Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed responded to Republicans who can't seem to keep his name out of their mouths while they run around trying to energize their base in red states across the country.
El-Sayed made an appearance on this Thursday's The Beat with Ari Melber, and after they discussed the recent polling that shows El-Sayed ahead of former Congressman Mike Rogers and what voters are telling him, Melber played some clips of House Speaker Mike Johnson, VP JD Vance and Rogers attacking him while campaigning for Republicans on other states.
Melber asked El-Sayed why they were so focused on him even on races that are out of state, and El-Sayed responded with a couple of new nicknames for Vance and Rogers, and explaining why they're appropriate.
EL-SAYED: Ah... Low-T JD. It's always funny, man. He just brings the energy down every time you hear him talk.
Look, the reality of it is that they want to distract you. They want to distract you from the issues at hand. They want to talk about me and my name as if me and my name are causing the problems. They are not.
The problems are, in fact, caused by their boss, Donald Trump, who they cannot deviate from because, of course, he rules their party with an iron fist.
They don't want to talk about gas prices that are $5 a gallon here. They don't want to talk about groceries, where people are trying to skimp on things like ground beef for their kids. They don't want to talk about seeing a doctor, which is getting harder and harder to do.
They don't want to talk about the ways that the corporations are buying folks off in their party. They don't want to talk about how Donald Trump Jr. and his brother are making money off of Donald Trump's presidency.
They don't want talk about any of those things. Instead, they want to point to me. And they think that that distraction is going to last long enough.
The reality is, when they point to me, all I'm going be talking about is getting money out of politics, putting money in your pocket, passing Medicare-for-All. And I think people like that message, so I think it's backfiring.
MELBER: Well, I hear you doing a couple things. One is saying, let's look at the economy, which we've done a lot on this program. And I'll add some facts to what you referenced.
Gas prices are up nationally, as we know, under this administration. And in Michigan, they're about $4.50, as you and voters there know. The inflation in the second Trump term, the high prices that he said he would somehow fix when he ran last time, are not fixed, as you referenced. So those are those facts.
But you also kind of punch back. You said low-T with regard to the vice president. I believe you're saying he has somehow low testosterone, in your view. You've called your Republican opponent a, quote, beta. What are you doing there? Are you saying they are literally less manly or they have less manly policies? Explain it to us.
EL-SAYED: That's between them and the people around them. I'm just saying that they like to lead on strength, but I don't see much strength there.
Strength is about being able to stand up to the problem. The problem is Donald Trump, and you don't see much standing up to Donald Trump.
Strength is not about punching down. Strength is about being willing to step up and fight on the issues that matter. Across my state, across this country, people can't afford their gas. That's because of Donald Trump. People can't afford their groceries. That's because of Donald Trump. People can't see a doctor. That's also because of Donald Trump.
And these folks want to parade around like they're some kind of strong... but they are so meek and so weak. Mike Rogers, Meek Rogers, you know, doesn't really want to say anything in response to Donald Trump's ridiculous policies that the 10 million people in this state whose votes he's asking for are suffering under.
So look, you know, I just think it's important for us to point out the clear hypocrisy about the way they present themselves and then the way they actually behave when it comes to the problems that Michiganders are facing.
El-Sayed responds to JD Vance clip: Low T JD. It's always funny, man. He just brings the energy down every time you hear him talk.
People want someone who is going to punch back against these bullies.
