I am hearing that the McCain fund-raiser with Bush has been down-sized from a convention center to a private residence. Just another indication of the uber-rich retreating to gated communities.
...and in related news, Paraguay might not be a safe place for international criminals to retire to on large tracts of land. The new government is making overtures to returning to the international community including abandoning the non-extradition treaty. Oooops, huh, Bush?
I like Harry, but not as much as I use to.
A few years ago on "le show" he had a recurring rant about the price of bananas in airports. Considering how much he makes, I couldn't see why he was so irate.
More recently, I was surprised that he charges to appear at liberal fund raisers. I would have thought he help those that agree with him. It's not like he needs the money.
In reading about his SNL years, I get the feeling that he is hard to work with. Maybe this is why he is the only voice on the Simpsons that hasn't won an Emmy.
i have had my opinion pulled off of this site for conspiracy theory reasons in the past, but if you read the following articles:
“Good Girl Roxie: 8 million Americans are “potential suspects” in an illegal domestic surveillance program” on mike’s blog and this article from the NYT:

Funny thing, if they're anything like Medina WA, where Bill Gates and the McCaws live, the wealthy community will be billed for the security, all the local cops and the OT for the event. That happened to Medina when one of the McCaws had a fundraiser for the Empty Flightsuit and brought him in by land (Gates brings them in by water. and IIRC it was President Clinton). And let me tell you, there's nothing more satisfying than hearing a bunch of billionaires screaming like wounded eagles over splitting a measly $75,000 bill about 50 ways. It's like less than a second's income for those mopes.

As we speak my daughter is studying for her world history final. she asked me "what were the reasons we went to war in Iraq..." OMG will she have to memorize all 935 lies? Anyway, I told her I could give her several answers but advised her to look into which one her teacher offered...
Before McCain, and the right wing talking heads, start talking trash about Obama never having served in the military, they should remind themselves that neither did Ronald Reagan ('cause making films doesn't count when others soldiers, at that same time, are being shot at). Cheney chickenhawked out, and Bush didn't serve either (not that anyone, not even himself, can prove). Then there all those non serving TV pundits, as well as non serving NEOCONS.
This is what the Tallahassee police did: used possession charges against someone to force them to set up a drug deal, ending in death. In this case, the death was of a 23 year old college graduate who was charged for possessing Marijuana on her person, after a speeding violation, and was forced to be a party to a crack and gun deal.

What's the latest news on the DC Madam "suicide"? I mean, surely the two suicide notes are of interest to a curious public, or at least a photo of the fateful shed.
I don't know about that. I think it sounds very good. As an added bonus it irritates the liars and those who believe the lies. Damned good side effects, don't you agree? :)

This Memorial Day would be a good time to push for an Iraq Occupation Memorial on the National Mall. My suggestion would be a giant granite wall inscribed with every lie used to justify the invasion and ongoing occupation of Iraq. Half of it could be left blank, and filled out as we go along. Here is one that will be used in 2010, "Saddam's regime was on the verge of authorizing gay marriage."

I noticed that too ..
Makes for a bit of Hope, eh?
No one wants bush living in their country. He'll attract the same vermin wherever he goes, and we've all seen his idea of spreading democracy. Watch the classifieds for a 100,000 acre ranch, in Paraguay, going up for sale.
Just one more reason why I don't think that the Bush gang will leave office willingly. They'd lose all that money and power AND be open to prosecution for their war crimes. So, tell me again why they'd leave office.
Hell, I guess that leaves Dubai . . . maybe Haliburton can cut a deal with the contractor building their new headquarters there and build a "ranch" . . .

Maybe we could buy it and turn it into a commune
I bet theres some interesting plants growing on it already, plus the million acres owned by the Rev Moon next door.
Why would anybody buy that amount of land unless they were planning on growing stuff there or fleeing there and using it as some sort of 'Jones town' in some mad max future.

Ann Davidow (Soon to be an Exclusive BuzzFlash Columnist Twice a Week) on Clinton and McCain: "These folks often try to suggest we have misunderstood their original intent. The truth is that we have simply cut through their rhetorical triangulations and begun to understand who they really are."
My problem with the video is that it does not accomplish anything constructive. I would rather focus on the intelligence reports that they used to make their decisions. I am more concerned about improving what we do in the future as opposed to name calling which doesn't accomplish anything worthwhile. Whoever is the next president, they will face some tough decisions. The world hated America before Bush became president, just look at our history. The Cuban missile crisis of the early 1960's that John F. Kennedy beautifully handled is a good example of how evil should be treated. We almost had nuclear missiles in Cuba. That would have definitely changed history.

OK, a few points. The world has always had a simmering discontent with the USA. You are correct. No one likes a big bully, especially snooty, to boot. But now, we hate the USA with stoked anger.
The sheeple need to be de-programmed from the propaganda they've been infused with. First they have to be made aware of what has happened, to be on guard against future attacks. Lest we forget what the bush administration hath wrought!!!
Oops, make that MountainMan23. Up too late last night.
I thought it was a great video. Nine hundred and thirty-five lies that we know about and hundreds of thousands of people dead because of them. These bastards are still walking free and living the good life. Sickening.

The "simmering discontent" is an understatment. Some people in the world have hated us for a long time. We tried to stay out of WWII until we were hit by suicide bombers.

Actually there WERE nuclear missiles in Cuba. Over a hundred of them. Both Castro and Che gave orders to fire them at the US East Coast, but the Russian general in charge said nyet. The Soviets pulled the missiles out in part because they did not trust Castro with them.

it is now being reported that 270 illegals were jailed subsequent to the agriprocessor raid
i am not a supporter of illegal immigrants, but this is absurd...they have been convicted of using false documentation....but it seems those documents were procurred by the owners and their operatives
it is the corporatists who are the true criminals...not the illegals...who should be shipped back immediatly to their respective countries

Hatred is routed in ignorance. It is much easier to hate somebody that you don't know nor understand.
What's being deleted? And why is there nothing on C&L about Hillary's blunder yesterday? Is that what's being deleted? Can we not discuss the fact that Hillary Clinton has made the biggest mistake of her political career? Is that not news? Will this be deleted? If so, will I ever visit this site again?

Jesus H. Christ, discuss it here. For fuck's sake, people, C&L decided not to pile on Clinton- BECAUSE, IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, THE MSM, THE RIGHT WING BLOGOSPHERE, THE LEFT WING BLOGOSPHERE, AND YOUR GREAT-GRANDMOTHERS ARE TALKING ABOUT IT! No one has been stopped from talking about it here (and, BTW, Zeppyfish, that's what the deletions are about, I'll complete the thought after the parentheses), you're being deleted because you are wasting bandwidth jabbering on about how C&L should have a post about the topic when you should be writing to the site by e-mail so that the bloggers will see it.
Better yet, start your own freakin' blogs (it's cheap to start one up, just go to Google and open a Blogger account there) and chat about anything you want to. You would get to choose what you want to post and you get to deal with all of the griping, flaming and general shittiness to which you subject other readers at this site on an hourly basis all by yourselves...once you get past that one-reader (your cousin in Vermont)-per-month stage.
BTW, I think piling on Clinton at this point does nothing but hurt Obama's chances in the fall. Did she say something stupid? Yes and no....She was, in general, correct that anything can happen between now and Denver. She was dumb in framing the idea in the terms of assassination. When hardcore Obama supporters decide to get shrill about it (and some of you folks can be real pricks), they're just going to push Clinton supporters(and some of you folks are the most annoying whiners I've ever heard/read) stright into McCain's arms.
And if you think that any blog that has stated its neutrality regarding the Democratic Party's nominating process should plunger its dagger- the hundredth or thousandth dagger in the last two days- into Clinton's already mortally wounded campaign...well, you're either crazy or a Republican.
Someone may wish to cast a glance in the mirror when they talk about griping and shittiness-subjecting. Or start their own freakin' blog, where they can dispense their wisdom to their cousin in Vermont.
aw fook that getting "shrill about it" bullshite, and fook that LIE about whiners...
the clintonistas are the biggest and they DESERVE mcCRAZY-GRAMPY's arms...
quit making excuses for bad behavior... we've had quite enough!
We knew India and Pakistan were pursuing nuclear weapons programs at the time, but no American seriously contemplated invading and occupying those countries.
It wasn't just the lies (which I believe were very transparent at the time), what allowed the fiasco to build up and then be acted on was the lack of resistance, in fact the majority of Americans supported it at the time. There was a willingness to go to war.
But I always felt that people should know in their gut that war is a last resort.
People should know instinctively that war should be avoided at all costs.
Yes we were lied to as well, and I want to see those criminals in jail as much as anyone,
but the guilt doesn't stop there...

On their platforms, I had both Obama and Clinton one rung up the ladder from Bankruptcy Bill Biden. They both suckle the corporate teat. I had every other Dem candidate ranked above 'em. I'm pretty neutral. As far as their diehard fans go, one side has been as bad as the other, in different ways, the only difference being that the Obama crowd has a more vocal presence in the prog-o-sphere.
But, hey. you just keep on pushin' the other guys outta the way. But don't complain when McCain is making the Supreme Court appointments.

No, you're just the guy hyper-extrapolating. Try calming down. Pull the banana out of the tailpipe.
I am truly sorry for starting a rant-fest. I really was confused about why no one seemed to be discussing what seemed to be the biggest news story of the day. If, as you say, there's no problem with discussing the story, then I don't see why people would be complaining. If the deletions were for people who have nothing better to do than gripe about the content on this site, I can see why that would get old.
I guess I came here first after hearing the news and seeing Olbermann's amazing comment, mostly because this is the blog where I expect to find the most interesting and concise opinions on most things politically liberal. I was surprised to see nothing about the incident, that's all.
If the bottom line really is that Hillary's campaign is over, then I guess there's nothing to talk about, but it seems like there would be a LOT to talk about, such as how does this event impact the Democratic party, and many other far more interesting subjects than why C&L should headline a post in a particular way.
Hope this comment is OK.
[You guys are perfectly welcome to discuss the event. We never had a problem with that, and yes, the deletions were for people who were incessantly griping about the content on this site, and not dropping it when asked. We have open threads so posters are able to pick and facilitate discussion of topics they choose. I wasn't monitoring tonight, but I see nothing wrong with this comment at all-Sitemonitor]

Speaking as an auslander myself, I can tell you with some confidence and experience that the world definitely does not hate America. Remember how you couldn't get up the steps of a US embassy in the world for all the wreaths that people had laid? How many wreaths have been sent to Chinese embassies lately?
I would think that any regular viewer of this site ought to know the difference between constructive criticism and hatred. The fact that we shake our head and sigh at the antics of your leaders does not amount to hatred. The true friend tells you the truth, even when it's uncomfortable. It's a pity the Bush administration doesn't have such a mature view of friendship. In fact, the second half of that sentence is probably redundant. It's a pity, the Bush administration.
As for your comment about Kennedy, you're spot on. Even then though, the world viewed America with a healthy balance of respect and suspicion.

Wow, this sounds like it was written by Karl Rove, man! Harry is a human being, and being human, like we all are, he has his pecadilloes.............big, damn, deal!
I bitch about prices a lot, especially when you're paying top dollar for trashy airport food because you're stuck with no options. IT IS DISGUSTING
He stripped it down - no live band, no pyrotechnics and fakery.
Just pure facts, a whole lotta soul and a very compelling performance.
Harry Shearer is a rock and roll genius.
Yes, and the movies he's done with Christopher Guest are all in my dvd library. A Mighty Wind is one of my favorites, although Best In Show is right up there too as far as comic spoofs go.
Harry should have also pointed out that before 9/11, both Condi Rice and Colin Powell stated that Iraq had no WMD's nor the capabilities to produce them. In early 2001, they both said that the embargo and monitoring of Iraq had made such programs impossible to conduct.
buck foosh

I am hearing that the McCain fund-raiser with Bush has been down-sized from a convention center to a private residence. Just another indication of the uber-rich retreating to gated communities.
...and in related news, Paraguay might not be a safe place for international criminals to retire to on large tracts of land. The new government is making overtures to returning to the international community including abandoning the non-extradition treaty. Oooops, huh, Bush?

what does qualify as pathetic is the so-called Truth that allegedly brought us to this point.
“270 Illegal Immigrants Sent to Prison in Federal Push”, link here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05.....mp;emc=th,
then you will understand why bush and cheney have made this administration and
govt. the most dangerous terrorist group in the world.

C&L, please post this story:

This is what the Tallahassee police did: used possession charges against someone to force them to set up a drug deal, ending in death. In this case, the death was of a 23 year old college graduate who was charged for possessing Marijuana on her person, after a speeding violation, and was forced to be a party to a crack and gun deal.
Ooh, MountainMain23, my day has just become much brighter. Go, Paraguay, Go !
What's the latest news on the DC Madam "suicide"? I mean, surely the two suicide notes are of interest to a curious public, or at least a photo of the fateful shed.
He stripped it down - no live band, no pyrotechnics and fakery.
Just pure facts, a whole lotta soul and a very compelling performance.

Steve @ 12:
I don't know about that. I think it sounds very good. As an added bonus it irritates the liars and those who believe the lies. Damned good side effects, don't you agree? :)
This Memorial Day would be a good time to push for an Iraq Occupation Memorial on the National Mall. My suggestion would be a giant granite wall inscribed with every lie used to justify the invasion and ongoing occupation of Iraq. Half of it could be left blank, and filled out as we go along. Here is one that will be used in 2010, "Saddam's regime was on the verge of authorizing gay marriage."

Sickening.
Edwin Hussein the Appeaser @ 51:
The "simmering discontent" is an understatment. Some people in the world have hated us for a long time. We tried to stay out of WWII until we were hit by suicide bombers.

i am not a supporter of illegal immigrants, but this is absurd...they have been convicted of using false documentation....but it seems those documents were procurred by the owners and their operatives
it is the corporatists who are the true criminals...not the illegals...who should be shipped back immediatly to their respective countries
So uh, where is the Libertarian Party Debate thread? Heh. It's live on C-Span right now and Gravel wiping the floor with 'em.

What's being deleted? And why is there nothing on C&L about Hillary's blunder yesterday? Is that what's being deleted?
"plunge" not "plunger".
Rant off, I guess.
Someone may wish to cast a glance in the mirror when they talk about griping and shittiness-subjecting. Or start their own freakin' blog, where they can dispense their wisdom to their cousin in Vermont.
Andy K Jong Il @ 79:
aw fook that getting "shrill about it" bullshite, and fook that LIE about whiners...
the clintonistas are the biggest and they DESERVE mcCRAZY-GRAMPY's arms...
quit making excuses for bad behavior... we've had quite enough!
Actually I meant they were pursuing weapons ten plus years ago, not in 2003.
katy @ 82:
On their platforms, I had both Obama and Clinton one rung up the ladder from Bankruptcy Bill Biden. They both suckle the corporate teat. I had every other Dem candidate ranked above 'em. I'm pretty neutral. As far as their diehard fans go, one side has been as bad as the other, in different ways, the only difference being that the Obama crowd has a more vocal presence in the prog-o-sphere.
But, hey. you just keep on pushin' the other guys outta the way. But don't complain when McCain is making the Supreme Court appointments.
Otay @ 81:
Yeah, 'cause I'm the guy who's been comin' here for 4 years and calling every person with a slightly divergent opinion a troll. And I'm the one DEMANDING that Amato posts exactly what I want to see.
When I'm that guy, I'll start my own.
Andy K Jong Il @ 85:
Here it is!
Steve @ 48:
Even then though, the world viewed America with a healthy balance of respect and suspicion.

hello @ 30:
Yes, and the movies he's done with Christopher Guest are all in my dvd library. A Mighty Wind is one of my favorites, although Best In Show is right up there too as far as comic spoofs go.
Harry should have also pointed out that before 9/11, both Condi Rice and Colin Powell stated that Iraq had no WMD's nor the capabilities to produce them. In early 2001, they both said that the embargo and monitoring of Iraq had made such programs impossible to conduct.
Gore Vidal said as much 2 weeks ago. I'm not advocating anything but the death penalty for mass murder. Strike it if you want.
