Feingold: "Getting out is getting out"
By Nicole Belle Thursday Jul 12, 2007 7:02pmWith Senate Democrats increasingly united, it looks as if for the first time, a majority of the Senate will support binding legislation with a firm end date for our open-ended military presence in Iraq, something I first called for, with support and input from so many of you, back in August of 2005.
This would be a watershed moment but we all agree that it has taken far too long to get here. The binding language in Levin-Reed makes this amendment significant and I will support it. But there are aspects of the amendment that are cause for concern - in particular, the exception for "providing logistical support" to Iraqi troops could give the administration too much wiggle room to "repackage" its failed military mission instead of redeploying our troops.

Feingold for President '08
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5458830500133582323&q=mos+def+b...
Yeah well there were candidates calling out against going into Iraq way befor you Feingold.
And if that frickin' monkey-boy Bu$h vetoes this, throw his sorry a$$ in jail.
I loves me some Feingold, but unless he means shutting down that huge, shiny new embassy and the 14 military bases in Iraq too, then he doesn't really mean "getting out means getting out."
Veto: Corlione
I don't fully trust him. This is his 3rd term. He had plenty of time to be against the war long before now.
But President Bush says "we're making progress."
Russ Feingold is the quintessential american "patriot" - make no mistake. He had the presence of mind to scutinize the WMD information and not go along with the status quo because he read what they all had to read and came away with a very different conclusion. As it turns out, he was absolutely right! He voted "no" when the dictator-enabling vote came about - unlike Hillary, Biden, Lieberman, McCain, and even Edwards. This is why if Feingold would run for President or grace someone else's ticket as Veep, this candidate would win this next election by a landslide.
We can only pray that Russ Feingold will be picked up by the Dem candidate in 08. His level of personal integrity eclipses everyone else in the Senate at this point.
This guy is an american hero. He is one of the incumbents who deserves his seat in Congress. He is perhaps THE ONLY one who is truly representing the majority of the american people these days.
O.T
self blog whore alert.
NEW EAGLE PICS ARE UP!!! and the baby eagles are now learning to fly,, well one is the other is kinda looking like say,, oh,,john warner going ´´really no shit, we can do this´´? think the muppet old men from the balcony?
enjoy and HELLO C&L folks :)
How about a Gore/Feingold ticket???
Oh lets not "re-deploy the troops"....
Lets Pull Them Completely OUT!.
As far as I can tell, Feingold and Kucinich are the only two democrats today who are doing their jobs for the american people in the entire congress. All the rest of the spineless sycophants have sold us down the river.
I dont agree with it. But then I didnt agree with the democratic opposition to gulf 1 either. Or their voting to get into this one.
They cant stop the Bush veto anyway.
Face it, republicans can't run a war. They can't run a country and they have never succeeded at anything they ever started.
Buisnessmen are incompetent political leaders.
Slippery Slime @ 8:
Feingold is one of the few Senators to vote against going into IRAQ from the beginning!! Get your facts straight. He voted No from the Beginning.
BTW he is not running for President. I just wish he would.
Slippery Slime @ 8:
Would you care to check your facts? For the record, Senator Russ Feingold's was one out of 23 votes in the Senate against the Iraq War Resolution of October 2002.
Salmineo @ 13:
Redeploy them home.
LibertyLover @ 17:
I'm not so sure about that. In anycase he's a bit to "socially liberal" for me anyway.
Feingold is one of the few Democrats who aren't bought & paid for by big business. He's fucking awesome.
isis11,
Question about your S/N: Is that as in, the band ISIS? Or the Egyptian goddess? Or...?
Inca Garcilaso de la Vega @ 18:
Well I'd tend to look more toward the other 23 instead of this guy.
Salmineo @ 16:
And even worse at making military decisions especially since the majority have no related military experience to draw upon. I wonder how this figures into their so called strategy. My guess is, this along with many other consequences of their Iraq war never crossed their minds:
200,000 Turkish troops on Iraqi border
The unusual buildup, which includes tanks, heavy artillery and aircraft, is part of a security crackdown on Kurdish rebels taking shelter in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq, said the security sources, who declined to be named.

Iranian forces, Kurdish guerrillas clash
SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq - Iranian artillery shelled near Iraqi Kurd villages Thursday as Iranian troops clashed with Kurdish guerrillas making an incursion across the border, officials in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan said.

Slippery Slime @ 20:
 whatever, troll.
Slippery Slime @ 20:
Huh? If you don't like the guy because he's not enough of a wingnut for you, just say so. But don't make shit up about him. He pulled out of the race for president precisely because he wanted to advocate against this war and didn't want a presidential campaign getting mixed up in that advocacy. Where I come from that's called integrity...a quality in short supply in DC.
We need to get out 100%. If Iraq needs logistic support, that's a job for the UN or for regional troops.
I'm sick of excuses and half measures. Get the hell out. NOW!
LibertyLover @ 24:
Personally I think fringe liberal social issues are holding back the fiscally liberal issues, such as healthcare etc..
name me one time aside from the ww2 and ww1 period , and the rev war during the 17,00s time frame, where the US goverment didint find a need for war, and didint expolit it for the pure $$$ gain, that left thousands dead and maimed.
name me ONE!
BUZZ cant count the cival war that was based on richy losing his cheap farm hands ,, it was more or less a battle of the we own,, you dont own , anymore.
Salmineo @ 16:
Ah, the irony: a Harvard MBA businessman, steadfast against setting goals, excellence in execution, deadlines, diplomatic initiatives (i.e., negotiations), financial objectives, etc.
Enough is enough with the bold promises, tough talk, and zero follow through.
Wake me up when you give him a bill to veto. Anything other than that is just more useless lip-flappery.
I know this is off-topic, and please delete the comment if you'd like, but could we please have an open thread (or post) regarding Mike Huckabee's (Wanna-be's?) pathetic attempt to get some attention?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070713/ap_on_el_pr/huckabee_moore_2
Looks like Wanna-be has joined the ranks of low-life trolls.
Site Monitor: We usually have an open thread come up around 8:30 pm Pacific/11:30 pm Eastern.
Inca Garcilaso de la Vega @ 29:
Thousands Dead. This Nation in Massive Debt. World hates us.
The Irony.
Inca Garcilaso de la Vega @ 29:
If thats the case then maybe they should have overseen the military logistical operations? Oops, maybe not. We all saw have well that worked out with the body armor.
About the only thing the Republicans have gotten "right" each and every time is that they been consistently wrong about everything each and every time.
Slippery Slime @ 22:
Uh? A reply that matches the nom de guerre...
...the exception for “providing logistical support” to Iraqi troops could give the administration too much wiggle room to “repackage” its failed military mission instead of redeploying our troops.
NO. That could never happen, could it? They've never done that before. (wink)
Why bother with Congress, grab a pitchfork.
Joe @ 33: Fully agree. See my comments in another C&L thread here.
Slippery Slime @ 27:
Just what is a fringe liberal social issue? Are you against a woman's right to choose?
Mon Liege----
Slippery Slime @ 27:
Would you, by chance, regard any of the following as a "fringe liberal social issue":
- Writ of Habeas Corpus
- Separation of State and Church
- Human Rights
- Equality before the law
. . .?
Where are all the usual suspects boldly announcing that there is no difference between the parties and that all Democratic politicians are the same as Republican ones?
Good question. Perhaps they are busy trying to digest this week's GOP scandals, desperately looking for ways to spin what is finally emerging as an irrefutable difference between Republican and Democratic politicians: a troubling majority of the former are prone to legislate against the very same acts they undertake in the privacy of their self-righteous chambers.
It is a crying shame that Russ Feingold will not be your next President. To have a man of his calibre as leader of the free world would certainly bring back some of the respect you have lost during Bush's tenure. There is no one currently in the running who can even come close. Such a pity.
WEEKLY END THE WAR DEMONSTRATION
By the way a group of us meet every Thursday 4:30 to 6PM
on the corner of Middleneck Road and
Northern B'lvd in Great Neck Long Island NY
We demonstrate against this war,
Bring American Flags and or "Bring Home the Troops" signs
or sign Honk to End the war
Or What ever suits your fancy
.
Make them need a Corleone ammendment.
Make them a deal they can't refuse.
Cause it means they give up the executive branch or else.
Do it now Democrats.
Do it now or the or else, impeach.
Yo Sippery Slime....
You should read up. Especially before you begin besmurching the likes of Russ Feingold. A man that is Patriotic every day whether the political atmosphere he is in calls for it or not.
1. He didn't vote for the war in iraq
2. He put forth a censure resolution for Bush because of the NSA spying program
3. He didn't vote for the travesty called the patriot act.
For gods sake go read something will ya?
isis11 @ 12:
Now you are cooking with fire!
I like when Russ is on Stephanie Miller's show
So proud of Russ.
There still are honest politicians in this country. Not many, not anywhere close to half, but you could use Russ as the example of what could be right about politics.
i *heart* Feingold
goddamnit i wish he would run
Are republicans not using Iraq as a political football?
A year ago none would join John Murtha and the Democrats to call for the redeployment of troops, now, as elections are approaching, those most vulnerable have decided to do the will of their constituents. Not for the benefit of the troops who are in danger of getting killed, wounded or maimed, but to assure that they will have a job come 2008.
Slippery Slime @ 8:
Remember until Jan 2007, Democrats were the minority and pretty much stimied at every step of the way. Since January Democrats are facing filibusters and vetoes. What we desperately need is a block of Senators who will stand up and override vetoes and bust filibusters.
This is my kind of guy, if only they were all like him
right on! @ 5:
Ship his ass along with the rest of him to Iraq before he gets a chance to veto this.
Put him on the front line - where he belongs.
Feingold, what a truly noble guy. He's stood ALONE against this administration, against the war, against all of his peers who sat silent and unresponsive while Feingold put himself on the LINE.
Truly courageous, decent man. The first clear voice. I recall his speech on the senate floor in '03 objecting to the war's illegality and everything corrupt this administration represents. Not one, not one peer took up the thread or supported him.
Baby, look at you now! God, I love this guy!
Someone tell me why Russ Feingold voted yes on Lieberman's amendment against Iran, if he's so upstanding.
I love Russ Feingold and have alway wished he would run in 08. He's one of the few who's had the courage to speak out on a number of issues. He's also extremely intelligent. I've watched in some of those hearings and he really has his act together. Although, where has he been the last few months? We haven't heard much out of him.
Shelly @56 where to find that amendment/Iran?
KONSERVO, call it a perceptual warp you've got there. Leahy is more outspoken than any senate member, and when he speaks he speaks from the constitution and the rule of law, the bottom line, the things that keep corruption of power in line!
It's the thing about undoing 7 years of the most outrageous perversions ever committed by any administration in the history of this country.
It's about the patience and procedure necessary to undo this bomb with sickness inside.
A bomb that has to be diffused with patience and backwards-seeming steps to prevent the rot inside it from exploding past redemption.
But you probably wouldn't know much about what it takes to clean up after a bad accident like this administration. You're looking through the wrong end of the telescope.
I have the utmost respect for Feingold, he is a true patriot.
Bye the way, #59 Konservo, watch what you say, we all know what you look like. Your pictured in Webster's dictionary next to the word asshole.
after watching that disgusting hillary-edwards multi-millionaire club moment, fuck them all.
christian @ 61:
As you wish. The nation's probably better off without your vote anyway....
I admire the man and his service and his voice of reason in the Senate but damn, he would have made the best President ever!
These Amendments to "scale down" the budget to zero, or define a pull out date with an Amendment, what's needed is the opposite: Start with a budget that has zero in it. Then make the GOP pass an Amendment to add dollars; if the President vetoes the bill with zeros, he still gets nothing. The problem with the Amendments is the GOP can block them. Stop doing that DNC. If the DNC keeps doing this, it's reasonable to assume the DNC refuses to do what it knows it could do: Zero-out budgets, and not use Amendments.
Yes! Dream ticket!!!!
