healthcare for children. She is pushing some foundation she’s in charge of.

Golly gee Mrs. Powell, do you think one of the reasons our country has no money for safety-net healthcare is because it is spending a fucking fortune every day funding the Iraq occupation? The same occupation your husband pushed for when he sat down at the U.N. with his PowerPoint presentation showing spy satellite photos of truck trailers filled with WMD-making apparatus that turned out to be dairy equipment.

Of course Meredith didn’t dare bring that up.

It's really up to us to stop it. meredith, stick to looking pretty and hosting inane millionaire shows and leave the interviewing to 16 year olds as jesse on o'reilley's show. journalism 101.

It is very frustrating to know that other, very important issues are going on and we have to be assaulted by the likes of Bill O and Anne C on this excellent blog err on-line magazine. Why do we need to see their behavior or give it any attention at all?

Right now two citizens in New Hampshire (the Browns) one a doctor, are surrounded by FBI, IRS, and others and are about to be murdered for not paying taxes. They were denied to ask the court to produce a law that said they had to pay personal income tax (there is none) and we see nothing of this on this blog.

Ron Paul is being shut out of a debate in Iowa by Christians and nothing is seen here. In fact Ron Paul's name is not even in list on the left column?? Here's a man, the only adult running for president, who wants to abolish the illegal personal income tax, dismantle the CIA and Fed Res Bank (independent and foreign run,) and return us to a constitutional republic...and it is like he doesn't exist. Arron Russo has an incredible documentary...From Freedom to Facism that covers these issues and somehow no one on the staff can come up with a tie in to all that is going on out there??

The honey bee population is half as large as it was and we are in real danger of not having pollination to many of our crops. This is huge...yet it goes virtually unseen or talked about. No pollination means no food. No food means riots in the streets.

Tied into this is the fact that our skies, and those of all NATO nations are filled with Persistent Jet Trails that contain Barium, powdered Aluminum, Blood Pathogens, Ethyldibromide, etc. and a very real possible connection to illnesses in people and the demise of the honey bees and perhaps the loss of 65 percent of 20 bird species here in America.

This stuff is all connected to politics and news, and not some wack theories from marginal minds. While the machinations of the beltway are undeniably imortant, the reality of our world is also. If we make it to the end of the year, and for sure to the end of Bushs' term, without martial law we will be quite fortunate.

How does one get to be a reporter on this blog? I would gladly bring a different flavor to it.
