Nothing like live TV for speaking out.

Kanye wasn't quite correct: George Bush doesn't care about anybody who isn't on his mother's Christmas card list.

In light of what how things were handled, Kanye's words seem to echo truth, don't they?

"george Bush doesn't care about X"

Substitute whatever word you want for X and chances are it's true.

Respectfully Kanye, President Smirky Ghoul doesn't give a shit about ANYBODY.

Mike Myers face is classic.

George Bush don't care about POOR people, black or any other color!

This bunch makes it perfectly clear what D.C. stands for.

Don't Care!

Impeach, try, convict, put them all in prison and throw away the keys. Now!

So I wonder how Obama's weekend was. Seems the Bilderberg group had a weekend meeting in Northern Virginia...hmm didnt Hillary and Obama meet in Northern Virginia too this weekend?

So strange how the media isn't talking about their weekend activity.

An apposite reminder of why we should all be in this together.

Ah the memories...This was the first video that I recall visiting C&L over.

Thanks Kanye. And my condolences on the loss of your mom.

And have as good a day as is possible.

One of the great clips of all time!

Another is Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondent's Dinner:

Funny you should bring up Kanye, as George Bush has moved on from not caring to completely ignoring black people. The Pentagon tried to dispose
of evidence used against it in torture cases. OPEC's not interested in pumping more oil. Corporations are forced to give it away to get more clients. And a gay Episcopal bishop gets hitched in NH.

Also, we haven't learned a thing.

President Smirky Ghoul ... hehe. And happy b'day to Kanye, too.

[Deleted-Sitemonitor]

That was the first night that we could say that the Bush presidency was slowly in decline. That was either just before or just after Olbermann's first special comment criticizing Bush, Fema, and Chertoff.

Amazingly he was right. Go Kanye!

Mike Meyers and Chris Tucker coulda shoulda spoke out to.

Happy birthday Kanye. Keep bringing the truth, even if it flusters polite white Canadian comedians!

chris @ 15:

Imagine that..
[Yes. Imagine that. Flame baiting lies deleted to save me some work-Sitemonitor]

George Bushs' kind of people in his own words are the "haves and the have mores". I do not believe George Bush is raceist. He hates poor people and middle class people no matter what color. The only color he sees is green.

BG, you rock. Awesome.

Smirky ghoul......that's an apt description of GWB's darkness. Bugliosi compares him to Charles Manson. Clinically GWB is a sociopath. The entire Bush dynasty is mentally ill.

Kanye Was Right!!

War bill helps Iraqis, may ignore Katrina victims

I miss New Orleans.
Happy B Day, Kanye.

Maliki lies to Iran for Bush.

Bush and the republicans didn't care about helping. They immediately started pointing fingers at democrats. They called it a blame game. Only to republicans would people's lives be a game.

Brilliant! I needed to laugh!

Smirky Ghoul's resemblance to Ted Bundy has always creeped me out big-time. You are correct, Comrade Rou, the entire Bush family are sick bastards ... dark, evil and twisted.

Because this is an open thread. I want to bring up a point I heard Richard Clarke make on KO's show. Perhaps you heard it as well. Clarke aptly stated that society should not allow Bushco continue to profit, after the current Bush term is over, as a benefit of having served in a Presidential administration (and that includes the idiot son, W). Society can not pretend that nothing immoral or wrong did not happen. As Americans we can't ignore what was done in our name. War crimes, suspension of civil liberties, torture, you name it were done based on a lie. We can't allow it to stand, and if we do, we, as a society are nearly as culpable as those who committed those crimes against this country. Clarke recommends that there be a "reconciliation commission which would allow those who perpetrated these crimes to ask for forgiveness, and if they do ask, they would be allowed to participate in society (Personally, I think the whole lot of them should go to jail, but I know that won't happen). If they don't admit their transgressions, then they we as a society are duty bound to try ( I don't know if that is the correct spelling) them.

As I see it, those responsible for these crimes against the world, America and the Constitution should at the very least go the same route as OJ Simpson. Any thoughts?

I have long said that these people should be stripped of their wealth. No matter where it came from. They owe the world. They should not be allowed to be comfortable in any way.

I wonder why Bush is even still in office.

He is a proven war criminal, he admittedly broke the rules of the Geneva Convention by authorizing torture, he flat out lied our country into war, his close personal family friends in the Oil industry are currently raping us monetarily, all of these are facts.

Why is nothing being done?

What can we do, any suggestions?

http://www.moillusions.com/2006/12/george-bush-and-ted-bundy-twins.html

Truly creepy pics of Bush and Ted Bundy. Thanks calgarylady. I'll probably have a nightmare tonight.

We are surrounded by terrorists. Terrorist Fist Jabs: Terrorists Are Everywhere!

We should really prosecute these criminals, but if that isn't politically tenable then we should use truth and reconciliation. Imagine if Gerald Ford hadn't pardoned Richard Nixon and his vile conduct had been completely exposed-- we wouldn't have all these shameless and unreconstructed Nixonian thugs that litter government.

Okay, everybody, let's all get ready to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies! In his own words, it's Gone InSane!

LeftofLeft@5 says: "Respectfully Kanye, President Smirky Ghoul doesn’t give a shit about ANYBODY."

True enough. But like Chris Rock says, when they had that big fire in southern california, chimpy mcflightsuit was down there in a FLASH using the water from Katrina to put out the flames. Lot of rich white people in that area, ya know.

that was great! I love the looks on Mike Myer's and Chris Rocks faces... priceless. I agree with above comments, George Bush wants to ruin everything possible, it its not that he doesn't care, it is that he is so wrong all the time that he comes close to EVIL.

it's not like he's flipping a coin, and 50% or the time doing shit right, it is always wrong

I don't think anything was done because of the brilliant (said not as a positive affirmation) way that the Republicans played the fear card. However, people have started to realize they were "played" by Bushco. For many it is easier to ignore their mistakes and that is why there has not been a groundswell of anger and demands for accountability.

I think the best we can do is to follow Richard Clarke's advice that I wrote about up thread. It may not be commensurate with the crime, and I think society should treat them the way Alberto Gonzolez is being treated.

Dear, dear, Kanye West,

Happy Birthday and many more. You are one of my personal heroes and I want to thank you for providing one of the most wonderful and honest pieces of journalism to air on Corporate Media in the entire last seven years.

Respectfully yours, . . . .

I agree that Bush doesn't care about anybody. But I am glad that someone had to say it. Katrina was a travesty. I miss New Orleans. And, I am very saddened to what happened to the people there in the Gulf Coast (including those affected by Rita). The deaths make me sad. And it still angers me regarding the federal government's response to the disaster.

There are folks who knock Kanye West for what he said, but I believe that if they watched what went down during those days they'd eat their words.

Happy Birthday, Kanye. Thank you for your courage at that one moment to open the world's eyes.

Isn't that the truth

Mike Myers was probably thinking if he stood still enough no one would notice him.

If every democrat would just convert one rebulican friend soon the government would love everyone.

McCain was eating birthday cake with George W. Bush during the Katrina/Bush Administration Catastrophe. He failed to mention that during his "Night of the Living Dead" speech he gave in Louisianna last week.

When Kanye West said George Bush doesn't care about Black people. I thought I saw Myers shit in his pants.

NishNish @ 6:

No way, the best part is the half a second you get to see Chris Tucker with his eyes totally wide and his jaw dropped open. He recovers well, but you can tell that there's about half a second where he's completely stunned.

Mike Myers, meanwhile, just does a double take, which is funny, but Tucker's look of complete astonishment is what I always think of when I see this clip.

It almost looked like Mike Myers was about to say something. I think it was "affirmative, Kanye."

KKKarl masterminded the decision to do nothing with the objective being that by shipping 280,000 black (about 98% of whom were Dem) voters out of NOLa and out of La, with no return trip in the bargain, that they would instantly create a majority repug city and state. Nagin, who had switched to Dem from Repug, then switched back to repug.

I've never forgotten Myers' face in that clip, either. I admire Kanye for having the guts to say the truth and be damned with the consequences. Like when that gulf coast resident told Cheney to go eff himself when he showed up for his little vice-presidential photo-op.

Bravo to the true heroes like Kanye and the common people for having the courage to stand up to these phony, criminal liars.

In all fairness to Mike Myers he was trying to raise some money to help those in desperate need (did any one of them get any?) in the meantime the rest of us were going nuts over the lack of action and Kanye West said what was on a lot of people's minds. Mike was not ready for it and his first thought must have been, "Will this piss people off and keep them from helping?"

I remember that day when I saw Kanye's words. I think he said what a lot of folks were thinking and feeling during that time.

And to think of it, Bush wasn't even embarrassed by what his mother said (about the folks in the Astrodome in Houston) as well as his own response to this disaster by doing fly-overs (except for Trent Lott to receive FEMA money before anyone else.).

And yes, I love Kanye's music as well. :)

The other thing I've been wondering was about this P.U.M.A. thing that a lot of Hill's folks have been sporting.

Well, now I've found out:

But even as Mrs Clinton was preparing to formally concede the race yesterday and throw her weight behind her former rival, various coalitions of her most loyal supporters were considering ways to still, somehow, back her – no matter the consequence in November.

“In the hearts of her ardent supporters, we know she’s the best one this time or 2012, which is why we’re willing to put [Senator John] McCain in for four years and [then] have another go at it,” said Thuc Nguyen, 32, a graduate student at the University of California who is part of a burgeoning group known as PUMA, which stands for Party Unity My A—.

[...]

Pam Hamilton, a Clinton supporter who works in sales in Medford, Oregon, and who started a website called ClintonDems, said a lot of women are feeling the four words about party unity that gave PUMA its acronym. She, and others, talk of Mr Obama in terms of inexperience and lack of substance, while complaining of unfair treatment of Mrs Clinton, both by the Democratic National Committee and by the media.

Ms Hamilton suggested she was not sure whom she will vote for – “My dream is that somehow Hillary gets on the ticket” – or whether she will even vote. But the longer she talked, the more it seemed she already had made up her mind. “With neither of them really appealing to my sensibilities, I have to look at who’s more experienced and who do I feel most comfort with, and it’s John McCain,” she said. “We know him.”

It is unclear what effect the PUMA crowd will have in November, if any, but its ranks are mobilising. Ms Nguyen helped launch last week what she described as the group’s official website, gopumaparty.com, although there are several ad hoc offshoots.

Well, well, well. How can we have party unity with this going on? Just asking.

But we have to work on the underlying social problems in the Dem party as well. That needs to be addressed because the face of the Dem Party is changing. And we need to have people who really want the party to get better.

By trying to tar all of them with the same brush and perpetuating the conflict you are being every bit as unhelpful as they are. The war is over. Let it rest.

But we have to work on the underlying social problems in the Dem party as well. That needs to be addressed because the face of the Dem Party is changing. And we need to have people who really want the party to get better.

The con-servative climate change problem, An acknowledge-and-do-nothing strategy is little better than denialism - http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/6/6/172553/8794
"It seems to me that con-servatives have learned nothing politically from the climate change debate to date. Facts on the ground are forcing them to abandon the denialist position, and facts on the ground will ultimately force them to abandon the do-nothing position. Rather than get ahead of the curve and offer a reasonable critique of the liberal approach, they've opted to stick their fingers in their ears and hope for the best. That's bad policy, and it's bad politics."

We Spend That Before Breakfast, Mere $45 trillion needed to tackle climate change, says IEA - http://www.grist.org/news/2008/06/06/clean_trillion/
That's about 1.1 percent of the world's average annual gross domestic product through 2050; more overwhelmingly, it's also about three times the size of the current U.S. economy.
That's a bargain considering the alternative...waiting to act will cost the world between 15-20% of GDP (which would come out to 675-900 trillion dollars...hmm...tough call!)

Peak Oil Update: Holding onto what's golden, Saudi Arabia and oil - http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/6/6/141459/0656
One of the starkest warnings came in a February report commissioned by the United States Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory. "Because oil prices have been relatively high for the past decade, oil companies have conducted extensive exploration over that period, but their results have been disappointing," stated the report.
The message he delivered was clear: the world is heading for an oil shortage. His warning is quite different from the calming speeches that Naimi and other Saudis, along with senior American officials, deliver on an almost daily basis.

Less obviously, oil producers deplete their reserves every time they pump out a barrel of oil. This means that merely to maintain their reserve base, they have to replace the oil they extract from declining fields. It's the geological equivalent of running to stay in place.
In other words, if demand and depletion patterns continue, every year the world will need to open enough fields or wells to pump an additional six to eight million barrels a day -- at least two million new barrels a day to meet the rising demand and at least four million to compensate for the declining production of existing fields. "That's like a whole new Saudi Arabia every couple of years," Husseini said. "It can't be done indefinitely. It's not sustainable."
An Oil-based/Old Energy economy is doomed....

Immediately prior to, during and after Hurricane Katrina, the White House responses to this tragedy were being orchestrated by Karl Rove. A man who only has political campaign experience was taking on the tasks of response to national emergency. And his responses were solely political.
As a result, promised buses were never sent, restoration was only done when a camera was nearby, and blame was stuck on democratic governor Kathleen Blanco. And thousands were left to die. Mississippi and Alabama, both with republican governors, were given immediate response. A new book on Rove ("Machiavelli's Shadow: the Rise and Fall of Karl Rove") covers this story in detail.

"Interestingly, Pharaon was also an investor in President George W. Bush's first business venture, Arbusto Energy."
To call that information "interesting" is to put it rather mildly. Can you imagine the hoo-hah that would erupt in the American trad media if a Democrat such as Barack Obama, say, were connected by even two degrees of separation to an international crook like Pharaon?
And yet Pharaon was a Harvard classmate of Bush's and a key investor in Arbusto/Harken Energy. He has a notoriously unsavory record. During the Carter administration he was involved in the disgrace of Bert Lance, and then a dozen years later in another banking scandal, the collapse of the shady BCCI due to massive fraud that cost the bank's clients billions of dollars.
In the US, he was the second largest shareholder in CenTrust when it went belly up. The Federal Reserve then barred Pharaon from doing business in the US, and the FBI indicted him. Pharaon has been a fugitive ever since.

Make No Mistake: McCain's a Neocon - http://www.consortiumnews.com/2008/060808.html
Since clinching the Republican presidential nomination, John McCain has sought to hide the forest of his neoconservative alignment with George W. Bush amid the trees of details, such as stressing differences over military tactics used in Iraq.
But the larger reality should be clear: McCain is a hard-line neoconservative who buys into Bush’s “preemptive war” theories abroad and his concept of an all-powerful “unitary executive” at home.
This neocon vision also holds that the President – on his own authority – could take the nation to war anywhere in the world for whatever reason.
In essence, the United States would cease to be a democratic Republic with citizens guaranteed fundamental liberties and with an Executive possessing limited authority constrained by the Legislature. All meaningful power would be invested in the President as a modern-day monarch.
But there should be no doubt that a McCain victory would give the neocons another four-year lease on the White House. And, after those four years, there might be no feasible way back for the great American Republic.
