I want to commend C&L for its well rounded sense of the issues.
Unlike Huffington Post.
I've yet to see them address this.

I am an anti military peacenick and i do not scoff at the military nor do i look down on people who serve or have served in the military. I am deeply offended that our government treats its veterans like shit.

I've seen some pretty noxious posts on this site but I don't think, with the exception of the puppy throwing marine, that I've ever seen anyone diss a soldier or vet. That's as it should be. Hope you get all the health coverage you'll ever need.

33 vets tried to kill themselves today. 33 will try tomorrow. What is the VA trying to do to intervene? This is going to go on and on. It is like watching Katrina on tv except nobody is watching. Very few are aware of it.

Hi xoites and everyone else,
I've been out of the country on vacation and C&L was not available in Cuba. Not a big deal tho because Cuba is a beautiful country and the people there are super nice.
The propaganda that comes out of soddom on the potomac is so wrong. Yah they don't have alot but they are a surviving and thriving nation. And they have done it without the US.
Oh and when I was there I went to the Bay of Pigs, Havana and stayed in Varadero. Saw the usual street cops but that was about it. No armed soldiers(with the exception of a few goverment buildings in Havana) checking ID or anything like that.
On the flight from Calgary to Varadero I sat beside a Cuban who was working in Alberta. He was heading home to visit his family and we were talking away the flight. I asked him if he was going to move to the United States. Much to my surprise he said no he had no intention of going to the US even though all he had to do was cross the border and he was a landed imigrant.
I asked him why and he said he would rather live in Canada because it was a better country.
after my trip all I can say
VIVA CUBA LIBRE(with a twist of lime)

They all involve destroying other people's lives. Killing innocent people destroys a man's character. 1 million civilians have been killed in Iraq. The United States is a monster. Neoliberalism is a very common word on the internet, look it up. It is very similar to imperialism, or butting your ass where it doesn't belong.

You do post some interesting links Tequila. The McCain link was fabulous. He wouldn't have let those people down. It is also something that can probably be worked through with medical attention and counseling. I wonder where the budget fot that went?

And still, the VA and Pentagon insist on athree-tier evaluation that the soldier must insist upon BEFORE any psychiatric evlauation or action will be taken.

It's not die for this country and be taken care of -- it's risk your life for this country, risk orphaning your kids, or surviving to become a shell of your former shelf, and take care of your own damn self, if you can.

Admiral Fallon was brought into that position; becuase, he was an expert on carrier warfare. The Bush Administration wanted him in charge so that he could conduct a bombing campaign on Iran. It was a wierd place to put an Admiral. I think he is the first Admiral in US History to command a ground war. Anyways, I think this signals a change in policy. They were young highly educated computer geeks with a long streak of patriotism. Nice guys with good senses of humor who worked hard and played hard. Very highly competetive but not in a draconian way.

If you were asking about what they did, you get nothing. If you let them be themselves you find out some things.

To hell with that! I am not spying on my own government!

I am a courier. I have delivered things to government buildings all over DC. I have been in places most people never dream of, The NSA, the CIA, the Pentagon, FBI Headquarters.

I know some flaws, all systems have flaws.

Want to know what i know?

Too bad. You never will.

How is that spying? Don't get carried away on some BS conspiracy.

Then why suggest listening to people?

I don't want to know in the first place.

Good question. You will learn more by listening than you will ever by talking. It doesn't mean you have to teach someone else.

Let me make something perfectly clear.

I oppose the Pentagon, the NSA, the CIA and Homeland Security on moral grounds.

And i will continue to oppose them on moral grounds. That means i will do nothing underhanded to see them disbanded. I want the people of this country to legislate them out of existence. That is how i want to see them go. Not by blowing them up or flying an airplane into them or betrying them to a foriegn government or to terrorists.

I simply want to stop spending our tax money on them.

For all the bluster between China and Taiwan, they have too much mutual industry at stake now to do anythings serious.

Get rid of the plans to bomb Iran and concentrate on the ground wars. It probably means that things are getting ready to heat up in Afghanistan and the Pentagon is getting nervous.

Isnt Afghanistan outside that groups sphere of control !? separate warzone and all that !

Both wars fall under CENTCOM

As many of you may know, I live right beside a US army base in Seoul, Korea. This guy in the cartoon, looks like a lot of the young GIs I see "around town".

The career military guys have matured, but the new recruits look like they're ripe for exploitation!!! Fer sure. Feed 'em Kool-Aid and give them (dangerous) toys to play with. The AFN (American Forces Network) is pretty much non-stop propaganda from the Pentagon, interspersed with popular dramas and game shows. (At least I can watch Letterman on it. Thanks for that.)

I would much rather listen and learn from you than anyone i have ever met who works for a security arm of the US goverment.

Thank you. I seem to have a personality that makes some people want to open up to me. It's sometimes a blessing and other times a curse.

Besides, i learned something non security related from them: Texas Hold 'em.

Much more fun (if expensive) than the latest code word for "coffee." :)

They're also misled into re-upping with promises of plum assignments. My nephew just re-upped. He was in a decent position in Germany, away from the horror in the mideast, but he wanted to come back to his hometown of Fayetteville, NC, to be near his fiancee. They told him "sure" but didn't tell him he'd be going to Iraq as soon as they could fill out the paperwork. So now not only is he not learning anything to use in the civilian world once he gets out, he's cannon fodder (IED fodder?) for this corrupt regime's ego.

He's only 22, and believed what his government told him. God DAMN the whole BUSH family!!!

Having said all that i will now tell you what i do know about the NSA which i learned from Phil Berrigan back in 1975. He knew this because several ex members of the NSA came and told him.

In the NSA it is illegal to copy a code word. One guy who came to him told him that he went to the men's room and a code word was written on the wall of a toilet stall. He said he went back later and there was a lab crew in there removing the stall wall so they could take it to the lab and analyse it to determine who put it there.

When you quit the NSA you are followed for two years.

Before i left Baltimore last year my roomate had a friend who worked for the NSA who he wanted to have as our roommate. When i asked my roommate if his friend knew of my political history and if it would compromise his security clearance he relayed the message.

This guy's boss told him he could not share an apartment with me because there was a strong belief i might be arrested at the NSA in a protest. (So much for reliable intelligence.)

On the other hand his boss had no problem with him fleecing me at Texas Hold 'em. :)
