Heh. The Google bomb is da bomb :)

Fascist? Frist!

Lol, they're pointing fingers with 3 pointing right back. We're obviously fascist with our opposition to preemptive war, mistrust of political secrecy, and love of civil liberties.

I myself am a facist. I'm a sucker for a pretty face. Is there something wrong with that?

Could there be anything more fascist than alleging equivalence to a mass of jism or spunk? I think not!

I don't know about fascism but power does corrupt even the most honest man. We should get our precious checks and balances fixed in this country before we do anything else. So many checks and balances are missing that anyone in the presidency will become corrupt.

Only that your missing out on a lot of fun...

Liberal fascist is an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp or military intelligence!

ummm....before you are able to write and publish a book, shouldnt you own at least one dictionary and one book on world history?

the wingnuts have taken the word fascist and perverted it to their own uses

and ya, jonah is both a fucktard and an asshat

I would say his book is total projection..liberal fascist what a bunch of unmitigated horse shit.

Where did Goldberg fuckwad learn this piece of historical revisionism, was he home schooled?

Anyone else relieved that Edwards is FINALLY surging in the polls? I sure am, I was getting worried there. But thankfully Obama has flatlined, and the Clinton Dysnasty is tanking. Looks like it's finally coming together.

From a pretty good new speech today (least you can't say he's mincing words), if anyone was interested or missed it:

There are four truths that must be spoken in this election:

1. Everything that makes America "America" is threatened today.
2. This election is not just another four-year fight between political parties or competing ideas - it is an epic struggle for the future of America.
3. Corporate greed and the very powerful use their money to control Washington, and this corrupting influence is destroying the middle class
4. Real change is going to take a real fight. It always does.

Since the founding of this country, we have fought for change, and changed history.

When America was founded, there were people who wanted to negotiate with King George. Imagine if we had followed that path. There were people who wanted to contain the trusts instead of bust the trusts. Imagine if we had followed that path. But look what happened when Americans of great conviction led America to stand up for its principles and reach for higher ground. We fought for change, and we changed history.

During the Great Depression, FDR stood up to powerful, entrenched interests to lead this nation out of our darkest hour. He called on us to remember ‘the forgotten man at the bottom of the economic pyramid,’ and told us we have a moral responsibility to look out for one another; to help the millions of Americans living in poverty lift themselves up; to bring the millions being left in the shadows back into the light; to show all those who have been forgotten by their government and left to fend for themselves that they are not alone, because this is America. We fought for change, and we changed history.

Martin Luther King and the leaders of the Civil Rights movement, which I saw as a child growing up in the South, fought against centuries of entrenched bigotry and oppression. They called on us to live up to the best within ourselves, and the best within our nation. We fought for change, and we changed history.

When Iowa rises, America will rise. We will defeat greed and fear -- and strike a blow for working people, for those with no voice, for those Washington has ignored for too long. I promise you this: if you join us to strike that blow they will not ignore you for one more day. The folks in Washington and on Wall Street will hear you loud and clear, and they will know that their grip on power and money is coming loose. They will know that America is rising. And we're coming to take our country back.

*SIGH* Really... who cares any more? This is just more of the same from the rightwingnut circle-jerk club. They haven't had an original thought since their brains fused as babies. At first, this stuff was really funny, then it was simply amusing, now it's just boring as hell. Just like their Antichrist they worship, the Great Bushmoron. None of them are relevant. They are all pathetically trying hard to have the World notice them and worship at their feet, when all they really deserve is to be flushed down the great toilet bowl of failure with the rest of the refuse.

Someone... just pull the damned chain and get it over with! Please!!

IMHO, restoring some sanity into the National discourse (or I should say: starting a sane National discourse) would be a great way to get America moving forward for a change.

WASHINGTON - To help reduce the risk of fires, air travelers will no longer be able to pack loose lithium batteries in checked luggage beginning Jan. 1, the Transportation Department said Friday.

Passengers can still check baggage with lithium batteries if they are installed in electronic devices, such as cameras, cell phones and laptop computers. If packed in plastic bags, batteries may be in carryon baggage. The limit is two batteries per passenger.

The ban affects shipments of non-rechargeable lithium batteries, such as those made by Energizer Holdings Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co.'s Duracell brand.

"Doing something as simple as keeping a spare battery in its original retail packaging or a plastic zip-lock bag will prevent unintentional short-circuiting and fires," Krista Edwards, deputy administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, said in a release.

The Federal Aviation Administration has found that fire-protection systems in the cargo hold of passenger planes can't put out fires sparked in lithium batteries.

The National Transportation Safety Board earlier this month said it could not rule out lithium batteries as the source of a cargo plane fire at Philadelphia International Airport last year.

Hillary is a Rethug in Dem clothing. There would be more change under Ron Paul than Hillary.

I'd have to say I disagree with that Greg. I'm not a fan of Hillary by ANY stretch; but Ron Paul is only slightly better than the rest of his field. Basically the ONLY issue he's correct on seems to be the Iraq war.

I'm still pulling for Kucinich or Dodd though; those are the guys who'd REALLY do this country good.

Anyone else relieved that Edwards is FINALLY surging in the polls? I sure am, I was getting worried there. But thankfully Obama has flatlined, and the Clinton Dysnasty is tanking. Looks like it's finally coming together.

The 'Clintonistas' at Daily Kos are in full denial and banning mode, Edwards supporters are vanishing on a daily basis.

I have conservative ideas myself. I am monogamous, balance my checkbook and generally believe the government should live within it's means. I have libertarian ideas - such as favoring drug legalization. So I think I have a pretty fair grasp of those concepts.

If I were actually a conservative, the present regime would have driven me batshit crazy by now.

The deficit spending of this administration has so devalued the dollar (Gold hit a low of $250 an ounce during the Clinton administration - it is now bouncing around $800 an ounce - headed for $1000. Gold is money - paper is not.) that the Chinese can throw us into a depression at any time of their choosing -simply by dumping dollars. I have heard sage commentary that this will never happen - it would not be in the Chinese interest. Makes me want to pull my hair out. Remember Taiwan? Remember Clinton sending the fleet to stop Chinese missiles being lobbed over same? Wouldn't dumping dollars be a lot safer and cheaper than WWIII?

Wait until the Olympics are over. There will be no serious boat-rocking until they are concluded (most westerners have no idea what "face" means - much less how important it is to the Beijing government, and what a big hairy deal the Olympics are there.). Afterwards, hang on to your hat! Things are gonna get very interesting. Remember you read it here first.

Where are the conservative protests against the fact that all our communications are currently monitored? Against the destruction of our military? Against the shredding of our constitution and the assumption of dictatorial powers by Cheney and Bush. They should be our biggest allies against this fascist regime!

Either the conservative movement in this country is completely dead or never actually really existed!

In the future, when I hear someone describe themselves as conservative, I'm gonna ask them who they voted for in 04. If they say Bush, I'm gonna laugh in their face.

The U.S. is thinking of intervening in the investigation of Bhutto's death. Isn't that special?

Of course they do! That's why the actual fascists devalue the word as much as possible by using it to label us. Savage does it all the time. When truth is on the other side - if you have no scruples at all - spread as much confusion as possible.

Liberal Fascism:

repairing infrastructure

the best universal healthcare

peace and harmony

Right. So we can only assume that Jonah alone is possessed of the incisive intellect to have resisted the seductive siren song of socialist sensibilities, peddled by the fascist femme fatales hiding in faculty rooms across America. That he recognizes dress codes and school uniforms as nothing less than the sartorial descendents of the Hitler Youth and the Brownshirts.

But why is it, then, that one of the most liberal cities in America, San Francisco, can't have trains that run on time? Hitler did it; why can't Gavin Newsom and Chris Daly?

Civil Liberal Fascism.

In the above list, pick the word that does not belong.

A. Civil

B. Liberal

C. Fascim

If you picked A congratulations, you have automatically been registered a as a Republican and may be eligible to host a talk show on Fox.

If you picked B you already work for the Bush Administration.

If you picked C you have apparently figured out by now that your country has been taken over by the most misdirected, ambitious, greedy thugs we have ever seen. Not just in the Administration but also in the Courts, the Congress, the Media and Big Business.

This personality test and your responses have been recorded.

Mussolini's talk of his desire to crush socialism under his boot pretty much proves that he was far from being a liberal.

I'm sad to report that the use of the word "fascism", bandied around helter-skelter to attack liberals, is not a unique American project. Right-wing autocrats from all over the world (well, talking of Europe here) have made the same projection.

So you can't even say Jonah is original, even for a conservative...

Hillary used to talk about a "vast right wing conspiracy," which at the time I assumed to be a paranoid delusion on her part. But today I can actually imagine Rush, Michelle, Laura, Bill, et al. having weekly confabs (perhaps by internet link-up) and, with input from Frank ("Words that Work") Luntz, of course, dream up these silly conundra, which lafin gas rightfully characterizes as "oxymoronic." (I would cavil with lafin about his other examples, since at least some military intelligence is often on the mark, and "jumbo" with reference to shrimp is argot or cant for a particular size of the shellfish, and also since I think, with a bit of thought, better oxymoronic examples might be found, e.g. "compassionate conservatism.")

In any case, and before I digress into oblivion, I would suggest that the reason these geeks come up with such gobbledygook is because they know they can get away with it. Goebbels did. A lie told often enough is eventually believed or accepted as truth. One imagines Luntz, in particular, reading Orwell and thinking "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words." There is a long history of newspeak in right wing propaganda. One thinks, for example, of the anti-abortion gang with their "right to life" (as if those in favor of legal abortions supported death). Thankfully, the people at Planned Parenthood, N.O.W., and other groups came up with newspeak of their own: "freedom of choice." If one cannot beat an enemy, join them.

It goes without saying that liberalism is inimical to fascist thinking. As lafin would point out, liberalism is the very opposite of fascism. Inspired by one of my heroes, Gore Vidal, I've taken to calling the Jonah Goldbergs of this world "crypto-fascists." (I think I first heard the expression during the memorable convention booth spat between Vidal and Buckley, which included a fey threat from Wild Bill to "sock you in the face and you'll stay plastered." He also called Vidal a "queer" -- this was on network TV mind you -- but that is besides the point.)

Goldberg's title is intriguing. Just how does the man trace the roots of the so-called "American left" from Benito Mussolini? George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Rudy Giuliana have much more in common with Il Duce than anyone on the left. A liberal would not suspend habeas corpus. A liberal would not tap the phones of American citizens, monitor the books they check out at public libraries, and keep records of what foreign countries they visit, how long they're gone and so forth. A liberal would not invade another country unilaterally without U.N. support and something a bit more universal than a so-called "Coalition of the Willing."

If we put the shoe on the other foot, we come up with equally absurd book titles like, Conservative Marxism: The Secret History of the American Right, From Stalin to the Politics of Disassembly. (Yeah, I know, it's "dissembly," but Bush said "disassembly" with reference to terrorists; after all, he is the Grand Champion Malapropist.) But you get the idea. Lafin also wonders aloud if ol' Lush Rambo put his housekeeper up to going out for multiple scripts for "oxymoron." No, no, no, lafin! That wasn't oxymoron he sent out for, it was Oxy Permian. He was just buying some equities.

Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning.

Jeez, and I thought Mussolini was an Italian

After looking at the comments on Amazon i am wondering if this isn't the begining of the much more serious war on liberals and leftists i have been worried about. The pundits on the right don't have to know what they are talking about to make people believe them, all they have to do is quote, repeat the quote, berate the guests and come to work day in and day out.

"...Nazis declared war on smoking..."

Ok, they got something right (and i smoke, i just wish i had never been brainwashed into trying it.)

Not even sure the statement is true, not sure the book has any facts.

The neocons are country club communists. The way they rule, with no regard for any of their people outside of their immediate party cronies, is very similar to the old Soviet and Eastern European leaders. Secretive, pathological liars, with no humanity or decency what so-ever.

They were obsessed with the goal of enabling their party cronies to gain control over every facet of the Orwellean state they created. And they spent all of their remaining time trying to control vast portions of the world through war and aggression, until it bankrupted them out of existence. Sound familiar?

Liberal fascist=promiscuous virgin.

Just like publishing a secret.

re: "Pakistan: Al Qieda behind Bhutto killing"

Awfully convenient that the very terrorist organization, the one which Musharraf can't seem to kick out of his country, has developed a habit of killing his political opponents instead of him. So the age-old tenet resurfaces: "who ultimately benefits?"
The power vaccuum after Musharraf, which Bhutto might've played a part in filling, is now wide open. Totalitarian politics, as nature, abhors a vaccuum. And I'm sure Musharraf will return to fill the void perfectly, to absolutely noone's suprise.

Judicial Watch Announces List of Washington’s “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” for 2007

Washington, DC –Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released its 2007 list of Washington’s “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians.” The list, in alphabetical order, includes:

1. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY): In addition to her long and sordid ethics record, Senator Hillary Clinton took a lot of heat in 2007 – and rightly so – for blocking the release her official White House records. Many suspect these records contain a treasure trove of information related to her role in a number of serious Clinton-era scandals. Moreover, in March 2007, Judicial Watch filed an ethics complaint against Senator Clinton for filing false financial disclosure forms with the U.S. Senate (again). And Hillary’s top campaign contributor, Norman Hsu, was exposed as a felon and a fugitive from justice in 2007. Hsu pleaded guilt to one count of grand theft for defrauding investors as part of a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme.

A depression is coming. Better get prepared.

Here's a news storie to choke on. A group of four robbers who knew what they were doing broke into a nuke facility in South Africa. The got all the way into the facility where the uranium is kept and escaped. Neither South African officials or the report would confirm if uranium was stolen or how much. There was enough weapons grade uranium in the facility to make 25 nukes.

No no no fool me. I just spoke with my financial adviser at the local credit union and she's sure everything is hunky dory.

When you hear from CNBC that Bank of America is going to stop serving soup in their cafeteria, or worse, stop supplying soap in their bathrooms, then you know the shit has hit the fan. Citibank is preparing to cut 16,000 to 32,000 jobs. But not to worry, the CEO's and the CFO's who made the horrible terrible investments in crap loans will be getting their bonuses and get to keep their golden parachutes.

I'm telling you, a depression is coming, and you had better get prepared. If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to them.

The books keep piling up in the shithouses of the rightwingers who are the only ones purchasing this drivel. They'll never have to buy Charmin again. The Sears catalog has been spared.

I noticed that Jonah's bio says "He is the 2001 winner of the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award. "

He doesn't mention that this Lowell Thomas Award (not to be confused with other similarly named awards) comes from the IPA (International Platform Association) an (ex?) public speaking organization.

It seems the Goldberg's award may have killed the organization. The last mentions I can find of it are from 2001 here and here. In fact the web address given in the above link, International Platform Association, is available for sale.

If you look the two web links above it appears that the organization was taken over by right wing speakers and then collapsed. A shame, because reportedly The IPA was founded in 1831 by Daniel Webster and is the oldest free-speech organization in the country. It seems at one time they were somewhat respected, with people like Lyndon Johnson making speeches to them.

Right wing communist may sound like an oxymoron but, look at the people's republic of china.

Well, just for the record, I was speaking of true Marxist communism. Marxist communism is definitely a thing of the left (and something I rather favor in many ways - I hardly think its perfect; but I think it has some great ideas); and the right has always fought it tooth and nail.

China, just like the Soviet Union before it, and North Korea, were/are Fascist by definition.

I mean they have all the qualifying characteristics.

A) Scapegoating (of several types, religious, ethnic, and class based)

B) Corporatism (Sure, the corporations are all run by the state; but then the Nazis and Mussolini's groups both nationalized a great deal of business as well) - in the end, making the product comes before the people.

C) The people in power try to develop a cult of personality. (Stalin, Lenin, Mao, Kim)

D) There are no rights - free speech is abandoned, the rule of law is second to the rule of the powerful. Punishments are harsh, even for somewhat minor crimes.

I could keep going...

You can CALL yourself whatever you like; but facts bear things out a little differently ya know? "Communist" China isn't Communist anymore than Liberals can be Fascists.

I'll add - true conservatives can't be fascists either - they're fundementally different ideologies. That's part of what I find so dangerous about the modern 'conservative' movement. They don't even understand their own ideology (that is, a preference for the familiar, tradition, and fiscal responsibility; an emphasis on the individual's responsibility etc...)

I may not AGREE with traditional conservatism on... well... hardly any points; but I can see clearly that THAT ideology, and the ideology of the modern Neocon are quite far removed.

Sorry for that; I know you didn't mean to offend, and no offense was taken; but I wanted to explain a little better.

That's just HOW wrong Mr. Goldberg is. He can't even figure out what HE is. I honestly wonder if wearing a Swastika armband would even clue him in. *sigh*

Goldberg's smarmy musings are offensive on so many levels. Devoid of military experience, he cheerleads for war from the comfort of his word processor. Cherry picking history as well as current events, he strains credulity way past the breaking point in order to sound pithy and cute about gravely important matters. In the finest neoconservative tradition, he insults and questions the bona fides of war heroes like Jim Webb or John Kerry simply because he disagrees with them. Furthermore, he is just plain wrong in his bizarre analogies.
Goldberg’s analyses would be laughable if he chose less somber subjects. I’m no Republican, but when the MSM wants to publish pronouncements from the right about history and war, why not look to generals and veterans who seriously consider these subjects, such as Colin Powell, Chuck Hagel and so many others. Frankly, I think Jonah suffers from an overindulgence in potty training by his mommy.

She died as a result of the scull fracture from the handle of the sun roof.

How about “compassionate conservative”?

I've been following this at S,N! for the past week or so, as they've been covering it the most. This pile of crap to come out of Jonah's ass is high hilarity. One person suggested replacing every instance of "liberal" and "fascist" in that book with "poopy head", and it becomes obvious that he's just smearing anyone he hates.

Woohoo! My comment comes up on the first link. ^_^

This liberal fascist doesn't like to read this "stuff" before coffee.
I guess Jonah knows "Fascist" when he writes about 'em!

I thought corporate control of government was inherent in any fascism, yet the right seems to have redefined the word to simply be a synonym for "totalitarianism" or "Orwellianism".

The right suggests that scientists who warn of global warming are socialists out to destroy the capitalist system of Porsches and big houses *and* that scientists who warn of global warming are greedheads just after grant money so they can buy Porsches and big houses...

The right suggests that liberals are fascists who want to eliminate all individual rights, *and* that liberals are hedonists who want to live in morally relativist anarchy where anything is permitted, from aborting your toddler to having sex with a box turtle...

Well, I guess when you can profess belief in the preposterous contradictions and absurdities of Christianity, I guess you'll believe anything...

Let's be clear about this: Authoritarianism does not equal Fascism.

As pointed out on this thread before, and in one of the blog articles linked, important elements of Fascism are corporatism and the privatisation of the state (Jonah fails to mention that Mussolini was also very keen on this). Interestingly, also anti-communism. Stalin and Mao may have been Authoritarian, but not Fascist, by definition.

If you'll notice the examples he uses ("the Nazis banned smoking" etc), it is this distinction, between Authoritarianism and Fascism that the Right would like to muddy. This, because the definition of Fascism is not cut and dry.

What scares me is that the recent resurgence of Corporatism (Haliburton, Blackwater, need I say more?) and our losses of civil liberties, is exactly the kind of thing that makes me worried that real Fascistic tendencies are on the up. Any book on the subject has to begin by tackling the question of the meaning of "Fascism". I wonder if, and how, "Liberal Fascism" will go about that.

As the Wikipedia entry points out so well,

the term has now fallen largely into disuse as an objective description. It is now used more as an epithet than as a term for any existing systems. This is true even in countries where it might legitimately apply.

Jonah means to use it as an epithet, yet pretends he's being objective. How disingenuous. How disgustingly dishonest (intellectually).

He did this in 1933 when the dollar collapsed and couldn't be backed up by gold reserves. Then FDR and Truman reinstituted the gold standard with the Bretton Woods agreement, and when that collapsed in the early 70's, Nixon also issued an executive order for all Americans to turn in their gold and silver.

Since then, every major country in the world got off the gold standard because the BW agreement was pretty much the core for the global economy for the gold standard. The only country that had its currency backed (partially) by gold was the Swiss Franc. However, with the Nazi gold scandal, they went to pure fiat in 2000.

His book Liberal Fascism: The Totalitarian Temptation: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning has undergone a number of subtitle revisions. Previous subtitles include: "The Totalitarian Temptation From Hegel to Whole Foods and "The Totalitarian Temptation From Mussolini to Hillary Clinton (ISBN 0385511841, due December 2007).

Conyers knows that Pelosi will undercut the efforts of impeachment rather than helping to build a bi-partisan coalition to impeach.

Conyers knows that Pelosi will again be Speaker of the House next year and she will take him off the Judiciary Committee if he goes against her wishes. It’s a “lose-lose” for him and impeachment.

You are correct. Despite Time Magazine's claim that it was a "Plot Without Plotters", as the introduction states in War Is A Racket, there was indeed a "Wall Street Plot to Seize the Government" in 1934 by American Legion leaders and reputable Wall Street financiers, one being a major attorney for J.P. Morgan & Co. These businessmen needed someone to lead the overthrow of the government in order to install the first American fascist dictatorship. The sought the aid of Brigadier General Smedley D. Butler. But Butler turned the tables on them by revealing the plot to the press and in testimony in front of a Congressional committee. But the press, including the New York Times, tried to suppress and distort what Butler had done.

Two books have revealed the actual circumstances of what had transpired. With regards to IMF and international banking, I believe Brazil and another country in South America paid off their entire debt this year, leading to a poor christmas party in IMF, due to loss of interest :)

Interestingly enough, one of the most efficient ways to help developing countries is to give out cheap microloans(5000-10000 USD), which is repaid on the average of 99,7%, as opposed to "normal" loans in the western world, which carries higher rate of loss, but also a very much higher interest.

Seems interesting, especially the part of causing the '29 crash, and all the high and mighty got out early enough. They are a bit generic on lumping socialism and communism together though, and I found the senator quotes from 1931, where they refer to "World War 1" instead of "The Great War" as it was known as back then, very odd, and not reliable.

Glad yer watchin'it!

Yeah... money/gold...history of...what a fiat currency is ect...ect...is a very big concept that I never learned in school...

I grew up thinking the federal reserve was federal till a couple yrs ago

after learning about money recently...to me... its not communism or fascism...left right...repiglikkin/dreamocrap anymore...

Its the haves vs. have nots

p.s. dont forget to watch part one!

Calling FDR a fascist is as absurd as calling Sammy Davis Jr. a Klan member.

Whaddayou talking? Sammy joined a Klan Temple.

Liberal fascist=promiscuous virgin.

Contradiction in terms. Well beyond an oxymoron.

Just like publishing a secret.

There really is a sucker born every minute.

There are plenty of "promiscuous virgin[s]." They are called chickenheads.
