He's now on weeknites at 7! Dobbs and the know-nothings, jingoist, nativists are masquerading again as populist patriots. And as we sink further into stagnation and recession this year and next, scapegoating immigrants will become bigtime denial for Democrats and Republicans alike. They love to attack free trade agreements, too, rather than supporting investment in education, technology, and infrastructure -- the ONLY cures for declining real wages at home. These "fair" trade rationalizations for protectionism are the reason Detroit will soon be backrupt; unions and management colluded for decades to ignore technology and consumer tastes. Ostrich mentality doesn't make our problems go away. Unskilled, uneducated natives from states like Kentucky or West Virginia, and all the men drawing lifetime disability aren't making this country work. We're forced to increasingly live off immigrants and high tech outsourced labor. The world doesn't owe us a living, and nobody will mourn our decline from global prominence.

Free trade, fair trade are different. If there was fair trade, they wouldn't be coming across the borders.

Actually looking at those pics from the first link of the Rolling Stone article made me realize it is only a Police State if the people allow it to be a plice state. Do you really think that the 15 sec it takes someone to fuck with these cameras http://www.rollingstone.com/photos/gallery/20818544/chinas_allseeing_eye...
will not result in a needed 1/2 days worth of fixing on the state's part. The scal eis phenomenal. If you fuck with one camera, it takes the state an inordinate amount of time to fix the camera. There is no way to maintain that ratio.

What most people don't realize is that we already have a police state.

I kind of agree. I think we over-estimate the power of the federal government in the United States. The reason why I cannot buy into the 9/11 government conspiracy theories is because to believe any of them, you'd have to first assume that the government is competent and organized enough to pull it off. Based on everything they've done since 9/11, even when it would best serve them, I cannot give them that much credit. Hell, we have literally taken over Iraq with the most advanced military in world history, and our corrupt government can't even get their shit together long enough to steal their oil to keep our gas prices low. We have to be the first occupation force in world history where the give-to-steal ratio is like 100-to-1. Don't even get me started on our response to Katrina. And many people many disagree with Mayor Nagan, but he made a LEGIT point that almost 7 years after the fact, there is still be big hole in the ground at the WTC site when any other nation would have rebuilt them exactly how they looked before as soon as possible to make a statement to their enemies.

Our government is filled with too many greedy individuals to ever organize a police state. They may be able to come together under some groups or some administrations to attack certain opponents, but I just don't see how our government can enslave this whole nation even if they tried. Governments that do have the power to enslave their people either own the media companies, energy companies, or real estate companies. At worst, they are 50/50 partners with big business. Our government is owned by big business and big business has no interests other than profits. Governments like China are greedy for power so they do whatever to get it and maintain it. Our politicians are greedy for money and do whatever to get it, even if it means giving up power to other interests.

Climate Bill Week

Just around the Warner, Lieberman-Warner climate bill hitting the Senate floor - http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/5/30/15512/3699
After months of hearings, haggling, and revision, a climate change bill will reach the floor of the Senate this week.
Expect the GOP to shill all day/all night for old, finite, dirty, polluting, destructive greenwashed 'clean coal' and nuclear power
No matter how it all turns out, serious deliberation of climate legislation is itself a sign of progress.
"We have to start the debate, and this is a very good place to start it," said Boxer. "We may well pass a very good bill, we may get derailed. But however far we take it, it's very important to start now. Landmark bills don't pass in a day or a week."

Say Goodbye and Adios "Clean Coal" - http://www.desmogblog.com/goodby-adios-clean-coal-accce
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE GUIDE to debunking the 'clean coal'/Big Coal lies that will be broadcast this week and through November...he's a sample...

According to the American Lung Association, 24,000 people a year die prematurely because of pollution from coal-fired power plants.
Asthma is the leading chronic illness among children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), asthma accounts for 14 million lost days of school missed annually, and asthma is the third-ranking cause of hospitalization among children younger than 15 years of age.
Coal-fired power plants release over 40% of total U.S. CO2 emissions, which contribute to global warming, which will in turn profoundly affect US agriculture.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that the amount of mercury in the atmosphere is estimated to have increased by 200% to 500% since the beginning of the industrial revolution, when coal use skyrocketed. The US Department of Energy (DOE) projects that mercury emissions will continue to rise. This mercury quickly enters the aquatic food chain, transforming into methylmercury which is blamed for a litany of neurological impacts in infants and young children during their most vulnerable periods of brain and nervous system development.
As author Jeff Goodell reveals in his book “Big Coal,” the claim that the U.S. has 200 or 250 years of coal left is “based on old studies that haven't been updated since the '70s. Those studies themselves were based on studies from the '20s and '30s.”
Goodell points out that “we've been mining coal in this country for 150 years -- all the simple, high-quality, easy-to-get stuff is gone. What's left is buried beneath towns and national parks, or places that are difficult, expensive and dangerous to mine.”
US coal production has already peaked. Turning to more coal-fired power plants for our energy will not decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
So, a warning to US television viewers: think before you believe what you see and hear in that ACCCE advertisement. The images are pleasant and happy, but they do not represent the reality of shifting US energy sources to coal-fired power.

Obama, campaigning in Mitchell, S.D., confidently predicted Clinton "is going to be a great asset when we go into November."
"Whatever differences Senator Clinton and I may have, those differences pale in comparison to the other side," he said.
South Dakota and Montana, which hold primaries on Tuesday, are the last Democratic nominating contests. Obama is favored in both states and he goes into them with 2,069 delegates, 47 away from the number now needed to secure the nomination. Clinton has 1,915.5 delegates.

Going Their Own Way in The Mideast - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/30/AR200805...
What happens when a superpower becomes preoccupied by a costly war and loses some of its ability to coerce friends and enemies toward the outcomes it favors? We're seeing a demonstration of that change now in the Middle East, as Arabs and even Israel reckon with the limits of American power -- and begin to cut their own deals.
This independence from American tutelage is arguably one advantage of the new diplomacy: It is grounded in realism among the Middle Eastern nations about their own interests, rather than in wishful thinking about what the United States can accomplish. It reflects, as well, the growing strength of Iran and its radical allies, and the diminished clout of the United States -- and in that sense, it accords with the altered balance of power in the area.

Deniers/'Skeptics'/Extinctionists have no more legs to stand on: Skeptics' Longest, Strongest Argument Kicks the Bucket - http://www.desmogblog.com/skeptics-longest-strongest-argument-kicks-the-...
The humble bucket turns out to be at the bottom of a perplexing anomaly in the climate records for the twentieth century.
Land and ocean temperature measurements show a strange cooling of about 0.3 °C in the global mean temperature in 1945. A US–British team of climate scientists has now found a surprisingly simple explanation for the long-standing conundrum. It turns out that the mysterious drop is due to differences in the way that British and US ships' crews measured the sea surface temperature (SST) in the 1940s.

Scientists Develop Air "Scrubber" Capable of Sucking Up One Ton of CO2 a Day - http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/05/carbon-dioxide-extractor.php
The question then is how to dispose of all that trapped CO2. Lackner and his colleagues have a few ideas, which they outlined in their patent application: use the gas in greenhouses to increase plant growth; or use it to grow algae, which could be used for fertilizer, food or fuel. It looks like we may finally have a serious contender for Richard Branson's $25 million prize.

Scientist Who Coined "Global Warming" Calls for the Deployment of 20 Million Carbon Scrubbers - http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/06/broecker-carbon-scrubber.php
The BBC reports that Broecker, addressing a literary festival in the U.K., said that roughly 20 million scrubbers would be needed to suck up all the carbon dioxide produced in the U.S. A grand total of 60 million would be needed worldwide to trap all carbon emissions; he estimated that the entire scheme would cost $600 billion a year.
The toughest obstacle to getting the plan implemented will be political interference, Broecker said. Bringing China, India and other developing countries onboard will be key to ensuring the scheme's longterm success.
Gee...$600Billion, that's only 1 1/2 years in Iraq....whew...boy....priorties huh????

Fascinating. I wonder if this kind of technology can be used to terraform Mars. (In the long term, of course.) (okay okay, I'm a sci-fi nerd. :-B)

It's your choice to allow emotions about someone you don't even know personally have such a profound effect on your life. The fact I neither personally love or hate Bush is an indication of MY sanity. :)

Watch McSane and McLieberdick speak to the AIPAC Conference now on FOX.

Fox reports the latest Jewish poll has Obama 61%, McSane at 32%.

Watch out Charlton Heston!

One word, Fascism. We are there and what you imagine, has already happened.

We're not quiiiiite there, not yet...we are on the brink though.

Practicality. Instead of obsessing continuously about situations which are completely outside of my direct influence, e.g. what transpires in Washington DC, I focus my energy on 'improving the world' in areas which are much closer to home. ;) And that would include working for the Obama campaign locally after he gets the nomination. :)

Best part - the idiot with the "GET A BRAIN MORANS" sign. Here's a tip for you racist bigots out there. When making a poster board sign with magic markers criticizing other people's intelligence, spell "moron" properly.

Worst part - he votes.

Lou Dobbs talks pretty big about being an independent voter yet all he talks about is Obama and McCain, never any talk or recognition to the serious presidential candidates representing independent parties.

He talks big but it seems that he is nothing but big talk and no guts.
