Michelle Obama on The Colbert Report
By SilentPatriot Tuesday Apr 15, 2008 2:20pm
Barack Obama's wife Michelle joined Stephen last night in Pennsylvania to talk about the presidential race and to review some of the artwork he's received from children around the country.

His head has handles?!? hahahaha Colbert is hysterical.
She's kinda tough...and not in a bs way. I like that a lot....
I think she's great.
Oh my god!
She obviously hates America if she was on Colberts show! *snark, off*
I like her because she seems to be the exact opposite of Laura Bush in every way imaginable, except that they are both female. Oops, Laura is an android. As I said, opposite in every way imaginable....
I loved those pictures of Obama that the children drew. I liked all of them. The last one reminded me of and resembled drawings used in the old Fat Albert and the Cosby kids cartoon that I used to watch. lol
On a more serious note, Michelle Obama would make a fine addition to the White House as well. You can just see that she is full of ideas and strong opinions. She definitely would be a great first lady and Obama, a great President.
Oh shoot! That didn't have the part about the spoons in it. He said something like we know you are elitist and were born with a silver spoon. She said, yes growing up my family had spoons. He asked how many and she said we had four spoons. Then he began to talk and she interrupted and said when my dad got a raise we bought another spoon. She played it so cool and so damned funny.
I like her and the way she handles herself. She has a good sense of humor and will laugh when things are funny. She doesn't seem so programed like Laura.
Let's settle the election with hot wrestling between the potential First Ladies!
Now this is what I call a First Lady: smart, witty, able to take care of herself in the spot light, and a total babe. Rawr!
CLASSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! personified!!
pissed off patricia @ 7:
She obviously has never been to Stepford.
I've got this picture in my head of Barack, Michelle and their two little girls up on the stage smiling and clapping and celebrating Obama's win as president of the United States. And I will be at home in my nightie smiling and dancing and celebrating right along with them.
Please let that picture become reality.
Michelle is very classy!
Thanks Pissed Off Patricia for the spoon jokes. Hilarious.
Bitter Leslie Hussein @ 13:
I wish C&L could get that clip, they played it on morning joe this morning. Even that early in the day, it was funny as hell to watch.
SP, no offense, but please consider rephrasing when speaking of someone's wife, eg, "Barack Obama’s wife Michelle joined Stephen..." into "Michelle Obama, Barack's wife, joined Stephen..."
Thanks.
Classy hot wrestling?
When she made the statement she had nothing to be proud of this country for til her husband started to run for the presidency she lost me and any respect I would ever ever ever have for her.
With all the sacrifices in this country made for the civil rights of black people she has the nerve, the absolute nerve to say something like that. She takes all the advantages given to blacks in this country and says something like that.
It makes me puke to think she might get to be in the whitehouse...how obama stands her goodness only knows.
Is it wrong i think she is a MILF?
Marge @ 17:
You might want to rethink some of the things you said about the "sacrifices". Or better yet, elaborate on them a bit. I'm sure some here are a bit curious.
So that uppity woman isn't grateful enough for you????
"Given to blacks"... WTF you make it sound like a gift, not a right.
Anyway, you have misquoted her.
Marge @ 17:
Marge @ 17:
jesus she makes one statement and you hate her.
you must not have many friends. And you must puke on an extremely regular basis.
Michael @ 18:
you mean, FLILF.
Marge @ 17:
This is sarcasm right? If not then WOW your just stupid.
Marge #17
Shut up and get back in the kitchen! Where's my dinner? DOH!
Marge @ 17:
you're not black are you ?
miss_kitty @ 21:
Yep, and I would suggest looking for the world's largest barf-bag, because I'm thinking you might just have four to eight years of puking coming up.
She is so charming, and very cute. Barack is a lucky man in so many ways...I really like her too...
Chico Hussein @ 25:
You don't have to be black to be offended by such blatant stupidity...
Gee, she don't seem like such an elitest America hating anti-christ to me... She's actually seems pretty normal and looks like a hottie... What am I missin here??? JD
Chico Hussein @ 22:
lol . . . i too couldn't help but notice the gams on her. it could be a wonderful 8 years. on so many levels.
marge . . . get a life. or a stronger stomach. actually, both.
Michael @ 18:
She'll be the First MILF.
Marge @ 17:
Spin much? Maybe you ought to go back and look at the context and actual footage. She never said she had never been proud of the US. Right now, with a black man and a woman running for POTUS, she is really proud of her country. That she said "first time in my life" I chalk up to exuberance.
Maybe you haven't had any experience with exuberance, given your candidate preference.
It's the first time in 7 1/2 years that I have been proud of my country. I've been embarrassed and bitter since the 2000 fiasco.
Chico Hussein @ 22:
You PFLILF!
And if that's wrong, lawd help me, I don't wanna be right!
Jack Damage @ 29:
She is an elitist. Remember, this is the Bizzarro World now.
I'm going to enjoy seeing Michelle walking to and from the helicopter with President Obama! My demographic is I'm a 68 year old retired lady. I don't know why polls say older people are voting for Hillary. My 86 year old mother is voting for Obama, along with many of her elderly women friends.
I loved seeing Michelle last night and I will be very proud of her when she's our First Lady!
I actually admire her. Wow, when was the last time I said that about a potential first lady?
Ann Coulter's perineum @ 8:
I don't know if you have the worst name ever or the best.
I've never had much of a thing for black women (Asians!!), but Michelle Obama brings to mind thoughts of the teacher whom you respect and wish that she would make you stay after school. I think she'd be smart and influential like former first lady Clinton, except she'd come with a personality.
"Hussein" Bookworm @ 28:
True, but you do have to be black to understand at an intricate level that the 'advantages' given to blacks in this country are far and few in between.
it makes me puke that a braindead moron has been in the whitehouse for the last 8 years. none of us should be proud of what's happened in the last 8 years.
Putin@34;
Well, ya got the bizzarro world part spot on.. no denyin that...dunno bout the rest. I'll chalk it up to a fine dry Colbert-like humor..... JD
Jack Damage @ 29:
Geeez Jack!
Don't watch faux noose!?!First of all, she black, she's a woman, and she's very smart! Be afraid! Be very afraid! If she gets in the white house, next thing ya know, all children will be born nekkid! Dogs and cats will be LIVING together! A gay man will be sent to the moon. And they'll force southern white men to eat chit'lins!
Marge @ 17:
You seem to have gotten your twisted version of what she said straight from Billo -
Here is what she really said:
"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."
Also, how many "advantages" have you personally given "blacks"? How many sacrifices have you made on behalf of any minority? (watching "Cosby" on the teevee doesn't count)
Jusker @ 32:
Yeah, you and the other non-idiots.
Please don't feed the trolls.
Nice little round of applause for "my husband will be the next President" at the end there...almost the exact opposite of the round of applause heard when Tweety started musing a Senate run in '12 on the Report the night before...I think I heard a cricket cough after that little stunner...
I've never heard someone say so much without actually saying anything...no wait, I lie - I forgot about her husband.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty sick of the Obama talking points. What the hell would he actually DO, should he win?
idiot marge sure got good mileage out that p.o.s. comment...
i never understand why really dumb stuff is copied... never...
...
saw this last night... most excellent...
and stephen just couldn't be a bad boy at all... i think he's smitten...
"jackie o" is one helluvs complement!
Jack Damage @ 40:
Yeah, Jack. I like to get my Colbert on sometimes...LOL
She's a babe.
Chico Hussein @ 38:
That might be true... can't say. I'm white. And Canadian. And very very much looking forward to Barack Obama in your White House (I'm an avid follower of American politics and a lover of your Constitution. Some day soon you'll get it back intact).
Watch Obama play hoops!
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video_log/2008/04/obama_on_real_sports....
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 41:
Uh...I meant to say "Don't you watch faux noose!?!"
Marge @ 17:
Yes, blacks really should be more grateful to whites for two hundred years of slavery and decades of Jim Crow. It's not as if they had to fight for civil rights or anything during the 60s either.
Marge @ 17:
It makes me puke when someone pretends to be a democrat and refers to the democratic party as the democrat party. It's not even proper English.
Ann Coulter's perineum @ 8:
Nice screen name!
Chico Hussein @ 22:
You beat me to it! DAMN YOU!!...............;)
Chico Hussein @ 22:
"Hussein" Bookworm @ 49:
Thanks there, Bookworm! I'm a caucasoidal Amerkan, and I hope we get Obama in the WH, AND get the constitution back on the same day!
Chico Hussein @ 38:
Sounds to me like Marge is a Bill O minion. Marge were you as surprised as Bill that they have their own restaurants now? Why don't you pack up your GOP talking points and call it a day. Go home and get freaky with a falafel or something.
Michael @ 18:
I would even vote her as best looking first lady, second only to Jackie Kennedy
"Hussein" Bookworm @ 49:
Well, I'm white too.
but NOT Canadian.
PHEW !
Just kiddin' Canada, you guys are gr-EH-t !
RayC @ 23:
It's the latter.
Lib H@41;
Gee, I guess I am out of touch.. I thought all that stuff already happened, silly me... You mean they haint up and shot all the gays off to the moon yet??? Whoa, I really do need to get out more... And it's true, I plead guilty yeroner.... I really don't watch faux all that much... The football package is about alls I can stands without me tummy startin to get queeezy... And I still think she's a hottie. Maybe I need a shrink??? Hmmmm JD
Ann Coulter's perineum @ 8:
That means Bill wrestling with Michelle. Someone's getting the better end of that deal.
JD @ 50:
Thank you so much for that link. I enjoyed watching every minute of it. That was fun!
Marge @ 17:
Marge you answered my question to you from another thread....you really ARE related to another ignorant, totally misinformed bigot, Abob!!
pissed off patricia @ 64:
Me too. It's hard not to like the guy. It was a great interview. Hope more people will see it and get a better idea of who Obama is and where he comes from.
Marge @ 17:
Man, I can feel the love from here. The country sacrificed sheets for the KKK, rope for lynchings, gasoline for churches and bullets for shootings during that whole equality movement thing. That was very generous. Tell your Dad the Black community would like to thank him.
Well, I went off on a tangent, back to my point . . .I don't believe Michelle actually made a mention of race in the speech you mention, but yet here you are injecting it.
Yes, I'm quoting a stupid inflammatory idiot, but I can't help it.
Wow, I am incredibly impressed with Michelle.
She is a human being. Funny, smart, and not hard to look at.
Compared to Bush's stepford medically lobotomized prop, or McCain's trollop-trophy body-snatched wife, or Bitterly Clinton.... all I can say is wow!
I want to vote for Michelle now!
JD @ 66:
If you haven't yet, read his first book. You find out all sort of things about the way he thinks, the way he makes decisions and the experiences he had growing up. He's had a very unique life, which I believe makes him a uniquely good guy.
She'd be the closest thing we'd have to Jackie Kennedy, only more independent, smarter, and she probably has her own non-plagiarized recipes too.
gemHusseinpei @ 63:
I don't think it will be Bill! He won't enjoy it as much as he thinks he might.
Marge @ 17:
Do you know how many American children risked their lives, faced water hoses, vicious dogs(not you Marge), violent policemen and citizens to get those rights? Were you down south at the time? And what do you mean "this country"? Many noble and decent people did indeed help us black folks, but I'm sure from your comments you weren't one of them.
JD @ 50:
Very cool. Obama IS like a breath of fresh air.
momly @ 71:
Particularly if Hillary is keeping tabs on him.
American Idol election.
How bout some substance.
Michelle's honeymoon in the White House will end quickly as an American public extremely ticked off by its startling, sudden impoverishment begins demanding action, change, and RESULTS.
Thats for sure.
r @ 5:
Laura was brought up to be the perfect upperclass neocon wife -- rarely seen and almost never heard, except on issues dealing with children and women.
LAC - are you implying Shillary is the answer?
Nick @ 45:
You could not be more right on the money. These glassy-eyed, slack-jawed Obama sheeple remind me of the GWB supporters. The GWB and Obama supporters will follow them just on their say so....classic is Obama and GWB saying Do as I say, not as I do as this seems to be the way it works. Obama still has to show any substance on anything.
Whining and playing a victim makes me all the more sure I do not want this guy in the WH. As for his supporters, they are all over the blogs spouting vile spew about Clinton 24/7. You would not know they are dems because they are acting like Lil Roves, iterating and reiterating untruths and whatever they choose because they feel that eventually something will stick. Geraldine Ferraro said it and it is true, Obama would not be where he is if he wasn't black. Shocking, but true.
And the pandering by Barry and Shelly is shameless. Michelle must have been on her best behavior as she is prone to going ghetto at the most inopportune times.
Keep "Bradley Effect" in mind.
katie @ 70:
[Deleted. No need for racially driven invective. Any more of the same will get you an E ticket off this board. Thanks for understanding-Sitemonitor]
Dr. Acula @ 78:
Nope. I just get extremely annoyed when people look at someone and go "Oh my God! She's going to be the answer to all our problems!"
PssttCmere @ 79:
Pfffffffffft. Thanks for playing.
She's way smart, and a FLILF. Respectfully, of course.
PssttCmere @ 79:
If you aren't too racist to give Obama a chance, check out his website. He has all of his policy ideas under "issues" on the index page.
"Ghetto"? "Bradley Effect"? Please.
PssttCmere @ 80:
Ghetto Mama....damn.LOL
If anyone says anything against this great American patriot and future first lady, they are simply bigots!
I suspect within the first six months of Obama being in the White House reality will mug his support base and their idealism. He's not telling his people what he's really going to have to do and what is going to be required because his base would abandon him tomorrow if he did.
L.A. Confidential @ 76:
'RESULTS' that the American people mysteriously never demanded from Bush II - who made them impoverished with his $3 trillion war and tax cuts for the rich - over the last 7+ years, while racking up 50% of America's $9 trillion national debt?
Please, spare us your false earnestness.
Why not write yourself in as a third party candidate, since you've obviously already got all the answers. If you have the fortitude for politics, more power to you. If not...
pete @ 68:
All a politician has to do is crack jokes, smile and pretend to relate with the little guys. After that we're putty in their hands and could care less about fancy things like 'foreign policies' or 'Commissions Reports' or 'Constitutions'
Sickening.
Lisa Williamson @ 87:
Are people expecting free money or something with no work and effort required? When Obama says your going to have to work even if it means picking vegetables or gutting chickens to help get this country back on track yes your going to have to get involved with the system you despise and yes your going to have to grow up and start thinking about a career that helps the country.
What else is he going to do?
She looks cunning.
America's infrastructure is falling apart due to lack of maintenance and funding. Bridges falling apart, roads crumbling, sewer systems collapsing, steam lines exploding etc. You can't watch TV, and surf and blackberry your the young generation of Americans that has to "get with it". It ain't going to fix itself.
What they going to say when he says that?
Ann Coulter's perineum @ 8:
Now there's proposal Bill could get into!!! ;)
L.A. Confidential @ 86:
People were writing off the 1st Clinton term in late '93... I think that's how it works; you get elected, and when people find out you can't walk on water, they're disappointed.
I seem to recall Bush was considered a genial moron up until 9/11... fortunately that's again the prevailing opinion.
Marge @ 17:
Then go vote for McInsane if that's the way you feel. Jesus Christ! Give that fucking talking point a rest already. Maybe you should just call up your buddy, Bill O'Reilly and see if he's still trying to put together that "lynching party". Do whatever the fuck you want, just give the rest of us a break from that "Michelle Obama is ashamed of America" bullshit.
L.A. Confidential @ 86:
Oh, so you are either;
1. a psychic, (who can foretell the future-what other historical events have you correctly predicted?),
2. Barack Obamas BFF or therapist (someone he confides in all the time), or
3. you have his whole lifetime of his conversations bugged-are you a Telecom executive with access to Obamas private conversations?
Or are you just an idiot trafficking in innuendo and fear, buddy?
Obama does state, in detail, what will be required to change the way government does business in DC. It requires that the people themselves get involved, Obama does not tell them it will be easy.
shano @ 95:
I can tell your completely and totally politically naive. But you'll learn.
god she's fine
dobbsy @ 98:
She's already taken. And probably too mature for you anyway.
L.A. Confidential @ 97:
I c'an te'll 'you're k'eybo'ard do'esn't 'ha've an' ap'ostr'ophe k'ey.
She is bright and articulate and I feel the same way Marge #17 feels.
Last week she implied that we are a nation of insolated, lazy, and apathetic people who her husband will not allow us to be when he is president.
She complains about how difficult it is when you have to spend $10,000 on ballet and piano lessons for the girls.
She complains that the organic foods they eat cost too much.
She is right. Organic foods are too expensive. But most of the poor, black/white/ brown people I work with don't even have access to it in their neighborhood Aldi stores.
I saw her speak at a Trumpet dinner and she darn near condemned white folk for being white.
I am tired of having her shoved down my throat because she is young, attractive, and articulate.
What she has had to say has not been attractive nor has it been pretty. She isn't drawing me to her Unity, Hope and Transparancy party.
Now, if only Obama picks Kucinich as his VP, then we'd have the hottest first ladies of all time!!
He started out the interview saying something like 'Tells us about your elitist upbringing in Chicago's south side'. LOL
A few months ago, before our pathetic media started to go wild, hitting Obama ad nauseum on things that, lo and behold, most people don't see as problems, The New Yorker magazine did a profile on Michelle. She talked to that reporter about their church and pastor (this was before the blitz). She gave info on her childhood, her fortunate paths to work and career, meeting Barack and loving her kids. This family is so far from the current national joke residents at 1600.
I am getting pretty old, but I will be dancing with you pissed off Patricia @ 12 !
She is going to be an excellent first lady. I can't wait until 2009.
Nick @ 45:
Right, Nick. Because you were expecting the extending policy discussions the other candidates spouses always give on comedy talk shows.
Tool.
Senator Obama seems to view ordinary Americans as bitter, often broken, small-minded objects of pity rather than anger, ostensibly in need of instruction from — you guessed it — Barack Obama. The words of Michelle Obama are worth recalling in this context. She has spoken about her husband pushing us out of our “comfort zones,” saying “Barack knows at some level there is a hole in our souls” and “Barack is the only person in this race who understands that before we can work on the problems as a nation, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.”
This is the Politics of Meaning on steroids. If one views Americans as fundamentally needy children rather than competent citizens, one embraces the precepts of the nanny state — the state that (in Margaret Thatcher’s memorable phrase) takes too much from you in order to do too much for you. This provides an enormous opening for Senator McCain, who can frame this election as pitting a candidate who believes in self-government, against a candidate who believes in the nanny state.
Barach is wearing his US flag pin again... treasonous creep.
PssttCmere @ 79:
Nice way to illustrate your own point.
I would LOVE to have Michelle Obama as First Lady. It might make me proud once more of this country in spite of the fact that we haven't impeached the criminals currently running it.
leslie @ 101:
Who cares ? So you're a bigot. What else is new in America?
Personally, I do not like her. I think she has alot of pent up anger. I did not care for her speech last night, nor do i care for her statement that this is the first time she is proud to be American? Wow!!!
pissed off patricia @ 14:
I think I saw the whole thing on HuffPo, spoons and all.
CalGal @ 35:
My wife and I are 65 and 67. There will be lots to celebrate with the Obamas. We plan to watch the convention from day one to the end, and then as PO'd Pat says, we will wait up until McCain concedes in November, and come January 9, Obama is going to give one of the greatest inauguration speeches ever and hopefully all the galas and balls will be on tv for us to join in on in our jammies.
leslie @ 101:
Hey, you have something to say, then use your own name to say it. You are not me!!!!
Where's the moderator?
[She's using a lower case version-Sitemonitor]
JM @ 93:
Haha, I get it! Because he's a fun-loving guy who has a shaky past with women!
Michelle Obama was the first person from any of the campaigns to throw out the Race Card. And it was a big one.
Mainstream media would prefer you didn't remember this and instead focus on Bill Clinton's "Jesse Jackson" response months later to the fact that Obama's campaign had worked very hard to characterize him as the candidate for "black America".
On a nationally televised MSNBC interview in November:
-------------------------
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2007/11/12/michelle-obama-...
November 12, 2007
...MIKA BRZEZINSKI: The polls are showing your husband is trailing Hillary by 46% to 37% in the African-American community. What's going on here?
MICHELLE OBAMA: First of all, I think that that's not going to hold. I'm completely confident: black America will wake up, and get [it].
-------------------------
This was followed by the Obama Campaign invoking the name of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks at every opportunity.
In fact, "black America" apparently did "wake up and get it" in response to Michelle Obama's plea because Barack Obama began almost immediately to take black voters' support away from Hillary Clinton. That trend started with Michelle Obama's plea to "black America" to "wake up and get it" on national television. It didn't start with their spinning what Bill Clinton said after the South Carolina primary.
It's Me @ 116:
Yes, it could not possibly be the disastrous campaign that hillary has ran. Nope...
It could not possibly be that as a middle aged rich white woman, who has lived a relatively easy life, the black community seems to not relate much to what she is offering. Nope...
God forbid that the black community identifies with the only candidate in this election cycle which is multicultural. That could not possibly be... it must be the "race card."
BTW, it is funny how the commentators can openly wonder how Obama may not get the vote of the middle/southern American white voters. Yet that is not part of the "race card."
Now that for the first time Blacks in this country get to chose from a viable African American candidate (even if he is half black), it turns out that they are playing "the race card" after eons of only having white candidates to vote.
Ain't that a bitch.....
Tyler Durden @ 117:
White people are just pissed that they don't have a race card too.
leslie @ 101:
Wow, the articulated, educated, uppity black lady surely is scaring a lot of folks.
Love it!
At this point, I just want Obama to win just to witness the massive amounts of heads exploding in American when they get to deal with the 1st black people in the white house not part of the service. It is a win-win situation; we get a breath of fresh air in the white house, and we get rid of copious amounts of assholes that were fucking it up for the rest of us in this country.
Chapeau!
Play whatever Card works in an election.
But it's also fair game to call the Obamas out on their hypocrisy (and the media that aided them) in bogusly claiming it was THE CLINTONS who were playing the Race Card because they noticed that the Obama Campaign played it exactly that way from the beginning.
Obama is as much a hack politician about these things as any politician that ever lived.
There are going to be a lot of disappointed dreamers when they discover that Barack Obama is not really the "None Of The Above" vote they'd been wishing was on the ballot all these years.
It's Me @ 120:
If you think that Hillary lost the Black vote because of whatever "race card" Mrs. Obama pulled, I have a nice bridge to sell you.
The kid that drew the big-toothed Barack surely has a future as a political cartoonist. It was spot on with the right facial exagerations.
Tyler Durden @ 121:
Sure, sure.
And if ANYONE in the Clinton Campaign, much less either Bill or Hillary, had said on a nationally televised interview in November (or any other time), "First of all, I think that Obama's support among white voters is not going to hold. I’m completely confident: white America will wake up, and get it", I'm sure the mainstream media would have ignored it and no one on these boards would consider that to be much of a Race Card, right?
DC Madman @ 122:
Exactly, I thought it was great. Also Barak is so handsome and charming its hard to make him look bad.
Although the real elites like Hillary, McShame and the traitorous lying media are trying real hard.
donotcareforher @ 111:
You need to get out more and see the world for what it is. Not for what Faux Snooze would like for you to believe it is.
Chico Hussein @ 22:
I can't help but stare at her silky smooth skin...
I was not too eager to see this woman in the White House. But I may be changing my mind. Was that bit about the spoons a skit written by a staffer or did she suggest it or spontaneously come up with it? At least she seems to have a sense of humor (unlike the current resident) and has good comic timing. Yeah, come to think of it, she'd be an asset, whereas Bill would just be Bill.
Noah Cross @ 9:
I second that!
Well at least Ms. Obama is well spoken and not creepy and scary looking like Laura "frozen smile" Bush. Gah, that woman is the worst.
After seeing this I think she'd make a good First Lady. And she's actually kind of hot too.
Nick @ 45:
Thank God someone else saw this interview the same way I did.
Barack hasn't said he'll pull out of Iraq immediately, he has ruled creating a Universal Health Care system, he's had little engagement with international issues, and has no experience working in any type of executive position in the Federal Gov't or in the Illinois state government. If Barack is elected President, he better surround himself with some nifty people if he plans to make anything work come 2009. The man just lacks the political credentials that make me believe he'll be an effective President, especially given the myriad of challenges he'll be facing.
Tyler Durden @ 121:
It's certainly arguable. Read this article by Sean Wilentz and you might be able to see how and why that was the perfect strategy for the Obama campaign.
P.S. Bridges are horrible personal investments. They depreciate in value as soon as the first car drives over them, and the maintenance is killer.
