Evidence of a covert campaign to undermine the presidential primaries is rife, so it’s curious that the Democractic Party and even some within the G.O.P. have decided to ignore the actual elephant in the room this year. That would be Karl Rove. After rigging two previous presidential elections, this master of deceit would have us believe that he’s gone off to sit in a corner and write op-eds.
Not so. According to an article in Time Magazine, Republican party activists have been organized to throw their weight behind Barack Obama, the democratic rival of frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Early in Obama’s campaign, major G.O.P. fundraisers and at least one indicted criminal flushed his coffers with cash - something the deep pockets haven’t done for any candidate in their own party. With receipts topping $100 million in 2007, the first-term senator from Illinois is doing well, considering few Americans had even heard of him before 2006.
The Time magazine article goes on to explain that rank and file Republicans in red states have switched their party registrations, enabling them to vote in Democratic primaries. The G.O.P. didn’t even compete in the Nevada primary, and Obama picked up most of his Super Tuesday wins in red states organized specifically for this purpose. Called crossover voting, the tactic is playing a crucial role in the Rove push to deprive Hillary of the Democratic nomination. Even with paperless electronic voting equipment, waitlisting, swiftboating and entire p.r. firms at his disposal, Rove would be hard pressed to defeat Clinton in November. If the contest isn’t close, the vote-rigging won’t matter.
If, on the other hand, Obama wins the primary, Rove’s prospects brighten considerably. So far, he’s covered his tracks with the help of the mainstream press, which seems bent on repeating the debacle of false reporting that produced the Iraq War in 2003. For example, The author of the Time magazine article, Jay Newton-Small, offered the following explanation to account for the bizarre love affair G.O.P. voters say they’re having with an African American senator on the other side of the aisle. “It seems a lot of Republicans took to heart Obama’s statement in his rousing speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention that ‘there is not a liberal America and a conservative America — there is the United States of America.’”

I see nothing wrong with rhetorical devices as long as there's substance behind them. It also helps to include working links (in the comment @ 11 above as well as the other C&L threads where that identical comment was spammed posted).

I have to say that Scheider's performance in "All That Jazz" was absolutely one of his finest. Glad to see you mentioned it here considering the fact that he will mostly be remembered for "Jaws"

There is a God and my religion is true, I live that way I am ready for eternal blessings in the afterlife (rapture). 2. I live my religion with honesty and willingness to do good. I am wrong. Have the longest sleep like Plato thought, but at least I've been part of a solution, not a problem. 3. I've lived a life of dishonesty, selfishness, not loving, and impure. I die. Go for the big sleep. No heaven (rapture)or no hell for me, I've been a problem to others, no ones solution. 4. I live like # 3, and find out the myth was really the gospel (truth). Recently became an outspoken critic of the Iraq war. And other notable roles: I remember the public outcry over "the government invading our privacy" when the movie "Blue Thunder" came out and everyone saw all the incredible surveillance technology onboard that chopper (see through walls and listen in on conversations.)

And a personal Scheider fav of mine that is often overlooked: "2010". :)

I didn't realized so many people would be pissed off that I came home. Maybe I should go back.

As an atheist, I admit it does bother me that there is no firery pit awaiting the the murderous thugs that hijacked our country, and that most of them will die comfortably in their beds after living to be very old and wealthy.

Religion has never been more than the power elite's prefered method of crowd control, a way to keep the oppressed from finally killing them all and taking their stuff. I sincerely doubt that any world leader actually believes in a judgement day, because if they really did, they'd all be cowering in a cave somewhere, afraid for their immortal soul for all the crimes they committed.

Damn straight. All That Jazz is a must-see. I don't particularly like musicals or dancing films but I LOVE that movie. Roy Scheider is a big reason. He ruled.

Forced testing in English in Illinois

According to this article, No Child Left Behind is forcing the Illinois State Board of Education to require ISAT achievement testing in ENGLISH ONLY or lose "millions -- if not billions" in federal aid.

The Chicago school system has offered to PAY to let kids take the test in other languages.

This clusterf*ck will cause schools to be labeled as failing under No Child Left Behind and they will not get funding where it is needed most.

Well besides Pennsylvania having a closed primary, I find it odd it begins raving how Rove is supposedly manipulating for Obama in this opinion piece. While it then closes with praises of super delegates who will "insure" the Democratic nominee is actually be determined by Democrats. That and going on how Howard Dean and the DNC need to stay out, without any mention of the DLC, makes this article's analysis and objectiveness a bit questionable.

If there is a rapture there are going to be a lot of bible thumpers left behind but I guess they can still worship in there million dollar + churches and rail against whatever menace of the day is.
