Am I the only one, or did Letterman seem to go easy on McLame last night?
pretty standard polite chat show fare.
did you catch McCain's joke about the GOPs approval rating ! "19% blood relatives and staffers"
gotta admit that was amusing, definitely Manchurian territory.

Why has no one looked at the massive increase in profits for oil refineries as a possible cause for our high gasoline prices? Its not rocket science yet it seems no one asked the oil barons while they were in DC. Lets see falling dollar = oil prices are high for oil companies too. So how do they profit so much? Oil -> refining -> Gas. Refining has become highly profitable yet it seems few dont know it.

Congress just had the oil barons explaining themselves this week.

That was some fine multi-billion dollar begging on CSPAN yesterday. Almost earned their bonuses.
If that was supposed to be a multiple choice question it was not well framed. Here's a better idea. Stop destabilizing the middle east with asinine military adventures.
A few reasons why gas prices are so high:
1. In 2003, Senator Carl Levin released a report detailing how, in 2002, Bush added 40 million barrels to the national reserves. He did this when the market was strong and oil supplies were tight, which increased demand and drove up prices.
The Senate report said in a one-month period in mid 2002 the Bush administration purchases caused crude oil prices to soar, raising the cost of heating oil by 13%, jet fuel by 10% and diesel fuel by 8%. The bottom line was the Bush policy change cost citizens between $500 million and $1 billion.
What a surprise that Bush did this on the advice of Cheney's National Energy Policy group, which included Bush's campaign donors in the oil biz.
May I call you by your first name? In, we don’t hate America, we hate criminals taking it over and lining their pockets with our money. And listen to me closely In, the oil companies have done everything in their power to impede any alternative fuel advances for the last hundred years. I could go on In, but my experience with rightwingers is they don’t want to hear anything contrary to their own little fantasy.
Where's Proud2bHumble when we need him. He loves the challenge and confrontation with recontards or whatever he calls them. lol.
How about repugnantcants? Can't do anything right.
Sadly he is taking a short site monitor inspired time out. Hopefully to return in a weeks time. May I recommend a visit to his fortress of solitude where comments may be posted: http://proud2bhumble.blogspot.com/

Oh, I missed it! Maybe they'll have reruns? It's important to know how you're going to get screwed.
With all the money we have given to Israel over the years, I wonder what would happen if we just told them to solve their own problems and let them know that no, they are not entitled to every grain of sand in their neighborhood and that they need to make nice and play fair. And if they can't do that then they are on their own since most of these problems and issues we keep getting ourselves involved in over in that little haven of the world has its root cause in our unflinching support of that one country. And I know there are looney tunes on both sides of the fence over there but we are just plain tired of playing hall monitor every time they lob rockets back in forth in the name of God or Allah. Just asking.

Listened to it on CSPAN channel (XM radio) in my rental car. They may rebroadcast later (?) Don't know the XM/CSPAN schedule, and got to return the rental tomorrow. Back to AM-FM crap...
Best part was hearing them cry about how much their expenses have gone up, so they still need their BushCo tax breaks. Not that they'd invest them in alternative energy though. Waaahh...
Shocking news is being leaked out by Hersh of The New Yorker, as well as Sen. John Warner and Sen. Lindsay Graham, that kids were raped at Abu Graib, possibly to terrorize their mothers who had been arrested. The Pentagon has the videos. This opens up a huge can of worms and so help me god, if these reports are true, the American people have to demand accountability right up to the highest level which is the White House and President Bush and Cheyney in particular. If these acts occurred, and we should find out pretty soon, nothing short of hanging is warranted, just like Saddam.
Why do extreme right wing neo-fascists assume they are America. It's them we despise. America we are all rather fond of.
[Deleted post]
Where have I blamed America for anything? I always take care to distinguish between the America I admire and the idiots who are currently responsible for sad state of affairs. I am speaking of course of Bush-Cheney, two avatars of the same fool.

I have said for years that dick cheney's sole chance to do some good for this world would be to play the Penguin in a Batman movie.
Heck, he wouldn't even have to act evil!

christianity in America must be run by satan. it's certainly
not a compassionate form of religion now.
If God existed before the three great Abrahamic Religions laid claim to him (or her) then everything since their claim has been nothing more than territorial and authoritarian disputes.
Humans have been around in our present form for several hundred thousand years, and the Earth has been around for appx. 4.5 billion years.
The Abrahamic religions have been around for appx. 3000 years and yet the entirety of the human experience is suppose to turn to these three religions for knowledge and authority on all subjects related to God and Man?
What arrogance!

There seems to be something missing here tonight, a certain esprit and saltiness. I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm afraid our site monitors may fall asleep at the wheel if we don't jazz this place up.
The price of gasoline is up because the price of crude oil is up because the character of the American Business Man, Congressman and a whole portion of our society are floating in a clogged toilet of personal greed, corruption and probably blackmail. The hard-hearted souls running this asylum know very well that we have to pay the price or severely limit our lifestyle, and they know that they can suck us dry while soothing us with bullshit like comparative profits, taking large profit now in the "up cycle" for when the "down cycle" begins......and meanwhile we have a Prez & VP who are just sucking the profits out of a middle class whom they and the Clinton's sent most of the jobs overseas......which has created the ripe economic conditions that will drive our young into the military......which they will then be sent abroad to secure the high priced oil that their friends will sell back to us at an eve higher price.....and if that doesn't do it for you....try this
The Burning Bush
Blistered souls float scattered about,
adrift on a sea of pain.
Crimson waves of death crest near,
as The Decider lies in vain.
Fear the horde, no, the other horde,
he plies throughout the land.
As our children's children disintegrate,
perhaps an eye, or yet a hand.
He says he guards our very lives,
the existence of civilized man.
But in the alleys of ancient Baghdad,
America's Best wish he'd share his plan.
Vacant cries of "who could have known?",
amidst the pyres of World Trade.
Lay bare the myth of his compassion,
"My Pet Goat", his cowardly shade.
Proxy war and proxy dead,
to The Shrub it matters not.
Provided Dick can exercise Options,
as long as Haliburton stays red-hot.
Treasure bled in flesh and gold,
across dunes of soulless oil.
Simmering cauldrons of historic hate,
churned to a gently rolling boil.
The Burning Bush admits no errors,
nor the ditch into which we've steered.
Back into the breach he madly proclaims,
after all, "you volunteered"

I always thought that Dick Cheney resembled the penguin, in appearance and lifestyle. I guess the reason you cant find his house on Google Earth is because you can't, he actually lives in the sewer with the rest of the evil clowns. I think I saw Rumsfeld running around with a pet monkey.

Didn't see you up there Ron. Hi. Hoping x will come around in the fullness of time. I've been communing with our Dark Lord at his locker room. You should drop around. Gotta run now. Catch you later.
I want to spice it up around here. I just don't know how spicy is too hot for the show. I'm sick about talking about all the effects of the crime without speaking about the scene or looking at the roots. An old Governor came out soon and said some pretty controversial things about the War and the Situation here in America. He also touched on the immigration problem. Larry King interviewed him. He's been in the ring, but he's also been in the Seals. Worth checking out.
I don't know why nobody is talking about the torture memos. Are we becoming numb about this?

Msnbc has to stop running those creepy heritage plan commercials every night. Someone born as recently as 1968 doesn't need to be planning their funeral. Makes me want to cancel cable.
The Sewage Plant is stupid in my opinion. Mildly humorous and funny yes, but a small victory compared to letting this man lie to us about everything from the attacks to the reasons for war. We need more than that.

Yeah I know Ron. We just need to keep our energy up over here. The outrage will spread. The public is worn out, numb, and ignorant. I don't blame them. The media lies to them. People are working longer often two jobs. The powers that be make an effort to dumb us down. ETc etc. It has got to be fought back though. And us holding one hand behind our back isn't going to cut it in my opinion. This is where its got to be laid on the table. Everything.
And now MLK's anniversary is coming up. People need to recognize. And find the anger that our leaders are being taken away from us. Malcolm X. Shot to hell. MLK put one in his chin. JFK blown away. RFK put down. The truth is out there for anyone who wants it. The societal pressure to ignore it is stupid. The polite silence is the same thing that Albert Einstein talked about and those other smart people who said.. its the people who stand by and say nothing who are the most responsible for the evils in the world flourishing. And I agree. Not enough are speaking out. And not enough are being encouraged to speak out.

So absolutely true Orangutan, I believe cleaning up oath of office breakers is only going to be accomplished by raising the awareness about our elections not counting votes and what we should do about it, and fighting against the corporate fascist media who refuses to report the most basic atrocities on our constitution. Fighting back big media, by setting up appointments to visit their public file, complaining to the unbalanced FCC who no longer follows their own mission statement. Protest the local television stations, when their reporters come around, don't go away or answer their questions, ask them why they won't report about election fraud, or (pick your choice of blacked out topic) Hit the Good Morning shows with Cardboard messages, freeway blog, visit Rockafella's Plaza with cardboard messages. Hello Mom and dad on one side, and BRING THE TROOPS HOME on the other side, coordinate it via cellphone, flip the card when the cameras pan on you. etc..
And we had all better fight for net neutrality or we won't be typing our blogs, cms's, bbs's much longer.

That's all we can do. That right there inspired me.
Congress can't keep up with the corruption.
The courts can't keep up with the corruption.
The EI community can't keep up with the corruption.
Ordinary people working hard to stay afloat in this ruined economy are not able to keep up with the corruption.
Reading bad news can now be classified as a full time job. Yeah we are burned out.
I don't know why nobody is talking about the torture memos. Are we becoming numb about this?
I think we're the only 5 or so people left who haven't stopped thinking about it.
You might be right. Now we have the information on how they justified torture, no one wants to face the reality of how it came about.
They can spin legalise every which way with torture but no country on this earth has ever justified torture on the very young in order to torture a parent psychologically. That's worse than barbaric. Let's see how Bush's spinners--arachnids all--spin their fine little threads about this scandal: "War is war" we can hear them say. "The five year old child should have known better; She was obviously an enemy combatant". "Rendition and waterboarding was the only method to extract the info from her 6 year old brother".
The rest of the world will really colsolidate their wretched views of America now. When children are involved, there is always more anger. Justifiably.
The oath breakers use timing to their advantage. So to put a stop to that, we need to jam the gears of their timing, it needs to happen before the event. Sort of like read their mind and predict which way the storm will blow before it goes there, waiting till the storm hits us and we will never get justice. We can't wait until after registered voters are removed from rolls, we can't wait until after the next digital failure in voting machines stops the count. Don't think for a second that 2006 went smooth. There were failures all over the place. Meanwhile the oath breakers fast track the candidate on a jet to be sworn in before the votes are even counted.
The classic 'dark ages' were not that dark just under documented on the average joe's life.
So we now have a 'dark ages 2' affair documenting the lives of the serfs under King George, a good worthy idea.

That child rape is no surprise. I'm sick about it. It's about all I can take. I know that Yoo Mother..... wrote up some thing that said a child could be tortured in front of his parents if they thought that would get them to give up their information. The funny thing is. These people don't even have information. What information have we gotten. Of course people in the third world hold grudges against America. We are number one. They are rightly pissed in other cases for our military over there or our interference in their elections, natural resources, etc. But there's no information we need from these guys that we can't get from our friends or through making friends. Our torture is simply a tactic to desensitize us to this type of depravity in my opinion. There's no reason for it. Except to control a population through fear.
We've got a fight on our hands. And I'm afraid not enough bloggers are recognizing the importance of it. We can take them out. The internet is a blessing that generations before us would have LOVED to have access to. We take it for granted.
Torture emits it's darkness from the same rotten names, that gave us such wonderful things like Iran Contra, Deathsquads, these guys are hiding in all different places in government now. Well embedded into our republic. They sit around day after day and figure out what the next trick is going to be. We can't fight them because we are always in a state of reaction. The roots of this problem is where the source can be shut off. Until we have some semblance of oversight, it just simply isn't going to be cleaned up.

Of course this is my opinion.
Yo man. That's smart. But we have the power. If enough of the citizens have a reason. (And the economy is starting to give them that.) And they can get informed. A critical mass can be reached. We can have a tipping point. An educated and unafraid populace is the worst fear of the controlling elite in the country. That's the bottom line. The more of our countrymen we can educate and inspire the better off we'll be. If we allow ourselves to get dumbed down, we deserve what we get. But the few of us here can't hold back and be afraid to talk about the truth of the matter at hand. That's what gets me down. The fight is hard enough as it is.
But educating and spreading information isn't that hard of a goal to achieve. A lot more people are wanting to know the truth. A lot more people are coming to the blogs for their news. The internet is the best thing for democracy that I've ever seen. The TV was easy to control. The internet is the real deal. Mass education unfiltered by the powers that be is possible. More people just need to be courageous.

Theres sworn testimony of one of the Iraqi prisoners who was one of the persons in those infamous pics, his evidence is redacted in places to protect the nationality of one of the torturers (the child rapist), very odd.

Yeah, things like the homegrown terrorism / blogger act, and the constant fight for net neutrality, constantly fighting the telcos/FCC for PEG programming (at your local public access), warrant-less domestic spying are not helping matters. DHS, TSA, FBI and their databases and new whatever you call it programs (I keep hearing some new program for citizen snoops every couple months now.) You know damn well they use the information politically when you have contractors rifling through Obama's passport for example.
Until one is ready to give their life for their country that the can believe in, we won't have the courage. LIES from the top most levels of government are not helping this. Another example, every time you hear something from the WH, Bush, ROVE, Cheney you can pretty much flip it and discover the truth. If the light is on, it's really turned off. If the economy is bad, it's really good. (but you know that all ready I can tell by the way you question me)

Liberals give their lives to the country every single day of the year, some do active service in mil,
some do gov jobs, some do charity work, some work in boring civilian jobs,
and most pay taxes between 20% to maybe 33% which is like spending a fifth to a third of our working week,
slaving like the proverbial pyramid builders for the godking and the state.
So YES we do give our lives for the country (and the family and the neighbors and society in general)
I'm late to this site tonight. Anyone see the Tweety show tonight with Obama? Fantastic stuff.
Sorry you guys are so down tonight. I think we all get burnt out with what's going on. It's just a constant barrage of evil. Just when you think it can't get any worse, you hear about something like this child rape story.

Yeah. We work and we pay. But we need to speak out more and educate more. Organize more and Risk more. If we are going to reverse this curse America has found itself in.
I'm watching Tweety brag on Dan Abrams' show. Dan Abrams is actually dumber than Tweety.
I used to depise Abrams, but lately he's been growing on me, although I think I tune in to get more of Rachel Maddow. She is incredibly smart and articulate. Tweety is, well, Tweety.

I lost respect for Chris Matthews, but I've gained it for Dan Abrams' lately. He has covered the Don Siegelman case very effectively. And he is learning from Keith a bit as well in his broadcast and topics. I still hold both of them in very low esteem though for not effectively carrying out their role as the Press in this country. But I also blame their owners even more.
Oranagutan said,
More people just need to be courageous.

A thought Mr. O (can I call you that?) If a large group of people knew how to do it one way to effect change, or at least get some press, would be to withhold a portion of your income tax, the part that is funding the war, and refuse to pay it. I've heard of some conscientious objectors doing this, but it's been many years and unfortunately I don't remember the details. But at least press coverage of such a protest might be helpful. The American Friends Service Committee might be of help. They helped COs during the Viet Nam war. Just a late night thought.

You're correct, of course. The owners are obviously the key, but we all know that this whole industry is a money making enterprise and ratings are what really count. I think that's why they give Keith so much latitude--his ratings the last six months are up and he's generating the almighty dollar for them. Keep in mind that Abrams is the boss of the whole crew, also, so to me it's doubly encouraging that he is starting to take some chances, as well.

I've e-mailed Abrams several times, usually about Li'l Tucker. I bought a bottle of Champagne when I heard he lost his show. There was a barrage of e-mails sent to him about Tucker and six months later he was gone. I'm not saying the e-mails did it, but that and his abysmal ratings couldn't have gone unnoticed.

Going down the withhold taxes route would be welcomed by the IRS and the RW, would give Faux a viable platform to denounce Liberals as traitors,
the IRS to seize assets, IRS agents to instigate arrests and trials by Federal tax courts (no juries btw) and much pain.
Anybody foolish enough to keep resisting would eventually end up deaded by the man, either a living death in jail or a real one.
At the end of the day theres a nice man with a gun asking for money, keep refusing to pay taxes, they will kill.
Strip away all the modern fancy democratic trappings of a western society and theres still the king's tax man and his henchmen.
Same rules apply now as 500 years ago when it comes to money and taxes owed, they will always use the 'think of the children and schools and hospitals' routine to make a tax refuser look bad, but we all know that they need our money with a feral hunger.
Money is power, money is a credit system of peoples hours working, and a way to make people work.

Thanks for that encouraging note, but the main thrust of my point was to throw an idea out for generating a protest movement to garner publicity in the media, since we were discussing media.
By the way, I heard similar arguments from my family when I applied for conscientious objector status at the height of the Viet Nam war, so I have no fear of the IRS. I follow my own path and so far it's served me quite well. Your points are well taken and kindly received, but please don't think me a naivete, for that would be a mistake.

I assume you read about his father on Wiki, then. Dan may be smarter than he appears, or at least than he lets on. Sometimes he gives me a feeling that he was a nerd at school, you know, the last kid picked to be on the team, but that's just me. I believe he's plenty smart, though, but sometimes tries so hard to fit in he steps all over himself. I think Rachel is having a soothing effect on him.
There are people doing the tax withholding, brave people.
Something to read up on and think hard about before rushing into it.
I'm not the rushing into it type. If so, I would have been killed long agol
Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to read it. I'm fairly well versed in tax protest history, but I get turned off when I discover alot of it is wing nuts who erroneously (or perhaps cynically) masquerade as libertarians. Thanks again.
Yeah woodguy. You can call me Mr. O anytime. I like your ideas.
I haven't looked into the tax strategy, but I like the work being done
by www.TrueMajority.org to get our budget under control. and of course
I liked the work of the late Aaron Russo in discussing the legality of the income tax.
I'm just more willing to push the limits of free speech and online organizing for now.

The peak oil crisis: the transition - http://www.energybulletin.net/42352.html
While waiting for the price of gasoline to get so high that we can’t afford to drive anymore, there is still some time to ponder just how the great paradigm shift of the 21st century is going to work out.
What will life be like 40 or 50 years from now? How many of the 6.6 billion of us will still be around? Will lifestyles be an all-electric version of the 20th Century or will inability to recover from rapidly falling supplies of fossil fuels leave us with qualitatively different lifestyles?
All energy comes from the sun, either directly or through the molten core of the earth. As long as the sun is in good shape, there are numerous ways to capture and exploit its energy on a sustainable basis -- solar, wind, wave, tides, biomass, and geothermal. The technology to exploit most of these resources is already well understood and new innovations, some of which just might turn out to be important, are being announced each week.
As has been discussed for many years, the key to our collective futures is whether or not the decline in the availability of fossil fuels, particularly oil, will come upon us so fast that that the earth will not have the resources -- fuel, minerals, food, organizational coherence – to effect a worldwide change from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
The necessary technology to keep the world, or at least parts of it, functioning with minimal use of fossil fuels is clearly available or in sight.

A note to Limbaugh: you may persist in hoisting the bullhorn of blather, but you're in a shrinking echo chamber. The traditional media is finally recognizing the skeptics for what they are. And, there are folks on your side of the political fence who are teaming up with Al Gore to act on climate change.
Before long, you'll be talking to yourself, Rush.
Republicans muzzle victims of credit card firms - http://pww.org/article/view/12794/
Four workers robbed by their credit card companies sat silently at recent Congressional hearings on the matter, afraid to share their horror stories with the people elected to represent them.
After long journeys to the nation’s capital from Chicago, Denver and Niagara Falls they were gagged by a GOP partisan maneuver — a demand that they sign waivers allowing their banks to discuss their private financial business publicly in any forum, at any time.
GOP Privatization of everything update: Privatizing Our Security, Wasting Our Money - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-scher/privatizing-our-security_b_9447...
Government auditors issued a scathing review yesterday of dozens of the Pentagon's biggest weapons systems, saying ships, aircraft and satellites are billions of dollars over budget and years behind schedule. The Government Accountability Office [GAO] found that 95 major systems have exceeded their original budgets by a total of $295 billion, bringing their total cost to $1.6 trillion.

A trillion dollars here, a trillion dollars there, and soon you’re talking real money. But when it comes to reporting on what the Bush war legacy has cost American taxpayers, the media have been shockingly indifferent to the highest run-up in military spending since World War II.
Even the devastating defense spending audit released Monday by the Government Accountability Office documenting the enormous waste in every single U.S. advanced weapons system failed to provoke the outrage it, and five equally scathing previous annual audits, deserved.

If these acts occurred, and we should find out pretty soon, nothing short of hanging is warranted, just like Saddam.
i have commented on here several times on this same subject! about this government haveing pictures of the child rapes at abu graib! and that thoes pics were supposed to be released to the public, to this day they have not been released! and they wont be either! these rat bastards who did such dispicable things need to be exposed and put away for thier natural lives! but as i said ive mentioned this before here but nobody seemed to give a crap because it came from an old bastard like me, my guess is that someone whos known for mispells and poor sentenceing is ignored by the im smarter then you group i went to college! types!

Look at 10 year charts of refinery stock tickers.

[Deleted. Insane-Sitemonitor]
A few reasons why gas prices are so high:
1. In 2003, Senator Carl Levin released a report detailing how, in 2002, Bush added 40 million barrels to the national reserves. He did this when the market was strong and oil supplies were tight, which increased demand and drove up prices.
What a surprise that Bush did this on the advice of Cheney's National Energy Policy group, which included Bush's campaign donors in the oil biz.
2. I'd like to know why the big oil companies, which are reaping record profits, are also receiving huge federal subsidies and tax write-offs?

With all the money we have given to Israel over the years, I wonder what would happen if we just told them to solve their own problems and let them know that no, they are not entitled to every grain of sand in their neighborhood and that they need to make nice and play fair. And if they can't do that then they are on their own since most of these problems and issues we keep getting ourselves involved in over in that little haven of the world has its root cause in our unflinching support of that one country. And I know there are looney tunes on both sides of the fence over there but we are just plain tired of playing hall monitor every time they lob rockets back in forth in the name of God or Allah.

Ron @ 58:
Didn't see you up there Ron. Hi. Hoping x will come around in the fullness of time. I've been communing with our Dark Lord at his locker room. You should drop around. Gotta run now. Catch you later.

Two Important Documents EVERYONE should read.
The Creekside Declaration
Keep The Republic
I don't know why nobody is talking about the torture memos. Are we becoming numb about this?
The feds decide to expand predator drones to the border.
Ron @ 62:
I think we're the only 5 or so people left who haven't stopped thinking about it.
L.A. Confidential @ 64:
You might be right. Now we have the information on how they justified torture, no one wants to face the reality of how it came about.
Ron @ 62:
Hell NO we ain't becoming numb about this. Hell NO. Never. All you have to do is watch TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE
Damn Damn Damn. When torturing people becomes a matter of state policy. Your state is in a god damn emergency and the niceties and politeness go out the window. You fight for your country.
The Top Ten Signs of Fascism are no joke.
Orangutan. @ 67:
Of course, I didn't think you were becoming numb to the facts of this, but is the public? We hear about it and now it seems like it must be old news. I didn;t see anything on cable news about it tonight.
Okay, here's a funny one. Not to dismiss the torture topic. But hey it's open thread.
How about the George W Bush Sewage Plant?
http://www.presidentialmemorial.org/
http://sfist.com/2008/03/31/presidential_me_1.php
If you find yourself becoming numb about it you can just watch a few YouTube clips.

And that should do it. Inspire you a bit to stand up and fight again. Never give in.
Msnbc has to stop running those creepy heritage plan commercials every night. Someone born as recently as 1968 doesn't need to be planning their funeral. Makes me want to cancel cable.
Gary Webb finally gets his own movie.
Phil @ 69:
The Sewage Plant is stupid in my opinion. Mildly humorous and funny yes, but a small victory compared to letting this man lie to us about everything from the attacks to the reasons for war. We need more than that.
It's been a long day. GN everyone.
Ron @ 68:
Yeah I know Ron. We just need to keep our energy up over here. The outrage will spread. The public is worn out, numb, and ignorant. I don't blame them. The media lies to them. People are working longer often two jobs. The powers that be make an effort to dumb us down. ETc etc. It has got to be fought back though. And us holding one hand behind our back isn't going to cut it in my opinion. This is where its got to be laid on the table. Everything.
Here's how the CFR tries to consider the media. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPlvdSQ6cAM
These people were leaders.
Orangutan. @ 75:
Get back to you tomorrow.
Just brainstorming.
Peace Ron. Be good.
Leslie @ 55:
Of course the SAbu Graib scandal took place during 2004, but the point is that thye child rapes were all covered up until now, three years later. And there are going to be talks in Congress within the next few weeks.
Phil @ 77:
That's all we can do. That right there inspired me.
Congress can't keep up with the corruption.
The courts can't keep up with the corruption.
The EI community can't keep up with the corruption.
Ordinary people working hard to stay afloat in this ruined economy are not able to keep up with the corruption.
Reading bad news can now be classified as a full time job. Yeah we are burned out.
Ron @ 66:
Biographicon aka 'The Dark Ages two' project
The classic 'dark ages' were not that dark just under documented on the average joe's life.
So we now have a 'dark ages 2' affair documenting the lives of the serfs under King George, a good worthy idea.
mystic @ 79:
Phil @ 81:
What's the EI community?
Election Integrity ala Bradblog / Blackboxvoting / Palast /etc.
arrr arrr arrr..... me as a penguineranimal.... arrr arrrr arrrr.....
what will those silly humans think of next ???
PLEASE EXCUSE ME WHILE I PULL MY HEAD OUT OF MY UNDISCLOSED LOCATION
Phil @ 86:
Phil @ 88:
Oh yeah. Totally. Up There. Extremely high and necessary priority!!!
www.BradBlog.com deserves a lot of respect. He's on my tabs.
mystic @ 79:
Theres sworn testimony of one of the Iraqi prisoners who was one of the persons in those infamous pics, his evidence is redacted in places to protect the nationality of one of the torturers (the child rapist), very odd.
Oranagutan said,
More people just need to be courageous.
(but you know that all ready I can tell by the way you question me)
ferrofluid,

Faux Noise just announced that Al Gore endorsed Obama.
I would be happy if I thought Faux knew what they were talking about, but since I don't, I'm not too excited.
It was on a segment about Obama's new pledge to give Gore a role in the White House.
Gadzooks its the Penguin Cheney, light the Bat signal.......!
always thought cheney made a good Mr. Freeze.
Phil @ 93:
I'm watching Tweety brag on Dan Abrams' show. Dan Abrams is actually dumber than Tweety.
ferrofluid @ 97:
Yeah. We work and we pay. But we need to speak out more and educate more. Organize more and Risk more. If we are going to reverse this curse America has found itself in.
Hussein in a Handbasket @ 99:
I used to depise Abrams, but lately he's been growing on me, although I think I tune in to get more of Rachel Maddow. She is incredibly smart and articulate. Tweety is, well, Tweety.
Hussein in a Handbasket @ 99:
I lost respect for Chris Matthews, but I've gained it for Dan Abrams' lately. He has covered the Don Siegelman case very effectively. And he is learning from Keith a bit as well in his broadcast and topics. I still hold both of them in very low esteem though for not effectively carrying out their role as the Press in this country. But I also blame their owners even more.
Orangutan. @ 100:
A thought Mr. O (can I call you that?) If a large group of people knew how to do it one way to effect change, or at least get some press, would be to withhold a portion of your income tax, the part that is funding the war, and refuse to pay it. I've heard of some conscientious objectors doing this, but it's been many years and unfortunately I don't remember the details. But at least press coverage of such a protest might be helpful. The American Friends Service Committee might be of help. They helped COs during the Viet Nam war. Just a late night thought.
Orangutan. @ 102:
You're correct, of course. The owners are obviously the key, but we all know that this whole industry is a money making enterprise and ratings are what really count. I think that's why they give Keith so much latitude--his ratings the last six months are up and he's generating the almighty dollar for them. Keep in mind that Abrams is the boss of the whole crew, also, so to me it's doubly encouraging that he is starting to take some chances, as well.
woodguy @ 104:
Cool. I didn't know that about Abrams. That's good news :)
woodguy @ 104:
Dan to Tweety, "that's what I love about you!"
I'm gonna be sick!
I've e-mailed Abrams several times, usually about Li'l Tucker. I bought a bottle of Champagne when I heard he lost his show. There was a barrage of e-mails sent to him about Tucker and six months later he was gone. I'm not saying the e-mails did it, but that and his abysmal ratings couldn't have gone unnoticed.
woodguy @ 103:
Money is power, money is a credit system of peoples hours working, and a way to make people work.
woodguy @ 107:
Yeah. I just looked him up on Wikipedia. That's interesting.
Hey you can't underestimate the potential of a well placed email.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22610959
ferrofluid @ 108:
Thanks for that encouraging note, but the main thrust of my point was to throw an idea out for generating a protest movement to garner publicity in the media, since we were discussing media.
By the way, I heard similar arguments from my family when I applied for conscientious objector status at the height of the Viet Nam war, so I have no fear of the IRS. I follow my own path and so far it's served me quite well. Your points are well taken and kindly received, but please don't think me a naivete, for that would be a mistake.
There are people doing the tax withholding, brave people.
Something to read up on and think hard about before rushing into it.
Orangutan. @ 109:
I assume you read about his father on Wiki, then. Dan may be smarter than he appears, or at least than he lets on. Sometimes he gives me a feeling that he was a nerd at school, you know, the last kid picked to be on the team, but that's just me. I believe he's plenty smart, though, but sometimes tries so hard to fit in he steps all over himself. I think Rachel is having a soothing effect on him.
ferrofluid @ 111:
Orangutan. @ 114:
Understood. Check the link from ferrofluid above @111. Good stuff.
woodguy @ 112:
Cool. Yeah.
ferrofluid @ 111:
Thanks very much for this link. I went over there already to check it out. Looks very interesting. I'll follow this group and see where it leads. Again, many thanks.
Things that make you go hmmm!!
7 YO kid labeled 'sex offender' which is the shocking story on MSNBC
but the far more interesting part is the quote from the principle, what could they find to report to the police every single day !
part of the DHS intel network ! school to police to DHS ! kids behavior, kids talking about home life, kids gossip, parenting info !
ferrofluid @ 118:
Nice. Innocent children's behavior=sexual harrassment=reprimand by
school authorities=police action=one kid probably screwed up for life.
Gotta go. Leaving town in two days and much to do.
Thanks, all for the lively discussions and great links.
