Priest Pwns Bill O'Reilly's Minion On Rev. Wright
By Nicole Belle Friday Apr 18, 2008 9:00pmFrom BradBlog:
And that's what America really looks like. Which is why you normally don't get to see it on TV.
Turns out the man in the video above is a Catholic priest by the name of Rev. Michael Pfleger, and apparently Bill O'Reilly did use a part of the interview above on his show. Approximately 5 seconds of it. On April 2. And yet, despite how well Pfleger deflects the nonsense tossed at him by O'Reilly's ambush reporter (as seen in the above, not on his show) O'Reilly has been flogging the same "racist, hate-monger" nonsense for weeks.
As if that's not bad enough, after the 5 seconds shown from the above interview, O'Reilly went on to do a full 6 minute segment discussing whether or not...wait for it...Pfleger should be sanctioned by the Catholic Church!
I wish I was kidding. (Watch the Bill O'Reilly video over at BradBlog)
That's what I'm talking about. Talk about showing up for a match of wits unarmed.

First of all, was Bill O'Reilly a Marine? Touché.
Rev. Michael Pfleger is very well known in Chicagoland. Much more so than Rev Wright, who I'd never heard of until the Obama stuff started.
Catholic priest as hero on C&L! Wonders never cease!! :oP
Seriously though this guy is great. This is a lesson in how to handle the worst interview tactics with politeness and restraint, and still smack down the Fox peon.
Let's stop calling these people reverend, even when they make sense. Imaginary gods all over the place.
I love that he straight told Bill'O's knucklehead that he was lying and they guy couldn't say anything but "Fair enough!"
Another clip the mainstream media wants to keep hidden!
Oh my god. This guy is amazing.
Let’s stop calling these people reverend, even when they make sense. Imaginary gods all over the place.
God or no God I believe everyone has a right to free speach in America and Reverend Wright and Bill'O-job are no exception...however I also believe you should be called on your bullshit when you spew it as Bill'O-job does in public on a regular basis.
The difference is Bill'O-job spews his hate on a national level and would be happy if everyone could hear is message, Reverend Wright was speaking to his congragation and any one of them could leave and find a new church if they didn't like what he said.
I might agree with him on Wright, but not Farrakhan. Especially since even Malcolm X would probably shun Farrakhan if he were still alive.
In the spirit of curmudgeonliness, I nominate "pwns" and all its derivatives as over-used and underwhelmingly communicative. Bah!
I saw this tape weeks ago ad I am surprised it has taken so long to get out. I am also surprised that Fox left the video up for so long, the one I saw was 12 minutes long. This is a great example of how to handle all of the bogus questions.
thank you for posting this- we have a WHOLE summer of this silliness to face...and we should start really seeing it for what it really is....trying to make Something out of Nothing....No9 is right- Farrakhan would not have been embraced by MLK or Malcom X...and the insinuations being thrown this election are taking us back to the 60's - it is absurd....
Faux Noes, Lawd Han Han & Will O'Gobbles
Testify brother! OMG, Rev. Michael Pfleger took that FOX News shill apart at the seams. Nicole nailed it, this guy was totally out of his league in the battle of the wits. Right is right and Rev. Michael Pfleger is right so it would hard to beat him anyway but that little FOXaganda punk was way out of his league. The FOXaganda shill proved himself to be a right wing shill by getting emotional at the end he did not even pretend to be a reporter. I am not Catholic or religious but after this exchange if Rev. Michael Pfleger's church were in NYC I would go to my first church sermon in 20 years!
Go Rev, go!!!
Dahgrostabphri @ 8:
I don't know why politicians don't slam some people with lawsuits. I would assume it's a bad thing to do politically but I'd still like to see them do it and maybe make people think before they just started spewing out lies about them. The swift boat BS with Kerry was a prime example. Some things you can let slide but I wouldn't have let the swifties get by.

Obama's staff:
Employ him. Borrow him. Somehow make him an official surrogate!! He had a correct answer to everything that little punk had to say.
Get him on the talk show circuit, plz!!!
Father Pfleger is a good man and Bill O'Reilly is not a good man. Father Pfleger is well known in the Chicago area as a man who stands tall for the rights of all he serves. I am not a Catholic, but if I were, I would want Father Pfleger to be my priest.
It's amazing the way these right-wing freaks try to reverse this. So if an African American calls America out for embracing the KKK for decades, while they denied black people their rights, then that person is a racist! What kind of fucked up logic is that?!?
Way to speak truth to the idiot faction, Reverend. This dork from Fox Ooze brought a knife to a gunfight.
BOOOOYAH!
holy McJebus, this guy needs to be on TV, this video needs to be number one on youtube.
Next thing you know they'll pay somebody to say he was molested by Pfleger when he was a kid.
did he ever school bill o's attack dog
Tequila @ 9:
farrakan is probably a good man.
but he may have ordered malcom x's murder.
we know our president is guilty of murder....
i am a hardcore atheist and think anyone who believes in "god" is a little flaky, but i liked that priest!
You Suck Bill. You Truly Suck. Please invite me to say it right to your face in person.
Ahhhhhh Fox News.
Non-stop lectures on patriotism, from a TV station own by an Australian who became an American so he could buy a TV station....
did he ever school bill o’s attack dog
Yeah, and with the truth. No name calling, no shouting, just...the truth! Sweeeeeet!
I can't stop marveling at self confessed atheists who can't stop judging others on account of their not being atheist themselves. Crying babies.
Ruthless People @ 14:
we finally got to hear 'chris' in all his croaking teenygopper glory, sadly didnt get to see his face pizza.
SOMEBODY GOT SPANKED!!!
True American Hero! Thats all there is to it! And all along I thought religion was a force of division, antipathy, and resentment.
I Love this brand of religion and gospel.
Nice!
Beelzebud @ 18:
Faux News logic, good old fashioned appeasement logic to their drooling fading audience.
Leonel @ 28:
Kind of judgmental, don't you think?
Brilliant!
Tequila @ 9:
Do you have a direct line to Malcolm X? How is it you know what he would do if he was alive. Really pompous, and an educated guess is you are white like me. I'm so sick of white people who make these stupid remarks.
In 10 minutes, the priest could not get to that punk. He kept repeating the hater racist crap, even after the priest laid waste to his argument. To the questioner, Bill O'Windbag and the phd on bills show: How many times have you heard Wright speak? (Or any other black preacher in church for that matter) So you, without even having sat once in that church, know better than this priest or Obama, what Wright is all about. Even tho Obama and the priest knew Wright for 20 years, these fat asses can better judge this minister more accurately.
You racists need to read all of MLK's speech, not just cherrypick what you think is his message. MLK was very poliitcal and not popular when he was alive, with these racists, just like Wright isn't popular with them.
Alice (formerly Hussein) @ 1:
No, Rev. Wright was. Bill's askeerd.

CafeenMan @ 15:
The final paragraphs of your link answer your question. It is very problematic for a politician to bring suit for defamation.
The only bigot shown in this clip is OReilly. Of course we didn't get a look at the idiot interviewing Rev. Pfleger.
As a journalist, I would be sooooo embarrassed to be a Fox News propaganda boy like that guy. How does the clown in that video live with himself? There would be more dignity in selling handjobs for $10 a throw at a truck stop.
Alice (formerly Hussein) @ 37:
Looks like it. As far as politicians go, I think they can afford the costs easily enough even if they don't get it back when they win, but like the article says, it's hard to win and if they don't it looks like the lies aren't lies after all.
DMS @ 39:
Actually, he does more than that and only charges a nickel. (Some people say)
Bill O'Reilly is Fox News' resident father Coughlin, he has made many a hateful and racist remark directed at Gays, Jews, blacks and Hispanics. It's beyond hypocrisy for him or his rabid followers to level the claims or hatred or prejudice at anyone else.
groucho @ 35:
He stated that Jeremiah Wright was a Marine then asked the interviewer 'First of all, was Bill O'Reilly a Marine?'.
To me that is an excellent retort.
To my knowledge he wasn't.
It has been said that BillO is a Chicken Hawk. Most but not all of the War Monger's are Chicken Hawks.
McCain is the exception, he is still in Vietnam.
I first heard of Rev. Michael Pfleger because he was mentioned in an article about Rev. Wright. These two men have done a lot of work in their communities. The interesting thing is that Rev. Michael Pfleger is currently in a fight with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago because he wants to remain in his current church and not be transfered elsewhere. He feels that there is a lot of work to be done in his area and does not want to lose the in-roads his church has made into making his community better.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-inverness-pastor-both-16apr...
I can't find his email, but here's the Reverend's address (I think it's the church address), for anyone who wants to send him a note congratulating him on his smack-down of Bill O'Reilly's minion...
[It's our policy to not allow the dissemination of addresses, e-mail addresses or phone numbers in the comments section. It's a banning offense. I'm sure your hearts in the right place, rebmarks, but this is a rule from which we don't vary. I'm not going to ban you, so don't sweat it. Sorry and thank you. Site Monitor]
Snowball @ 42:
Of course it is beyond hypocrisy. That has never stopped them.
The talking heads are paid huge amounts of money to do what they do.
When ones paycheck depends on being a hypocrite, then hypocrisy abounds.
Coolest. Priest. Ever.
"i am a hardcore atheist and think anyone who believes in “god” is a little flaky, but i liked that priest!"
I second that motion!
This priest rocks!!
The flunkie got spanked. Bad.
I'm an agnostic Jew, but it gives me hope to hear from people of good faith such as Rev. Wright and Rev. Michael Pfleger. If their belief gives them the strength to speak truth to power and stand forthright for justice and equality, more power to them.
DMS @ 39:
Faux prob hired 'chris' in a Florida bathroom for $20.
Did you notice, in his desperation, at about the two-thirds mark the reporter starts favorably differentiating Obama's attitude from Wright's in a way that must've had his Fox overseers panicking -- 'no, no, no, you're supposed to LUMP IN Obama with Wright, not DISTANCE him from him!!!'
Beautiful job by this gentleman, one that I'm going to pass on to several places, let's hope that by November EVERYONE in this country has had a chance to see it.

=============================
Proof we should never tar everyone with the same brush (except: FUX Noise, the GOP, and the bu$h administration: they get whatever shit we blow their way.)
The film segment from O'Reilly's show was vile. I never watch TV and when I see something like that I can't imagine how people maintain their sanity and watch TV regularly too.
It felt like some parody of the Inquisition with the three judges deliberating over whether to water-board or put the satanic-possessed priest on the rack. There is even the plaintive and purely theatrical call for mercy, not because the priest's speech is protected under the law, but because we need a dialog with Satan.
Give me an Ambien. I have to take this to bed with me.
My God, that is amazing! What a colossal badass!
Ouch, sorry about the address thing -- It's posted on his church site, so it didn't dawn on me that it would be a bad thing -- I certainly don't want to pull a "Malkin." But we're constantly being asked by this site and others to contact various news editors, talking heads etc. to make our views heard, and you even provide links. In this case, I was looking for a church email to send a "thank you", but their site only has the snail mail address. Still, sorry if I broke a rule.
That is the Catholic smarts that I grew up with and I can't believe he
defended Farrakhan and I'm not as liberal as he is but he is right about
Wright and he is right about O'Reilly.
This was such a good interview. He said a lot of very true things. If MLK was alive
today,he'd be considered a nut by O'Reilly and Hannity, and all the other right wing assholes. And he was far from a nut. God,I can't wait for a day when we'll never have to hear from these country dividing, hypocritical, elitist assholes again. But thanks to soldiers who actually fight to bring us free speech, instead of cheering from the sidelines like chickenhawks O'Reilly and Hannity,I guess we have to put up with their ignorant views. It's just too bad they're given a forum every day to speak their bullshit, while we have to search way too hard for rebuttals, like this one.
Wow- very eloquent, perceptive man. Well done.
I love the note of panic rising in the douchebag interviewer's voice. You can hear him trying to keep up with the priest.
We absolutely must transcribe this interview, and point out precisely how O'Really? and his minions know so well how to twist words and propagandize, and how this priest knew precisely how to point it out, and implore them to stop.
The tenor of the interview is essentially:
O'Really? Hack: Rev. Wright is a hater. Why is hate a good message for your church?
Pfleger: Hate is not a good message for anyone, but Rev. Wright is not a hater.
O'Really? Hack: But he says things that people think he's a hater.
Pfleger: No, he doesn't. You are twisting a sound bite for your own purposes.
O'Really? Hack: Except that if he's such a hate monger, how can you go near him?
Pfleger: I'll tell you again, he's not a hate monger. That's what you say, and it's a smear job.
O'Really? Hack: Ok, but see, my point is that Jesus taught love, and Rev. Wright hates people.
Pfleger: Stop saying that. He does not. It's not true just because you say it's true.
O'Really Hack: I'm not saying it's true because I say it's true. It's just that, well, do you believe he thinks these hateful things?
Pfleger: No. He does not believe hateful things. You just don't understand what he's saying.
O'Really Hack: Ok, ok, I understand what you're saying, but let me ask you a simple question. Why does he hate people so much?
It'd be nice to see Olbermann run this. I'm not sure if he can do it or not, but it would be great for a larger audience to see Bill's gopher get owned.
Pazuzus Petals @ 10:
I happily second you on that. And can I add "kinda" to that list? Use either of those "words" if your objective is to sound like you're 14 years old. Otherwise, please just stop.
Snowball @ 42:
It's a basic rule with right-wing noise machine participants, and the people who represent them in the government:
If one of them calls you out on something / implores you to stop doing something / accuses you of something / condemns something, then............
.......he is that something's most ardent and hard-core practitioner.
to think that I had rejected and denounced the church(roman catholic), preach on!
O'Reilly's henchman is on tape here admitting that people make a distinction between Obama and Wright. So what's the story? Am I the only one who caught that?
Wow! I nearly had a relapse of my Catholicism. Take no prisoners, padre!
Wow. Go Fr. Pfleger! I'm glad someone has the balls to defend Rev. Wright, since Barak Obama seems unwilling to (and of the three people in the running for the presidency, Obama has my vote so far). Almost makes me proud of having been a Catholic at one point. Almost.
See what happens when these fuckers can't control the conversation by trying to keep everything to 30 second soundbites and talking over their guests in a controlled environment? See how EVEN MORE FUCKING STUPID their hateful talking points sound when they can't control someone's response to them by cutting them of or cutting over to a separate guest?
See what happens when they attempt to have a LOGICAL DEBATE!??! (*horror*)
THEY GET OWNED!
And it's not just lack of experience or journalistic prowess on the part of the minion. O'Reilly, Hannity, or Brit would've been similarly owned in this kind of situation where the right-wing noise machine isn't controlling the dial.
I wanna know who the big guy is standing behind the priest. One of the priest's friends/associates or a Fox goon? He looked as if he was "stationed", not just hanging out.
Pfleger was fantastic, and spoke more truth in ten minutes than O'Reilly has in his entire career.
That is one righteous Reverend!
But what I want to know is this... There are a lot really smart righteous members of the Clergy like Rev. Pfleger, Father Andrew Greeley, And Abbess Sister Joan Chitester who walk the talk and speak truth to power without batting an eye... but who do we see being served up to us in the media perpetually?
They serve us up idiots like Bill Donohue of the Catholic League (who by all accounts makes most Catholics want to hide under a rock), or the Talibaptist like Rev. John Hagee, or Tony Perkins of the Family research Council (reputed to have purchased KKK Grand Wizzard David Duke's mailing list for $82,500 when he joined that organization), or O'Reilly and his hit squad.
Of course the media isn't interested in the truth... only controversy because it sells and gets ratings, so they drag out those who from the stand point of what Jesus actually taught... don't get it and probably never will to represent the "religious point of view." No wonder so many are turned off to the church these days.
I am not a religious man but....Amen Reverend Pfleger!
O'Reilly is a complete fraud.
Watching the full Pfleger interview, then watching O'Reilly cherry pick an out of context sound bite to twist off about, says enough about the yellow liars at FOX that any viewer with the sense to blink should never believe a single word uttered from Murdoch's bilge pump.
After watching so many untruths spoken on television day after day and over and over again on all the news channels this was a breath of fresh air. It was wonderful to hear someone with intelligence and that would stop the twisting and lying in its place thus causing this O'Lielly hack to sound like nothing more than an over zealous teenager trying to get someone in trouble. But, but, like he, but he, what about, but, but, - like some moronic tattletale. Ha! O'Lielly would tell him to shut up and to stop telling the truth!!
Go Father Pfleger!
I found this story... http://www.eyesonfox.org/
groucho: I might be white like you, but I read about Malcolm, and Farrakhan is no Malcolm.
Malcolm encouraged the black community to assert itself, while Farrakhan just encourages the black community to look to scapegoats for its problems.
What a perfect ending. That twit, after being handed his hat, saying, "Well (pause)..thank you very much". And Brad is correct. That is what America really looks like.
amazing vid
Pfleger should be the next pope
dont think you would see him making nice with bush
Wow. The guy on this clip actually gives priests a good name. I can't wait for McCain to win and then have the media play the clip of Falwell and Robertson saying that the gays and our immoral lifestyle brought about 9/11. Why is the media not playing that up?
Pfleger takes every right wing talking point out of the poor little douchebag's mouth and turns it back on him.
It reminds me of the schoolyard bully grabbing a smaller kid's arm, balling the hand into a fist and punching him in the head with it over and over...
"Hey little Faux producer, why are you hitting yourself? Huh? Stop hitting yourself!"
The Eighth Circle awaits O’Reilly and his minions.
Bad week for the knee pad media. Perhaps people have nearly had enough of the lies and bullshit ? Still looks like a recess fight at kindergarten.
If only there was a cable channel where we could get these background stories on a regular basis.
So who's the little twerp with the mic sent out as O'Reilly's flying monkey? If his intention was to ambush Rev. Pfleger with those cliches, non sequiturs and false premises posing as questions I guess he had another thing comin'.
The Rev. drank his milkshake.
Hokey smokes. I watched the whole Orally thing and it is...well, hell, I am speechless.
Thanks for this. It makes me very sad.
Rev Wright was a Marine.
Timothy McVeigh was an Army soldier.
They both hate America.
Pfleger is a batshit crazy extremist who is barely holding onto his Catholic credentials.
It's amazing how far you Obama supporters are willing to drag America down because you have some kind of unnatural loyalty to Obama.
You are "changing" the Democratic party into the party of "God Damn America!", "blame America first", "White man's greed", "Garlic nosed Italians", Rev Wright, William Ayers and Louis Farrakhan.
Keep up the good work. Thousands of lifetime, loyal Democrats are leaving the party by the day, registering as independents.
Rev. Michael Pfleger is the man of month of standing up that Fox rat.
That youtube made my day, everyone should see this
Wow.
Truth unfiltered.
From a priest.
On FOX.
I must be CrazyDay.
Oh gosh, do I have to read every post to figure out what garlic, noses, and Italians have to do with idiot wingnut flunkies?
OH! That was fresh, straight medicine.
90 Fil Says: Rev. Michael Pfleger is the man of month of standing up that Fox rat.

He left him babbling and wordless.
Also, quite clearly, more voters are registering, or reregistering, as Democrats, thus any number leaving to inconsequential. Besides which, how many independents like me, as a Green party member, are going to vote for Obama? As my Cajun granny used to say (in my dreams) Beau coup! And, how many f sane Republicans are going to vote for Obama given the alternative offered by their own party? Again, quoting my imaginary Cajun granny: Mucho!
The funny thing is, ANY preacher worth his salt would probably own that light-weight "reporter" (stooge) Bill O'Really sends around trying to catch smear victims off guard.
Catholic priests are highly educated and can be more than a match for would be buffoons like O'Really and Hannity when it comes to debating hot issues.
The "reporter" in the interview? Heh, he didn't even know what hit him. If this was a game of Unreal Tournament that priest would have scored a couple of head shots on his dumb ass, while the little "reporter" would still be busy trying to figure out how to switch guns.
OxyCon @ 89:
God you sound like a whiny little bitch!
I got news for you pal, if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. It takes balls to criticize something or someone you love, which you probably weren't taught to do, ergo you have no balls.
And if you quit being a Democrat because you can't bear the thought of criticizing your country's leadership, I say good riddance.
As an ex-Catholic, I will say that if most priests were like Father Pfleger, I would still be a Catholic. My last parish priest left to be a Wyoming cowboy after Vatican II because he could not stand the church's move to modernity. Priest like Father Pfleger are swimming against the tide. I admire him and the other courageous priests and ministers who are the true Christian leaders in this country; not the Hagees, Robinsons and Falwells, and certainly not the O'Reillys who can have their shallow church.
OxyCon @ 89:
I am a retired Army officer and Vietnam vet. If you were a loyal Democrat who left the party, I say good riddance. Your view of America is anthema to any truly patriotic American.
Those were some great retorts on the fly by Pfleger. Kept his cool and owned that reporter. The reporter should be fired by Faux for allowing the Rev to get a word in at all. O'Reilly & Hannity would never have allowed such discourse.
If you're white and you speak out against injustice, you're angry.
If you're black you're a hater.
Faux news in a nutshell.
I should have said Father Pfleger. My bad.
I may not agree with the man on the subject of god, but I could proudly work along side Rev. Pfleger. He's one of the few from the religious side of the aisle that makes sense to me. Rock on Mike!
I like this guy, a lot. He says everything I would like to say were I in his situation.
Wow... O'Reilly's an egregious deuche bag... what a sorry sack of filth. Good to see theologians of his own religion (Catholic) call him out for the ridiculous hypocrite we all know him to be.
Mmm, I love a good minion bashing. I guess O'Reilly's stooge went and had a little cry in their unmarked van.
Thats how you talk to a neocon and/or their poodles: Truthfully
"Rev Wright was a Marine.

Let us know how things work out for ya OxyCon, good luck with that
Its amazing that everyone is trumpeting this guy as great after continually bashing all Catholics on this board every day. There are thousands upon thousands of Catholics that think like this man... and to claim all Catholics think the exact same is well, just like bush and co thinking all Muslims think the same.
People are people and many of the Catholic faith are small minded morons like the rest of society, but many more of them actually live their life with the spiritual belief and faith in Jesus' teachings. I hear the "enlighteneder than though" atheists spewing their zealous rants on here daily... I'd like to know where the Atheist Society is setting up centers for the homeless, centers for the sick, giving cash hand-outs to the poor to pay their electric bills, living poor and going to other countries to actually practice what they preach.
Yes, there's corruption within every institution but there are Catholics all over the world doing great things for humanity... and its interesting that many on this board base their perceptions of Christians and Catholics on the very media you claim to be a sham.
Yes We Can! Man, Distribute this video everywhere! People have to see this! EVERYONE!
Phleger has been a staple in Chicago for as long as I can remember.. at least a decade and a half. He gets press, generally local TV news (which I rarely if ever watch anymore).
Phleger is famous, or infamous, for being an extremely vocal advocate for his congregation. His congregation is, as I understand it, low-income black. I've always liked him even though I've never had much respect for the church.. even when I started and quickly stopped going to catechism at about 8 or 10 years old. (don't know how my mom never heard about)
It's too bad, but all too understandable that people like Phleger don't get national coverage. Generally he only makes the local news when he organizes some sort of protest. I always suspected he gets on TV because the local news feels it should put up a story about all those Poor People who are up in arms about something or other.
We are better served with reason if we look at what Bill O considers America.
In all of BIll O's obsessiveness in his radio and TV appearances. He points to Americans and says they are not American.
I'm sorry to give Bill a reality check, but Bill himself with his womanizing would not be American if Bill O was looking at himself. Bill can't pick and choose who is and what is American. He is not quite qualified from his lifes little bubble.
Rev. Michael Pfleger is my kind of preacher! If I lived near him I might consider going to church...

It was good to see a Beetlejuice minion bitch-slapped by a priest. I, too, wonder why this wasn't out in the public domain weeks ago if it was filmed then. I can see why Beetlejuice didn't want to air more than a few seconds of it.
Makes me wish that guy who stuck the mike back in the face of ambush goon a few weeks ago was around, or just as good, where's a mob of Ron Paul supporters chasing down the Frankensteins when you need 'em?
May God show Beetlejuice (and all of Faux) his wrath, and soon.

this is how you talk to those idiots
So he's saying the government put MLK away?
Of course the government (J. Edna and folks) killed MLK. Duh!
If I have money, I don't talk about it. I just have money
If I'm an atheist. I don't talk about it. I'm just an atheist.
Those who constantly talk about about being an atheist; They are not. They do it just to reassure their constant insecurity about their religious unstability. Furthermore , at the first dangerous sign of losing their life, (illness, accidents, etc, etc, ) they are the first ones to fall on their knees and beg for forginess...Oh Lord, I never meant what I said. Oh Lord. Help!
Sooo, please. STFU! If you are it, then be it. We don't really give a shit to keep hearing about your insecurities. Enjoy being what you are. We don't want to know. It doesn't make you any bigger or important. You just would be another atheist more in the Lord's herd. Got that?
There's a lot of things wrong with the Catholic church, but Rev. Michael Pfleger is not one of them.
How refreshing to hear and see O'Rielly's toady news hack get the shit kicked out of him by this educated and caring cleric.

Alice,
They are called that because they have earned that honorific by virtue of the degrees they hold. It is normal for some Ph. D.'s to be called Reverend, just like it is normal to call some Ph. D.'s Doctor.
This really isn't an imaginary god thing. Seriously. It is respect for learning. You remember when that was common in America? Before Reagan? [ahem - speaking of imaginary gods of the GOP]
It look s like Bill 'Os guy just got punk'd. I wish that he would have brought up the fact that Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell both said some very harsh things in regard to the 9/11 attacks and one of them also said some pretty bad things after Katrina, I didn't here them being attacked as un-patriotic.
This guy is a hero -- and FYI there is a reason that the belief that AIDS is a government plot hatched to kill blacks has traction -- why does no one recall the Tuskegee Experiment? Went through the early 70's -- poor black sharecroppers, were left untreated from syphilis as part of a government experiment for 40 years. Its not like that belief doesn't have some element of truth.
"marko Says:
i am a hardcore atheist and think anyone who believes in 'god' is a little flaky, but i liked that priest!"
That's okay, Marko. I find Atheists flaky. The Church needs more preists like Rev. Michael Pfleger, though.
I disagree with only one point Rev. Michael Pfleger made.
Dissent is not a priviledge...it is a responsibility.
wolfgang @ 123:
I appreciate your right to your own sentiment but you've been punked yourself.
I am all for learning using the scientific method. The scientific method, remember that?
Observe and define phenomena (ask a question), propose and use a hypothesis (answer the question), obtain (independent) empirical evidence to test your hypothesis (is the answer correct).
Quantum physics, evolutionary biology etc etc.
Religion is about faith in which one is led to believe things for which there is no evidence. No proof, none, period.
You call that LEARNING, that is indoctrination. That is what the right wing is about, although so many of them are completely cynical about it. Someone like Karl Rove is a perfect example. He is a non believer, yet for politics he extolls the virtues of superstition. He isn't alone is he.
The worst crimes in the history of the world have been undertaken by people of 'faith'.
They will even fly airplanes into to buildings.
Show me an atheist who will do any such thing.
It is precisely an imaginary god thing. You can pile up as many such 'degrees' as you wish, one on top of the other, it means nothing in the realm of real learning.
Imaginary gods all over. I will not call such people reverend. For me, there is nothing to revere in superstition.
I'm not Catholic but I am a Christian. This guy reminds me of my pastor. Great job of telling the truth!
Alice (formerly Hussein) @ 128:
Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot. How's that for starters? It's easy to blame everything on religion, but it's really the need to dominate others that is the root of all evil.
Widespread @ 130:
They were the ones doing the dominating.
Widespread @ 130:
I would say that they weren't true atheists -- rather they'd replaced worship of God, with worship of the State.
In that respect, all the dictators you mentioned are THEISTS, practicing Statism. The only difference with them is they didn't say as the Pope or other religious leaders do, "I am the voice of God on earth," rather Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot just basically claimed the role of God itself for their own. Total control over the lives of their people.
In that respect, you are quite right, the need to dominate, control, manipulate others IS the real evil we're talking about.
As for the Catholic priest here who shredded that Faux News weenie, you were doing the work of the Lord there, sir. I thank you.
I am an atheist, but I have no trouble with people who are religious as long as they are not trying to convert me or make their religious beliefs the law of the land. I have no trouble calling this man reverend, either. After seeing this I have the sincerest respect for him. I hope to see much more of this type of thing in the future. I'm going to comment, five star and favorite this on YouTube right now to help it get more exposure.
Brilliant. Absolutely freaking brilliant.
Widespread @ 130:
I've raised Staln and Mao and Pol Pot, but to state that it's atheism or religion that do things is distorting the picture. It's state atheism or religion that are the problem. When belief or lack thereof in a God or gods becomes a test of loyalty to a state, it's a short road from there to Stalin and Mao and Hong Xiuquan and Basil II. 5by5 at 132 has an accurate enough thing of it, except I'd add that Hong Xiuquan, Basil II, Charlemagne, Oliver Cromwell, Aurangzeb, and Al-Hakim did the same things from the religious perspective.
The problem of making either atheism or theism the state ideology is what to do with those who do not follow it. Both, in the hands of someone in power can be corrupted. Neither itself is inherently corrupt, though due to the nature of humanity, atheism tends much less to the authoritarian corruption in religion.
This shows exactly what is wrong with MSM and Fox News and Bill O'Shithead.
Alice (formerly Hussein) @ 128:
The atheist suicide bomber: I BELIEVE IN NOTHING!!!!!
The agnostic suicide bomber: I DON'T CARE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER!!!
The apatheistic suicide bomber: IT MEANS NOTHING ANYWAY!!!(BOOM!!)
Wow, if all Cathoic priests were like him, I'd go back! Touche, Padre!!!
Alice (formerly Hussein) @ 128:
"Quantum Physics, evolutionary biology etc etc" Oh those who are so very smug in the speck of knowledge that man knows about the world, the human body and the universe. Yes, 99% of all Christians believe in evolution. Your statements remind me of the slowest kid in class having a goofy smile after answering the teachers warm up question. Scientists base all their evolutionary knowledge and examination of the world while ignoring the biggest of all variables... they cannot explain the spark of life that started this.
So while you're patting yourself on the back for the wonders of science that are obvious in the world there are those of faith that are trying to piece in the missing variable.
Like I said in an earlier comment... where are the Atheist soup kitchens, where are the Atheist homeless shelters, where are the Atheist people giving cash hand outs for poor people's bills? Oh yeah, there are none. Please spare us your zealous claim that you have a corner on any type of morality market.
bleve @ 140:
Where are the atheist Inquisitions, the atheist Massacres of Verden, the atheist Hong Xiuquans who slaughter millions for their dream of religion? Why has Earth advanced more in the last few hundred years under secularizing science than the 149, 400 years of the species' existence (admittedly only in a very few areas for a probably very short time, but the point remains)?
Before you say anything, I'm Southern Baptist.
Atheism and secular science (two different things) have done more to advance the Western world than us religious types through most of the species history. The rest of it....
That has more to do with the afteraffects of religious control of subject populations...
You don't mess with Catholic priests from Chicago. O'Reilly's little lap dog may as well have tried to play chess with Bobby Fischer.
General_Rennenkampf @ 141:
I hear this argument all the time... it wasn't the belief system, it was the corruption at the very top of that particular institution that allowed such horrors. And lets set the record straight... many of the people that actually carried out the horrors of the inquisition etc, were not blinded by faith. I would argue that they were blinded by power and were indeed truly Atheist in that they believed not in the system that enabled their power.
Secular science like our dependence on oil right? Our enslavement in this system of killing off our natural resources came out of the corruption within secular science. Scientific corruption abounds... that's why they prescribe over priced drugs, that's why there are no widescale alternative resources... any system is susceptible to corruption.
That's why its interesting to me that atheists think they are a different type of human than a person of faith. People are people.... every human is capable of the worst in humanity and every person is capable of the best... if you don't know that, go deeper and examine yourself.
bleve @ 143:
Do the words in bold mean nothing to you? You're right, we're all capable of being either Hitler or Mother Teresa or Ghandi or Shi Huangdi. But the killers of the Inquisition indeed were blinded by faith, people get too wrapped up in the regional titles to forget the Inquisitions at their heart were heresy trials. The best example of a destructive Christian is Hong Xiuquan.
Bastard murdered some millions of people. You might point out his heterodoxy from both Western, Eastern, and Nestorian Christianity. You might also do well to admit that had this Christian Mao won against the Qing Dynasty, we'd be lauding his name to the skies because he "civilized" the "heathen" Chinamen.
Lest you forget, Hitler was a white, European Hong Xiuquan who had unorthodox Christian beliefs who also killed millions of people. Science may be corrupted, yes. It's not perfect, and scientists are human. But to believe in some future "scientific inquisition" is laughably, obscenely stupid.
I am an athiest and I have no problem with religion. Many people need the fear of god to do the right thing. Don't you think those crazy snake handlers would be out killing and raping if they didn't think some invisible being wasn't watching? Besides, I love trying to explain to my kids that those Kangaroos hopped from Australia to the Middle East to get on Noah's boat. They look at me like I just told them that a giant rabbit will be sneaking chicken eggs into our yard on Easter.
Now that is a leader.
well Father Pfleger is not without his ditractors but I really like what he said there. Put that little prick, and by association Billo, in his place.
General_Rennenkampf @ 144:
"the killers of the Inquisition indeed were blinded by faith" Sure, I guess historians will be saying that Bush and Co were blinded by patriotism.... get a clue. Whatever setting you put it in, its power and the corruption that spreads from it. Any setting, any circumstance, any belief or scientific system... where there is power, there will be corruption.
Have no idea what you're rambling about a "Scientific inquisition"... nice touch to include quotes on something that was never said and then call me stupid.
Excellent response from Pfleger! I would love to hear some of his services.

Thirded...this from an agnostic atheist.
