With freedom and justice for oil.
There are actually some other theories: the Iraq War was really fought for Gum Arabic; or to support the Yellow Ribbon manufacturers.
The war is giving us the same quality of pipes last used by the Romans.
Your tax dollars at play.
Obama still thinks we should work with Iran, rather than bomb them, for some reason.
I saw a professionally made sign across the back window of a Hummer (no not the newer smaller Hummer) that said,
"A soldier Died For Your Freedom Today"
Unfortunately he died
Not for my freedom
Not so this asshole could drive a Hummer
But
Because this asshole drives a Hummer!
American car companies are still baffled by the concept of energy-efficient vehicles.
Boy I tell ya, the more I speak with war supporters the stranger their reasoning for supporting the war(s) become. I'm still hearing the old "if we leave Iraq then they will follow us here!" When I hear that I think, what are these so called enemies? Blind mice? Do they need to follow bread crumbs or something? Because I'm pretty sure that most enemies of the United States can find the United States on a map and can simply go around or avoid the U.S. military if they so wished. It doesn't take a military genius to figure that one out.
Then, we get the old "if we leave all of Iraq will decend into chaos!" From my perspective, that is only one of many possible scenarios that could play out but no one knows for sure because no one can predict the future. For all we know and as odd as it sounds now, Iraq might decend into a vast round of clapping when the U.S. leaves. Stranger things have happened.

Obviously the solution to our economic troubles is to issue a Federal Credit Card to all Americans, that sure as heel would boost consumer spending!

America's enemies took control of the White House 7 years ago.
xoites, Yesterday I was behind a giant, obnoxious Ford Excursion . It had a big bumper sticker , "Think Green." The driver soccer mom threw her plastic water bottle out her window and hit me. I wish I had a video camera .

How much is a human life worth to a big mining company like Revett Minerals Inc owners of the Troy mine.
Revett Minerals Inc which owns Troy mines is a penny share company with dismal earnings !!!!! on record copper prices up fourfold in five years.
Just another of the many companies suffering and paying out pitiful $90,000 fines for industrial incompetence and low maintenance leading to worker deaths.

I hope an open thread is appropriate and that it's not a horribly tired question, but I've been getting about 25KB/s on crooksandliars for the last couple weeks, much slower than normal. Is this a change on crooksandliars, or am I a victim of this perfidious Comcast traffic-shaping?
SEE VIDEO and Help the antiwar efforts of Tomas Young and others
Promoting this film helps the antiwar movement. I interviewed Phil Donahue in this Representative Press Video, please help amplify his efforts and my efforts, get this video to others. It is important that good crowds show up at the theaters. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9 the movie is showing in NY and Donahue and the co-director will be there. Spread the word.
See VIDEO: See Body of War, Hear Body of War * Part 2
I want Phil Donahue's appearance in my video to have been productive so I am really trying to get this video maximum exposure.

Firefox & IE both do it even after clearing the cache. Funny thing, IE started out at 200KB+ and then quickly dropped to the same rate as Firefox. I download a wmv from Gamespot, consistent 200KB/s speed. No matter what I DL from crooksandliars, though, it quickly drops down to 25-35KB/s.
I wonder if any other Comcast users are having the same issues? Would it sound all conspiracy-theory if I were to say, "he'p me, net neutrality!"

I appreciate that, Site Monitor. But i was upset because anyone who popped in for a moment and saw what he said using my name and then left might very well have come away with an invalid impression of who i am. That is why i was upset. I am not a perfect person, but i am who i am and would hate to be mistaken for somebody else. Online what i say, right or wrong, is who i am. I am the only one qualified to be who i am and noone has a right to impersonate me in any way. That would include making me look better that who i really am. I am not angry with C&L, i just felt violated.

I don't want to piss anyone off, but I don't think there is a shortage of oil. In my humble opinion, they create the illusion of a shortage to raise the prices. Think about it. Canada has trillions in just what they know now. Venezuela, the same. Corporate oil companies are controlling everything.
xoites defends Constitution @ 66:
Or Fat Freddy's Cat?
Mad was a highly subversive magazine back in the sixties. Bill Gaines taught a whole generation of kids to question authority.
Glad to see you back as well, xoites. I haven't been around as much as usual meself, being as I moved to NZ and then my life kinda went kablooie for a bit, my computer is throwing wobblies as well, and my internet connections are intermittent to say the least.
I don't think anyone's ever tried to impersonate me on C&L. I'm not sure if I feel insulted or not...

Paul's Bunions @ 68:

"Don't worry about it! There's millions more where they came from!"
nonny mouse @ 70:
Nonny Mouse!!!
Hi! :)
How are you?
Brangdon @ 48:
I use the FFox2 and thru the Download Manager. FFox2 still has some 'memory leak' issues, ie. when you clique a lot and fast (I go always in 10 tabs simultaneously), even with cache cleaning it gets slow. Am told FFox 3 is better w/this, but it still is in 'beta' stage. Am waiting for the smoke signal from my comp-doc, who told me to wait a little longer w/ a switch.
My ISP has a speed test on their website - I usually do the F-16s top-gunning, and when it's done, one gets the bar chart speed comparison. It does get very slow when their demented eagle 'improves' whatever (or, NSA becomes a remora). I have to call then and share my speed-test results w/them. Usually they tweak it up for my particular account - I cannot do much if it goes lower than ~60KB/s.
ferrofluid @ 58:
And I still remember the 300 Baud days and BBS's.
nonny mouse @ 70:
You kinda missed the April 1 fun. P2B got me dead to rights by impersonating a few regulars. I hope you'll forgive xoites cause I'm trying to persuade him to return. You've got to admit the sob has a sense of humor and he keeps our noble site monitors on their toes.
CappuccettoRosso @ 74:
You call the NSA? This conversation is done.
StirFry @ 75:
300 Baud. I tried to start a game company back in 1983 but we could not afford a 5 mb hard drive because it cost 2500 bucks. I went into Best Buy yesterday and they are selling one terabyte hard drives for $219.
I was friends with Gilbert Shelton when I lived in Paris, far as I know he and his wife are still there. He gave me my first FFC comic, which actually wasn't a FFC, it was the War of the Cockroaches, brilliant. But I'm definitely a Fat Freddy's Cat fan, big time.
Just an update on the download-speed issue: I spoke to friends in town who have Comcast, and others who have other ISPs. Comcast: 2 other people, 25KB/s. FIOS: 1250KB/s. Immediately drops as soon as people initiate connections, from a reasonable speed to that same low throughput.
And just to rule out what xoites mentioned, I get great download speeds on other sites of the same file type (wmv) but slow speeds from crooksandliars on all file types. Speed tests give me great download speeds from multiple servers, at least 1MB/s. I can maintain traffic at much higher speeds from other domains. And like I said, every download, only from this site, for a couple of weeks straight.
I'm a network guy professionally, and it seems like a pretty safe bet to me that Comcast, at least in Portland, OR, is (not necessarily for political reasons, of course) specifically shaping traffic from crooksandliars.

hi nonny thier was a poster called anonnymouse here for a while!
tyree @ 82:
Tyree, no one could ever replace you, so don't go anywhere. :)
tyree @ 82:
I have always liked your spelling, LOL.
Hey-up, xoites. Been long enough that a lot of the old names seem to have rode off into the sunset...
Seems like only yesterday I was blathering on about applying for a Master's programme, worrying about being accepted. Did it, got the degree, moved to New Zealand. Now I'm applying to a PhD programme here, just doing the paperwork now, then go for a scholarship. My supervisor likes my proposed thesis. So I'm aiming to educate myself right out of any realistic job market, be Dr Hamburger Flipper, PhD soon.
But New Zealand is lovely, been the longest, most gorgeous summer of my life, swimming in the bays of Auckland, travelling around the North Island. If your life is going to go kablooie, this is the place for it to happen, damnsure.
So how's by you?
xoites defends Constitution @ 84:
ok not planning on going xo for a while anyways!
hey-up, tyree! Good to see the Old Man is still around and kicking. :)
Ron @ 85:
famouse for it!!!!!! my trade marks screwing up words , you got to admit most of them could have been spelled that way!

Uh-huh. I haven't been expecting it for years. How long to I have to not expect it before it happens?

Rednecks, evangelicals and the ADL would be moaning how "They're taking over our country and destroying our morals".
But since they're not, it gets a short mention. A blip here, a sentence there.
nonny mouse @ 98:
I was alone for over a decade. My ex roomate, Paul who i knew since 1985 only had on brief relationship back in the early 1990's and has finally found his mate as well, also online. He now lives in New Mexico.
Brangdon @ 80:
I'd be surprised. If it's only happening at one site, it's probably that site.
I just did a download exercise...I did the left click download (Open w/ wmv) and It started up with 855 KB and by the middle of the download, I'd dropped to 74 finally to 19 kb. and it took several minutes to download. I downloaded again using my download manager, Flashget, aided by the Firefox plugin Flashgot, and the download smoked in at an amazing 12,330 KB as the window closed 30 seconds or less later.
xoites defends Constitution @ 97:
I'm never expecting it. and it never happens. And when I don't want it to happen, it's absolutely the wrong person. And when I want it to happen, he never even knows I'm alive...
:(
But I'm happy when other people find it.
Ron @ 77:
No worry Ron - just my ISP. And, they are NOT the NSA. Although my Euro/Oz contacts tell me they always hear 'funny noises' when we use the phones, which I don't hear on my side - and my hearing is pretty good ! These phone line 'noises' happen w/quite a few countries. Since 9/11 though most of my neighbors report much slower NET connections via anything, and also phone line funnies in overseas calls (we R in NYC, 400 unit hi-rise, neighbors from ~ 40 countries, we lost a few in the WTC, where I also was for many yrs).
Since we have also families from Tibet, with the torch propaganda fiasco, Chinese must have a special line to our bldg as well by now.
Unless they have a time-share w/ NSA.
Am very glad SF started the Chinese torch (NOT Olympic..) welcome yesterday w/Free Tibet banners on Golden Gate Bdge. We cannot be worse than Brits and dear Frenchies - even the mayor of Paris 'decorated' the Paris City Hall with banner announcing that Paris supports LIBERTE everywhere. Chinese thugs in blue tracksuits extinguished the torch, got on the bus ... Good riddance ..
So, can we expect to have Alan Shore's closing argument (from tonight's Boston Legal) posted tomorrow? I really enjoyed it.
For those who didn't see it, he railed against the modern "news" industry, and how it's more infotainment. The intersection of entertainment and information. The evolution of the news division into a profit center. And even referenced Network.
Kafka @ 102:
It has been all over the news. Even someone like myself who avoids the sexy lurid stories like the plague heard it six or seven times.
miss_kitty Hussein @ 105:
Come to our wedding and maybe you will meet someone. You will certainly meet us! LOL :)
tyree @ 89:
We all get you all right - so keep on spelling your way !! And, troll hunting ..
CappuccettoRosso @ 110:
I loves me trolls. :)
Jealousy may not be a virtue, but I've never made any claims to being virtuous. And to the future Mrs Xoites, you go, girl. Gives the rest of us hope.
In all honesty, I don't really care that much. I'm far more focused on... well... ME... to worry about it. My desire to find True Love is well down on the list at the moment, behind Get a PhD, Find a Job I Like, Sell More Books, Buy a Nice Bit of Land Somewhere in NZ, Build a House On It, Live Happily Ever After Into Eccentric Old Age. Maybe have a cat again. Oh, and a boat, definitely want a little 21 foot yacht. And I so want to place in one of the dance competitions, I hanker madly after one of those tacky plastic trophies.
True Love? Eh.
Maybe C&L should have a Lonely Hearts link like Trademe.co.nz, I can see the ads now...
'Short, miopic, unwashed SM with GSH, NS (except occasional dope), lives with mother in basement, seeks SW with Pamela Anderson breasts and Ann Coulter morals. Must like hairy palms and speak fluent Klingon.'
miss_kitty Hussein @ 105:
Miss Kitty, you know where I live. No excuses.
Miss Kitty@104 I don't use Flashget or Flashgot but it sounds like they would be well worth trying. Any downsides I should know about.
nonny mouse @ 112:
Lonely Hearts? I don't think so. But where else could i find a woman as stuborn as me, as radical as me, as athiest as me?
"Leftist male, serious beer drinker, cigarette smoker, (occasional farter), with a penchant for saying rude and abtuse things to trolls online for hours on end seeks Radical Athiest for lifelong struggle paying bills."
Yeah that would work... LOL :)
Yeah. I supplied the wiki link for that-if you get the free version, you have to allow a bit of tracking ware on your computer. I deleted it once after a spybot and adaware scan found it and it quit working. So I allow it. Some people consider it spy ware. When I get rich, I'll buy the damn thing and be done with it. There are other download managers out there.
What they do is strip the file into different parts and load the parts simultaneously. Flashget is set at 5 as a default, but you can change that number...
xoites defends Constitution @ 115:
Soundsalmost like me.
Ron @ 113:
And I have a crush on someone who I suspect doesn't know I'm alive. But hope springs eternal.
miss_kitty Hussein @ 118:
I have a crush on a lady in Oregon, but I often wonder if we will ever get it together. We're more like best friends.
Ron @ 119:
That settles it. You are both invited to my wedding. :)
Ron and Miss Kitty - sheesh, the two of you, go get a room already.
xoites defends Constitution @ 120:
Let meme know. I would love to come if I can afford to.
xoites defends Constitution @ 111:
X - congrats to you both! Better ask Mrs. X- to-be before you start inviting the C&L-ers .. She might have a diff idea.. ;) The happening might get much tooo big, even w/out the trolls ..
Ron @ 122:
I will, we will work something out. :)
Thank God for Blogging... The Dangers of Being a Television News Reporter
nonny mouse @ 121:
I know thay I can't afford to go to New Zealand.
miss_kitty Hussein @ 118:
I shall implore The Flying Spaghetti Monster to intercede on your behalf. As an atheist it's the best I can do.
CappuccettoRosso @ 123:
I already have. We want to have the wedding outdoors and we want to rent a honeymoon suite in a Las Vegas Casino for the reception so everyone can drink as much as they want and sleep over very safely. (We of course will have our honeymoon elsewhere.)
Peter G @ 127:
Does he do weddings? We need a non minister of some sort.
Best wishes to you and your intended Xoites. Signing off. GNA.
Ooo, Flying Spaghetti Monster! Need to finish crocheting the sacred hat...
http://www.phobe.com/fsmhat/index.html
xoites defends Constitution @ 129:
Maybe Dawkins or P.Z. Myers. At least the ceremony would be rational. The reception might involve altered states.
nonny mouse @ 131:
Whoever marries us HAS TO wear one of those!
Peter G @ 132:
Now if i could get Dawkins to marry us that would blow enough minds to be worth it.
xoites defends Constitution @ 128:
Sounds very good - outdoor weddings are really lovely and free-flowing (not stuffy), and thanks for the clarification: "We of course will have our honeymoon elsewhere." - you better !!
xoites defends Constitution @ 134:
If i offered enough alcohol i bet i would have a pretty good chance.
It never rains here. I mean it never rains here. An outdoor wedding here is a lock.
miss_kitty Hussein @ 118:
Of course you would have to sign a prenuptial. I wouldn't want you to have to pay off all my debt if I move on.
Ron @ 138:
You will die a batcheoler
xoites defends Constitution @ 139:
LOL!
Here is a better idea, Ron. Why don't you agree to get your mate out of debt. Keep your money seperate and go into bancruptcey if you have to? Then if you have enough time you can deal with your debt.
xoites defends Constitution @ 141:
I'm thinking, I'm thinking, if there is a will, there is a way.
My idea of a prenuptiual agreement is we agree to not sleep around. We agree to be there when times suck. We agree to vote our concience. Agree to tell each other when we screw up and when we do it right. Encourage each other to forgive our shortcomings and seek ways to be better at what we do and to find out what we can do that we have never done. We agree to smile. :)
xoites defends Constitution @ 143:
Sounds almost Christian. Real Christian.
Orangutan. @ 125:
Okay, now that was funny.
Ron @ 144:
I was raised a Catholic, Ron. You know that. There is nothing about being a true Christian i don't agree with outside of believing there is a God. The myth of Christ being the Son of God is what convinces people that they can't ever become "Christ Like" because they can't be "God." So instead they "sin." Some people are so whacked out about the whole concept they think good can't exist without evil, so they decide being evil somehow creates good.
Religion is a big mind fuck.
We inherintly know when we are doing the right thing, all we have to do is try to do it.
xoites defends Constitution @ 146:
Well spoken. Almost God Like.
Ron @ 144:
Sounds great - I hope Mrs. X-to-be will read this post to 'hear' it again.
There is nothing wrong w/being Christian - it's American religiosity (not religion..) that really sux. And, it does not exist so messed up anywhere else on Earth. No evangelicals, no mormon compunds w/ 400 children 'shared' by all (in XXI century !!), no Bible belts, and whatever else.. Occasional nuts -yes, everywhere, but we ARE # 1 for sure in this category.
Good night all.
Ron @ 147:
Actually i am still working on being human. It takes a lifetime, which is why i think most people want to believe there is more to come afterward.
